Though a number of singers have moved from music to television, this list features stars who made it big on the small screen before picking up a microphone, to varying degrees of success.

With the release last year of 'This Is It,' Michael's picture was everywhere, and Jackson revealed to Winfrey that she "literally would turn away" it was so painful. Carrie Ann Inaba Reveals Connection to Janet Jackson (VIDEO)

by Chris Harnick, posted Apr 1st 2010 12:45PM
Janet JacksonJanet Jackson once drove Carrie Ann Inaba to binge eat on nachos. The 'Dancing With the Stars' judge filled in for Kelly Ripa on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated) and took a trip down memory lane with Jackson.

Jackson knew the situation well. It was the late 1990s and she was going on tour, taking four female dancers along, but a young Inaba was not one of them. Jackson had cut her after the audition.

"You cut me and I was devastated," Inaba told Jackson.

But, before you start sending the angry letters to Jackson take note, Inaba later went on tour with Madonna.

by Aimee Deeken, posted Mar 24th 2010 10:30AM
Janet Jackson on 'Late Night'There's a history between Janet Jackson and Roots drummer Questlove, it was revealed on 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon' (weeknights, 12:37AM ET on NBC).

Explains Janet, "Quest gave me a T-shirt."
"Wow, you still have that?" says Questlove.

When Janet admits she loves it and wears it all the time, he gets a little flustered -- and maybe reads a bit into it with a sexy riff. While Janet blushes, Jimmy clears the air.

Janet Jackson on Coping With Michael's Death (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Mar 22nd 2010 1:00PM
Michael Jackson died while sister Janet was filming Tyler Perry's upcoming movie 'Why Did I Get Married Too?' And, according to Janet, she channeled her grief over his death into her performance, and found comfort from Perry during this upsetting time, she said on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM ET on NBC).

In Perry's movie, Janet plays a successful psychologist whose marriage begins to unravel. Her portrayal, she said, was fueled in no small part by the traumatic news of her brother's passing.

Court to Re-Examine Nipplegate

by Allyssa Lee, posted Feb 23rd 2010 4:45PM
Just when we thought Nipplegate was behind us, a federal appeals court wants to take another peek.

In 2008, the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia had thrown out a $550,000 fine that the FCC had levied against CBS for airing Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction," in which part of the singer's breast was flashed at the end of a musical performance with Justin Timberlake during 2004's Super Bowl halftime show.

The Full Video for the 'We Are the World' Remake

by Kona Gallagher, posted Feb 13th 2010 4:02PM
we are the world remake michael jackson
The original 'We Are the World' was recorded almost exactly 25 years ago to benefit the charity, USA for Africa. Recently, 80 stars got together, including co-writer Lionel Richie and producer Quincy Jones, to remake the classic song to help with Haiti relief efforts. The video was supposed to debut last night during the Olympic opening ceremonies, but they just showed an excerpt. We have the full video here.

It's nice to see some of the same people involved in making the first video in the remake, but this version is populated by mostly new faces including Jennifer Hudson, Josh Groban, Wyclef Jean, and Kanye West, among many others. In fact, there were so many artists featured in this video, that I didn't even recognize them all. The new version is about a full minute longer than the original, and the real question is, how does it stack up?

ABC drops Adam Lambert again and again

by Allison Waldman, posted Dec 3rd 2009 11:28AM
adam_lambert_sittingWhen Adam Lambert was competing on American Idol, there were times when his performances reminded the judges -- and viewers -- of Elvis Presley. And other rock icons, too. It was all part of Adam's appeal. But now that he's promoting his new CD and did a "scandalous" performance at the American Music Awards, he's really getting the Elvis treatment. There's fear that his actions, which are more graphic than anything Elvis ever did, will go too far.

Today, Adam tweeted that ABC had cancelled two more spots on the network -- his upcoming Jimmy Kimmel Live! date and a New Year's Eve performance. Adam added that nobody should blame ABC for the cancellations because it was pressure from the FCC that prompted ABC's action. So maybe we should really be blaming Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake for the infamous Super Bowl breast/costume malfunction? ABC previously dumped Adam from Good Morning America.

Janet Jackson pulled no punches in an interview with Robin Roberts last night on 'In the Spotlight' regarding her brother Michael's death and who she feels is ultimately to blame.

It's alleged that Michael Jackson's personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, delivered a range of drugs to the singer on June 25 when he died, including a dose of the powerful sedative propofol, which authorities believe ultimately killed him.

Janet Jackson Interview With Robin Roberts: She Opens Up About Michael's Death

by Jane Boursaw, posted Nov 19th 2009 1:16AM
Robin Roberts talks to Janet JacksonIt's eerie how much Janet Jackson sounds like her brother Michael. Not only are they both super-talented when it comes to dancing and singing, but they share that same softspoken voice, as if they're in the eye of a storm swirling around them. And that's certainly proven to be the case.

At her oceanside home in Malibu, California, the 43-year-old star opened up to 'Good Morning America' anchor Robin Roberts. It's clear Jackson is still grieving over the death of Michael, who died June 25, but she's also forging a new path for herself, with a new single and video, 'Make Me,' and a collection of hits, titled 'Number Ones.'

One thing that came up is her relationship with record producer Jermaine Dupri. Though it was widely rumored that the two finally married after dating for seven years, Jackson says it's over. "I adore him, and we're still very good friends to this day ... that's all I'll say." Jackson says she's single and focusing on work right now.

by Leonard Jacobs, posted Nov 10th 2009 6:00PM
With Diane Sawyer preparing to go head to head against Katie Couric on the evening news, and with the legendary Barbara Walters, at 80, still competitive but starting to slow down, ABC has to start grooming more women for its news franchises. No one seems to be in a better position to take advantage of this than the respected, if not redoubtable, Robin Roberts.

ABC's Robin Roberts to Interview Janet Jackson

by Rebecca Paiement, posted Nov 5th 2009 1:25PM
Janet JacksonIn an ABC news exclusive, Janet Jackson will grant Robin Roberts and ABC News cameras admission to her Malibu home for the first time ever. The introverted Jackson sister will, no doubt, speak about the death of her brother, as she and Michael were said to be very close.

Though Roberts has snagged the first sit down televised interview with Jackson since her brother's tragic death, it will not be the star's first public comments on the subject. At the 2009 BET Awards, Jackson called her brother an icon and thanked the public for their support.

She also gave an exclusive print interview to Harper's Bazaar, in which she revealed that she had learned of her brother's death while on the set of 'Why I Got Married Too.' In addition, Miss Jackson anchored the MTV Video Music Awards with a performance of 'Scream,' a heartfelt tribute to Michael.

Janet Jackson's breast is costing me money

by Brad Trechak, posted May 5th 2009 8:03PM
Janet Jackson and Justin TimberlakeA long, long time ago, a federal appeals court threw out the $550,000 fine against CBS for the famous Janet Jackson/Justin Timberlake BoobieBowl. And now, after further debate in the courts, it looks like someone in the United States judicial system might have changed their mind.

You know, I just love it when the courts waste my taxpayer dollars by not being sure whether or not seeing a female breast for one-tenth of a second will traumatize the minds of children. To call this entire legal situation a farce is an insult to farces everywhere.

It's time to get over it. The children who saw the breast are now teenagers who, given the ubiquity of the Internet, have seen many more breasts. It's like a bit of the narrow-minded, suffocating zealotry of the last administration is still gasping for breath.

However, if you insist on giving a fine to someone, forget CBS. This was obviously not their idea. Give it to MTV simply for the poor quality of its programming. Thanks.
