Imagine's Howard, Grazer Make 'Great Escape' to Reality TV
by Harley W. Lond, posted Apr 19th 2010 11:45PM
More high-profile Hollywood A-listers are jumping on the reality bandwagon. Just last week director Michael Bay announced he was working on a reality series called 'One Way Out,' and now Ron Howard and Brian Grazer are mounting an action-adventure reality show for TNT.Called 'The Great Escape,' the series will challenge contestants to escape from big-screen-inspired situations. According to The Hollywood Reporter, each week teams of ordinary people will be dropped off, blindfolded, in different extreme environments -- lost in the desert, trapped in the mountains, locked in a prison or marooned on an island -- and they'll have to rely on their everyday skills and experiences to escape and win cash rewards.
Remake of Gene Roddenberry's The Questor Tapes in the works
by Brad Trechak, posted Jan 24th 2010 11:30AM
Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry is still having his concepts used for television series. In this case it's not so much a creation as a remake. Imagine Entertainment is working with his son Rod Roddenberry to make The Questor Tapes, a series he created in 1974 which made it to the television pilot phase. The series is about an android named Questor that is created with incomplete memory tapes. It then searches the world for its creator and purpose. A lot of the concept went into the Star Trek: the Next Generation character of Data. Maybe they could get Brent Spiner to play Questor, or would that be typecasting? I recall reading ages ago that Roddenberry originally wanted Leonard Nimoy to play Questor.
Tim Minear, who was behind The X-Files and much Joss Whedon stuff, is being pursued to produce the series. What do you think? Is it another Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda? Who should play Questor?
NBC greenlights a remake of a remake of Parenthood
by Danny Gallagher, posted Jan 29th 2009 9:01AM
If you're are sick of your TV remaking shows and movies every season, don't fret. Your TV has found a solution: remaking the stuff they've already remade. NBC has given the big ol' emerald glo-stick to a remake of the movie Parenthood, a movie that they have already turned into a show.
The show is being produced by Imagine Entertainment, the Ron Howard company that produced and made the original movie. The network has asked for a pilot and former Friday Night Lights writer-executive producer Jason Katims will breathe life into it.
