Iron Chef America

Kelly Ripa and Kathy Griffin Eat Candy-Laced Pate on 'Iron Chef America' (VIDEO)

by Catherine Lawson, posted Oct 24th 2011 8:40AM
Iron Chef: AmericaThis week on 'Iron Chef America' (Sun., 10PM ET on FOOD) Chef Marc Forgione took on 'Top Chef' fan favorite Lee Anne Wong in Battle Halloween.

Kathy Griffin and Kelly Ripa were given the task of judging a range of dishes all prepared using the secret ingredient: Halloween candy.

We love Chef Wong, but honestly didn't think her duck liver pâté on crostini looked too appetizing: The strawberry hard candy gastrique lent it an unpleasant bloody tinge. Still, given some of the secret ingredients in the past, the judging panel got off lightly.

Ripa joked that adding candy's "a great way to get your kids to eat pâté," while über-dieter Griffin didn't manage to convince us that she really is "a pâté fanatic." Forgione's offerings, however, seemed to fare better with the ladies. Did he take home the title?

Ousted 'Next Iron Chef': 'I Never Wanted to Change My Style'

by Allison Waldman, posted Nov 15th 2010 7:00PM
the_next_iron_chef_logo_food_networkIf you watched last night's penultimate episode of Food Network's 'The Next Iron Chef,' you know that the competition was intense.

In fact, it was such a tight race that it surprising to see which two chefs were sent home. Both made just the slightest missteps in their nearly flawless, high-end, luxury dishes.

The theme of the night was seduction, and the final four were asked to make not only their food sexy, but a cocktail, too. The first challenge was creating a seductive cocktail with a snack food to complement the drink.

Sorry, Snooki: the Obamas Don't Watch 'Jersey Shore'

by Gary Susman, posted Jan 13th 2010 12:00PM
It's been weeks now, and still, President Barack Obama has had nothing to say about two of the greatest threats to American security.

We're speaking, of course, about Snooki and The Situation, from MTV's new series 'Jersey Shore.' Alas, according to First Lady Michelle Obama, it's a show the First Family does not watch. "I've heard about it," Mrs Obama tells People, in an interview all about the Obamas' TV viewing preferences. "Not seen it."

Another battle in the Scripps/Cablevision war

by Brad Trechak, posted Jan 7th 2010 8:29AM
Food NetworkScripps Networks Interactive, the company behind the Food Network and HGTV, has gotten an ally in its war against Cablevision. For those unaware, Cablevision dropped Scripps programming due to a disagreement about fees.

There will be an encore presentation of the Food Network's highly-rated program Super Chef Battle: An Iron Chef America Event on the local networks WPIX-TV in New York and WTXX-TV in Hartford, Connecticut. The HGTV special HGTV Dream Home 2010 Tour will also be appearing on WPIX.

One can only wonder if this is the future of television, in which cable channels make deals with networks for encore broadcasts. It would help the networks find cheap programming and there have already been experiments with cable and networks sharing programs (such as Friday Night Lights).

In the end, Scripps and Cablevision will likely come to an agreement, just as Fox and Time Warner Cable did. Now if only Cablevision would start carrying BBC America to make me happy.

Jennifer Garner is no friend of Ina Garten's

by Bob Sassone, posted Jan 4th 2010 5:04PM
Ina GartenSo Jennifer Garner contacted the people at The Barefoot Contessa, saying she was a big fan and she'd like to be on the show. And they turned her down!

Ina Garten says that she won't have the former Alias star on the show because she only has real friends on the show with her. I actually have to admire that. A lot of shows would jump at the chance to have any sort of TV or movie celebrity on, just to get some buzz or ratings or celebrity gravitas. It's refreshing that Garten sees the phoniness behind that and actually has people on the show that she knows. I guess Garner has to get to know her first and then they can make soup together.
