Jennifer Lopez Reflects on Jacob Lusk's Elimination From 'American Idol'On 'Access Hollywood Live' (weekdays, syndicated), Jennifer Lopez offered her perspective on the elimination of Jacob Lusk from 'American Idol' last night. Lopez said Lusk would accomplish "great things" in the future, and she appreciated his composure after being booted from the show.

"With Jacob, I was just, like, 'We're going to miss you. You're a very, very special soul.' Because it's not just about him and his singing. It's about him as a person and I just feel like he's going to go on to do great things," said Lopez.

'American Idol' Top Five Results: Which Contestant Was Eliminated? (VIDEO)

Top Five Elimination, 'American Idol'It's down to the wire now on 'American Idol' (Thu., 8PM ET on FOX). With only five contestants left, each of them had two solo performances last night. For most of them, this proved to be a blessing as they were able to nail at least one of their songs.

Haley Reinhart had a shaky start, according to the judges, with an unreleased Lady Gaga song. But she closed the show with an amazing take on 'The House of the Rising Sun.' Scotty opened strong with 'Gone,' but wasn't as strong on his second number.

James lost himself in the emotions a bit in his second song, which could have hurt or helped him with viewers. Lauren held back a bit on 'Unchained Melody,' while Jacob floundered a lot on 'No Air.' With so many hits and misses, it was anyone's week to lose.

'American Idol' airs Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8PM ET on FOX.

'American Idol' Top 7 Results: Who Was Eliminated? (VIDEO)

'American Idol' resultsLast week, Paul McDonald broke the streak of five consecutive girls sent home on 'American Idol' (Thu., 8PM ET on FOX). With only two remaining in the Top Seven, Jennifer Lopez made no bones about not wanting to see a girl go home this week.

When the show brought out the eliminated contestants last week for an opening performance, the gender bias of the season was painfully obvious, as poor McDonald tried to keep up with the five girls on a girl-power song.

!SPOILER ALERT!

When Ryan Seacrest started whittling down the contestants, the favorites stayed out of the line of fire. Of the seven remaining contestants, only three of them have been in the Bottom Three before. And they made up the Bottom Three this week.

Jacob Lusk Sings Luther Vandross to Honor His Father on 'American Idol' (VIDEO)

Jacob Lusk, 'American Idol'In honoring his father through his song selection this week on 'American Idol' (Wed., 8PM ET on FOX), Jacob Lusk honored Luther Vandross as well. Wednesday night was Vandross' birthday, and so it was with a dual sense of purpose that Lusk took on 'Dance with My Father.'

If you're going to have a technical problem with a song, it's best to have that at the beginning, as Lusk did. He did stop singing momentarily, but picked it right back up as he pulled out his earpiece, and ultimately turned in an emotional and powerful performance.

"It's hard to perform when a song means that much to you," Jennifer Lopez said. "That's one of the tricks to being a performer. But emotionally, it was a beautiful performance."

'American Idol' Results: Top Nine Shocking Elimination (VIDEO)

'American Idol' elimination resultsThe judges saved Casey Abrams a couple of weeks ago, so that option isn't around anymore. That means 'American Idol' (Thu., 8PM ET on FOX) is counting on you to get it right each and every week. But there's been almost no consistency in the Bottom Three this season.

So far we've seen Haley, Stefano, Paul and Casey in the Bottom Three this season among the remaining contestants. And this week continued the trend of seeing some new faces in the bottom. It's harder than ever to predict what the American public is looking for.

But one thing everyone seemed to agree on, was that this week's eliminated contestant should not have been going home so soon.

Jacob Lusk Shows a Softer Side With All That Vocal Power on 'American Idol' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Mar 17th 2011 12:29AM
Jacob Lusk, 'American Idol'Jacob Lusk has given us powerful gospel-sounding performances week after week on 'American Idol' (Wed., 8PM ET on FOX). But this time, he switched it up a little by tackling Heart. 'Alone' is one of their most diverse songs, requiring both the powerhouse vocals we know Lusk can handle, and the more tender moments that he's been holding back on.

In this performance, though, he wrapped the powerful middle parts of the song in beautifully tender moments at the top and the bottom. It was a much-needed showcase of a gentler side to his voice, to let viewers know he's more than the big voice we've seen thus far.

Randy Jackson was thrilled with this side of his voice. "At the end, when you got so tender and you caressed it," he told Lusk. "And you didn't overpower it, it was genius, dude."

'American Idol' airs Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8PM ET on FOX.

'American Idol': Jacob Lusk Wows Judges And Audience With Luther Vandross Classic (VIDEO)

Jacob Lusk, 'American Idol'Steven Tyler has one of the most impressive ranges in the history of modern music. And yet, one performer on 'American Idol' (Tue., 8PM ET on FOX) leaves him in awe. After Jacob Lusk's performance of Luther Vandross' 'A House Is Not a Home,' Tyler was left subdued, but no less enthusiastic, in his praise.

"I'm honored -- honored to be in your presence," he said sincerely. "You make me cry when you sing. I don't know where you get it from but I will bathe in it."

Lusk first wowed the judges and audiences in Hollywood when he belted out a song so powerfully that he was left exhausted and in tears. This performance wasn't nearly so over the top, but it was no less impressive for Lusk's control and passion in both his lower and upper registers.

What did you think of Lusk's performance in this opening round?

'American Idol' airs Wednesdays and Thursdays (and sometimes even Tuesdays) at 8PM ET on FOX.

Jacob Lusk Leaves It All on the 'American Idol' Stage; Blows Everyone Away (VIDEO)

Jacob Lusk, 'American Idol'James Durbin who? Jacob Lusk certainly wasn't intimidated by all the attention Durbin and his range have gotten so far this season on 'American Idol' (Thu., 8PM on FOX). He decided to take his last opportunity in Hollywood Week to show the judges what he was capable.

"He was like, in case you have any doubt," judge Jennifer Lopez said, "Let me just show you something." But Lusk didn't stop there. He showed them absolutely everything he had all wrapped up in 'God Bless the Child.'

It was a stunning performance from a contestant we've barely seen a snippet of thus far this year. He had a brief moment to shine on Group Day, but it was nothing to what he left on the 'Idol' stage here.

'American Idol' airs Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8PM on FOX.
