'The Walking Dead' Gets Series Pick-Up

by Brad Trechak, posted Mar 30th 2010 12:29PM
The Walking Dead'The Walking Dead' will be getting a full season of episodes on AMC and not just the pilot that was we mentioned a couple of months ago . The show is about a post-apocalyptic zombie world and follows a set of survivors trying to find a safe place to live. It's based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman.

The comic itself is pretty awesome and lends itself to television well; it's pretty much about the relationships between the survivors in a world where they can be killed or turned into zombies at any minute. Actually in the comic everybody who dies automatically becomes a zombie so if the television show follows the comic death and zombification will be much the same thing.

You know the series will be quality as well since Frank 'Shawshank Redemption' Darabont is writing and directing the pilot. I'm convinced that the fourth 'Indiana Jones' film would have been much better if they used his version of the script.

Todd McFarlane will be bringing back animated Spawn?

by Brad Trechak, posted Aug 30th 2009 8:46AM
SpawnAccording to its creator Todd McFarlane (via his Twitter account), an animated version of his comic book anti-hero Spawn will be returning to the airwaves in 2010. Spawn last had an animated version on HBO in 1997 (and it had adult content such as nudity, profanity and violence to boot).

Honestly, other than a few cult followers of the comic book, has anybody even heard of Spawn anymore? The character pretty much jumped out of the mainstream once the experiment that was Image Comics failed. Yes, I know Image is still around and the creators are still involved with it, but it was intended as an experiment to see if comic book creators could run a business as a collective. Most of the founders spun off into their own companies and it failed.

Spawn is too adult of a character to ever reach the mainstream anyway. It can't really be marketed to children. If the animated series does return (or get a reboot), it would be best served on Adult Swim (or one of the pay channels that would let it go uncensored).

The Walking DeadNow that the world's collective pre-teen subconscious has been thoroughly distracted by vampires with glittering skin or charming Southern accents, AMC is sneakily bringing back some zombie love. According to Variety, the comic series created by writer Robert Kirkman and illustrator Tony Moore, The Walking Dead, is coming to AMC. Bonus: Frank Darabont will be writing and directing.

It's about time! Let's give the blood suckers a break and revisit some good ol' brain eaters, shall we?
