'The Vampire Diaries' Season 3, Episode 7 Recap

by Crystal Bell, posted Oct 28th 2011 12:01AM
['The Vampire Diaries' -- 'Ghost World']

I wasn't exactly thrilled by Mason's return to Mystic Falls in 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' -- especially because I knew he was back to seek revenge on Damon -- but OMG I love Lexi. Seriously, she's probably one of my favorite characters in 'TVD' history, even though she's only really been in a handful of episodes. And after seeing the way she smashed Stefan's head into the window of a car, how could you not love her?!

All of the girls in Mystic Falls have some serious problems. Their boyfriends are either dead, undead, in love with dead girls or are crazy rippers. So it's nice to have a strong, badass female character in the mix -- because the status of Katherine's life is still TBD at the moment.

'The Vampire Diaries' Season 3, Episode 6 Recap (VIDEO)

['The Vampire Diaries' -- 'Smells Like Teen Spirit']

After last week's amazing episode, I wasn't sure that the 'The Vampire Diaries' writers could possibly top it -- but they came pretty close with 'Smells Like Teen Spirit.' Elena stakes Stefan, Katherine possibly bites the dust (really!), Rebekah stakes Damon and Vicki comes back from the dead to try and kill Elena. There was so much possible near-death in this episode that I thought one of our main three would finally bite the big one, but alas, our love triangle remains -- unlike Katherine, who may very well be dead (like, dead dead.)

Perhaps Katherine should of thought twice before awakening Michael, the "badass vampire vampire hunter" because as it turned out, she became his midnight snack. Does this mean the end of Katherine? I hope not because let's face it, 150-year-old Nina Dobrev is so much more interesting than 18-year-old Nina Dobrev.

'The Vampire Diaries' Season 3, Episode 3 Recap

Stefan, Vampire Diaries['The Vampire Diaries' - 'The End of the Affair']

I'm not one to pick favorites. Some people can name their top five favorite movies/songs/shows/etc. upon request, and some are doomed to a life of indecision. I'm one of the latter -- honestly, choosing five episodes of 'The Vampire Diaries' for our "Essential Episodes" series took about two weeks. But there is one thing I'm absolutely certain of: 'The End of the Affair' is my number one favorite 'TVD' episode of all time.

Alternately heartbreaking, hilarious, beautiful, engrossing and 100 percent enjoyable -- what more could you ask for in a high-school-set teen drama?

Ian Somerhalder Talks 'Vampire Diaries' Season 3: Drama, Nudity & More

by Maggie Furlong, posted Sep 14th 2011 7:00PM
Ian Somerhalder, 'The Vampire Diaries'After last season's huge cliffhanger finale -- hell, cliffhanger season -- we're now faced with some big changes over at 'The Vampire Diaries.' Stefan is bad, Damon is good ... oh, this is gonna be fun.

I caught up with star Ian Somerhalder to talk all about Damon's latest dilemma: Having to take care of the girl he loves but can never have.

He also teased some more Damon drama in Season 3 (premieres Thurs., Sept. 15, 8PM ET on The CW), including how "pissed off" he is that his brother Stefan has taken off with that "prick" Klaus, and why Damon's annoyed with the idea of spending another three-quarters of a century in Mystic Falls.

Then we dished about the status of the Damon-Alaric bromance, all the nude scenes he's had this season and how, personally, he's enjoying the simple pleasures in life with his on-screen temptress and off-screen girlfriend Nina Dobrev.

Catch Up With 'The Vampire Diaries': 5 Essential Episodes

by Jean Bentley, posted Aug 30th 2011 2:15PM
So you've heard the buzz, your interest is tickled and you're ready to take the plunge into a new show. What's that? You don't have time to catch up on multiple seasons?

Have no fear, AOL TV is here. We've been spotlighting five episodes from some of the best scripted comedies and dramas on TV that you need to see before jumping into the new season this fall.

Up now? 'The Vampire Diaries.'

The Vampire Diaries
In the grand tradition of high school shows before it (including co-creator Kevin Williamson's own 'Dawson's Creek'), 'The Vampire Diaries' features one epic love triangle. Our 17-year-old heroine Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) and her troubled little brother Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) live in Mystic Falls, Virginia with their Aunt Jenna (Sara Canning) after the tragic death of their parents. As is wont to happen on The CW, Elena falls for the heartthrob new kid in town, Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley). One problem -- he's a vampire (and has been stuck at 17 years old since 1864), and so is his evil older brother, Damon (Ian Somerhalder).

Comic-Con Q&A: The 'Vampire Diaries' Cast On Season 3 Lip-Locking & More (VIDEO)

by Laura Prudom, posted Jul 24th 2011 2:00AM
Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, Paul WesleyThe cast of 'The Vampire Diaries' knows how to keep a secret -- in fact, we're pretty sure their jobs depend on their ability to do so.

Lucky for fans who love surprises, but unlucky for reporters on the Comic-Con press line for the hit CW show, their lips were shut tighter than the entrance to Katherine's tomb.

Still, we managed to unearth a few hints about what we can expect from Season 3, including what Stefan's new alliance with Klaus might mean for his future with Elena ("He's trying to hold on as much as he can to the humanity that's left inside of him," Paul Wesley said) and what more we might learn about Klaus ("Maybe see a little more vulnerability to him, a little more of a human side," Joseph Morgan ventured. "... if he has such a thing.")

And we also got some insight into what Damon and Elena's mindsets will be when the show returns: "Damon's pissed," Ian Somerhalder said matter-of-factly. And about that kiss? "I'm never gonna hear the end of this one, am I?," laughed Nina Dobrev.

One more thing about that kiss: Somerhalder was wondering if we were all watching the same "steamy, passionate kiss" in the finale that he was. From his vantage point, there was nothing sexy about it.

Doesn't matter -- we hear there's plenty more lip-locking to come in the season premiere. Watch the video for more scoop.

'The Vampire Diaries' Cast Talks Season 3 & Strip Clubs

by Jean Bentley, posted May 25th 2011 12:00PM
The Vampire DiariesSince filming on season 3 of 'The Vampire Diaries' is still months away, when AOL TV caught up with the cast at The CW upfront red carpet yesterday none of the stars had any real clue about what their characters will be up to come fall.

They did, however, have a few suggestions for when Kevin Williamson, Julie Plec and the rest of the writers finally sit down to brainstorm the season.

"I'd like to see Elena stand on her own two feet and fly solo for a second," Nina Dobrev suggested.

Ian Somerhalder's hopes for Damon were a little less lofty. "I just hope that Damon and Stefan and Klaus can go on a bender or two," he said.

Paul Wesley was into the partying idea: "Get hammered, go to Tijuana, strip clubs, tequila."

'The Vampire Diaries' Cast Talks Klaus & Season 3 Wishes (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Apr 14th 2011 9:00AM
Joseph Morgan as Klaus, 'The Vampire Diaries'Have you heard? Klaus is coming.

Yes, 'Vampire Diaries' fans, I know that's all anyone can talk about these days, but come on -- the guy is an Original. We've witnessed some pretty powerful supernatural stuff on that show, but Klaus' arrival will absolutely be the craziest thing we've seen yet.

We hit the Atlanta set of 'The Vampire Diaries' to catch up with the cast and talk all about the O.G. fanged one's arrival in Mystic Falls. Who's met Klaus so far? And who's gone head-to-head with him? "Actually I've just shot one scene with him so far," Paul Wesley revealed. "It was pretty submissive ... one of us was relatively submissive. [laughs]"

Katerina Graham dished about Bonnie's inevitable showdown with Klaus: "She's the one person -- that's been revealed -- that can stop him. ... So I don't think she's expecting to just fly to Hawaii and forget about him for a while."

The 'Vampire Diaries' Cast Talks Twitter & Who Convinced Paul Wesley to Tweet (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Apr 5th 2011 10:00AM
'The Vampire Diaries' finally returns this week (Thurs., April 7, 8PM ET on The CW), but if you're like me, you've been keeping up with the cast on Twitter over this way too long hiatus.

Since there's been little news lately about what's coming next -- save the arrival of Klaus, who'll be played by Joseph Morgan -- it was huge news when Stefan Salvatore himself, Paul Wesley, finally joined Twitter after years of refusing.

The Vampire Diaries

We hit the 'Vampire Diaries' set in Atlanta to catch up with Paul and costars Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, Candice Accola, Zach Roerig, Kat Graham, Steven McQueen, Matt Davis and Sara Canning. They all opened up about who they follow on Twitter and decided who gets credit for finally getting Paul to tweet.

'The Vampire Diaries' Star Ian Somerhalder on Playing the Bad Boy With a Conscience

by Laura Prudom, posted Feb 9th 2011 3:00PM
Ian SomerhalderIt's hard to resist a bad boy (especially one with the power of mind compulsion), and as tall, dark and deadly Damon Salvatore on the CW's 'The Vampire Diaries,' Ian Somerhalder may be the baddest boy on prime time right now.

But while Damon is busy spilling blood, raising hell and getting cozy in the bathtub with a hapless reporter, his off-screen alter ego is busy trying to change the world through his newly unveiled charity: the Ian Somerhalder Foundation.

TV Squad caught up with the charming 'Lost' alum to talk about the challenges of playing a vampire who is starting to develop some decidedly icky human emotions, the relationships he's built on set and what the Ian Somerhalder Foundation is doing to empower the world's youth to help make a difference where change is needed most.

Warning: Spoilers ahead.

Ian Somerhalder Talks Nina Dobrev, Bromance & 'The Vampire Diaries' Steamy Fall Finale (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Dec 8th 2010 11:00AM
Ian Somerhalder, 'The Vampire Diaries'Today is Ian Somerhalder's birthday, and I have a present for all of his loyal fans: a sit-down with Damon Salvatore himself to talk all about this week's big 'Vampire Diaries' fall finale (Thurs., Dec. 9, 8PM ET on The CW).

Ian opens up about bromance and being jealous of Alaric's new love, his own show romances and the power of his lovely co-star Nina Dobrev. He also dishes about Damon taking advantage of alone time with Elena while Stefan is stuck in the cave with Katherine. And if you saw this week's preview, you know there was plenty of seducing and smooching in the cave -- was it clever editing, or will things really get that steamy?

And you won't want to miss his tease of Original vampire Klaus' arrival, and what has to happen to survive. Plus, he previews the fall finale's big cliffhangers -- this is 'TVD,' people; there are always cliffhangers -- including a new possible foe in the form of Tyler Lockwood's werewolf self. If that doesn't make you howl at the moon in celebration, I don't know what will.

Ian Somerhalder Accidentally Reveals His L.A. Address on 'Kimmel' (VIDEO)

Ian Somerhalder Gives Address on 'Kimmel Live'There are rabid 'Lost' fans -- and then there are 'Vampire Diaries' fans. For Ian Somerhalder, the latter group is far bigger, louder and higher. On 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (weeknights, 12AM ET on ABC), he demonstrated with some footage of his screaming groupies at a convention.

He then launched into a story about the hotel where he stays when in Los Angeles, mentioning the establishment by name. "Is it good to give out your address on television?" asked the host. The actor said, "Oh, wait! Why'd I just-- oh, my God! ... That was stupid!"

"We've already bleeped it out," Kimmel assured him. "But I want you guys to promise not to go there," he said to the studio audience, smirking. "Might wanta switch to another hotel," he advised Somerhalder.

I also have some outtakes from my 'Vampire Diaries' chat with the hilarious Ian Somerhalder (read the full interview here). He admits he's getting teased for being named "Sexiest Beast" by EW, but which sexy beast did boss man Kevin Williamson want to vote for instead? I love a good fanged fight. Then I catch up with Oprah's go-to guy Nate Berkus to hear about his new show and a surprise celebrity guest who's made headlines recently.

Ian Somerhalder Talks Bromance, Romance & Season 2 of 'The Vampire Diaries'

by Maggie Furlong, posted Sep 9th 2010 10:00AM
Ian Somerhalder, 'The Vampire Diaries''The Vampire Diaries' could easily have been written off as just another CW teen show, but the sexiness of the cast instantly took it to extremely watchable status. Alongside Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley, star Ian Somerhalder is responsible for a third of that sex appeal ... at least.

After a first season of some high highs (tricking his way into his brother's relationship with Elena) and very low lows (getting duped by the vampire who turned him), Somerhalder's bad boy bloodsucker Damon Salvatore is in a very dark place in Season 2.

I caught up with Somerhalder to hear all about playing vulnerable, which of his castmates he has a blast shooting with, who Damon might find "useful" this season and the pretty racy scene fans have been waiting for.

Bonus: He talks around it a bit, but I got him to choose whether Damon is on Team Katherine or Team Elena. Whose side are you on?

EXCLUSIVE! CW Stars Sophia Bush and Misha Collins Give Back

by Laura Prudom, posted Aug 31st 2010 10:45AM
Sophia BushEveryone loves an underdog -- and in terms of ratings, few can deny that The CW often seems like a scrappy featherweight trapped in the primetime ring with four heavy-hitters.

But when it comes to making a difference in the lives of fans and the public at large, (even those who are too impoverished to own a television), it seems as though the CW network might just be the undisputed heavyweight champion. (We're done with the boxing metaphors now, we promise.)

Whether it's raising money for the clean-up in the Gulf following BP's catastrophic oil spill, finding homes for abandoned dogs, aiding in the rebuilding of New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina or helping orphans in Haiti, the passion and dedication of the CW's stars is tireless and undeniably inspiring.

Over the weekend, TV Squad caught up with Sophia Bush of 'One Tree Hill' and 'Supernatural' star Misha Collins to discuss their latest charitable projects and give advice to anyone who wants to help change the world, one random act of kindness at a time.
