'Arrested Development' Coming Back to TV

by Alex Moaba, posted Oct 2nd 2011 8:30PM
'Arrested Development' is coming back to TV. Seriously! Maybe.

Speaking Sunday at the New Yorker Festival, series creator Mitch Hurwitz announced he has been working on one final TV season of the cult comedy that would lead into the long-rumored movie.

Still, it doesn't seem quite like a done deal. According to the New York Times, Hurwitz said they were "80% of the way towards an answer" on the movie, and that 'Arrested' narrator Ron Howard was helping to get it done.

Hurwitz elaborated further: "We don't completely own the property, there are business people involved and studios and that kind of thing. Just creatively, I have been working on the screenplay for a long time and found that as time went by, there was so much more to the story. In fact, where everyone's been for five years became a big part of the story. So in working on the screenplay, I found even if I just gave five minutes per character to that back story, we were halfway through the movie before the characters got together."

Jason Bateman and Jimmy Fallon Recreate a Scene From 'Teen Wolf Too' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 4th 2011 5:05AM
Jason Bateman, 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon'Jason Bateman is known now as a go-to guy for solid, hilarious comedic performances. But he's long been a staple of great cinema, as evidenced by his star turn in 'Teen Wolf Too.' He stepped into the big -- well okay, little -- shoes of Michael J. Fox and blew Jimmy Fallon away on 'Late Night' (Weeknights, 12:37AM ET on NBC).

He showed a clip of Bateman intimidating a woman at school and then he and Bateman decided to recreate the scene with Fallon as the old lady. It was ... well, about as good as the original actually.

Neither could quite stay in character, and we couldn't help laughing along as Fallon overacted both the disdain at Bateman's character and then ultimately the fear as he "wolfed" out a bit, intimidating her. It didn't quite make us want to go watch 'Teen Wolf Too,' but it did make us want to see them recreate some scenes from 'Love Stinks' next.

Ricky Gervais Defends His Right to Make Fun of Hollywood Actors on 'Today' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Aug 3rd 2011 2:20PM
Ricky Gervais, Jason Bateman, and Ryan Reynolds on 'Today'Ricky Gervais was cutting and funny hosting the Golden Globes, but the buzz after the show was about how many people were offended by his jokes. He managed to burn some bridges with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the organization behind the awards. Now Gervais has been nominated for an Emmy for that performance. He spoke with Matt Lauer on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM on NBC) about the experience, and got into a little tussle with Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds.

Lauer said he thought Gervais's hosting was brilliant, but said others thought his jokes had crossed a line. "I crossed the line?" said Gervais. "Who drew the line? I didn't draw the line. Where's this line?" He seemed perplexed by the idea.

Jason Bateman Is Frustated by the 'Arrested Development' Movie News Cycle (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 3rd 2011 10:10AM
Jason Bateman, 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart'Jason Bateman understands that fans of 'Arrested Development' are hoping for any update on the status of a film continuation. While he doesn't mind answering the questions about it everywhere he goes, because he appreciates the enthusiasm, he explained on 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central) that he gets a little irritated by how the media handles those moments.

"Frustratingly, there's never really a significant update," he explained. "However, that doesn't stop the fringe media taking that ... writing a headline, 'Bateman Talks About "Arrested Development" and then you click through. [It reads,] 'There was no update.'"

Kara DioGuardi Judges a Belly-Flopping Contest on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (VIDEO)

Kara DioGuardi, 'Jimmy Kimmel Live'Jimmy Kimmel set up another one of his belly-flopping competitions on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (Weeknights, 12AM ET on ABC). While the first contestants were a little underwhelming, Kimmel got his hopes up when Eddie stood poised and ready to jump.

Clearly, his was the belly to beat, but could he flop it properly? Kara DioGuardi was on hand to judge, while Jason Bateman made sure Kimmel reminded him to jump belly first into the water. You can't get a good splash otherwise.

"I want there to be not a drop of water left in that pool," Kimmel told Eddie.

Jason Bateman Worries Justin Bieber Is Bad For His 4-Year Old (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 22nd 2011 3:31AM
Jason Bateman, 'Late Show with David Letterman'Jason Bateman and David Letterman are on opposite ends of the Justin Bieber spectrum when it comes to their young kids, though they're on opposite ends of the gender spectrum as well. Bateman talked on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS) about how his four-year old daughter is obsessed with the singer.

Meanwhile, David Letterman said he doesn't even think his seven-year old son knows who Justin Bieber is. "Now, have I done something wrong or have I done something right?" he asked Bateman.

After hearing Bateman's stories about how his daughter is "singing about these heartbreaking relationships and passionate bonds at the top of her lungs to a phantom person that's sitting next to her," we're not so sure.

'Arrested Development' Cast: Where Are They Now?

by Kim Potts, posted Feb 10th 2011 1:45PM
Arrested Development
It's been five years since the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning family comedy 'Arrested Development' left the airwaves, and, though we say this with a little grain of salt, it looks like the long-rumored big-screen version of the series is finally a go, maybe even for later this year.

And while we can't wait to see those wacky Bluths back in action, it's not like the cast members have been sitting around twiddling their thumbs since the 'Arrested Development' finale aired on Feb. 10, 2006. In fact, they've been a pretty busy bunch, including many projects in which they've continued to be co-stars ...

Six Former TV Stars Who Should Forget Movies and Come Back to TV

by Bob Sassone, posted Sep 22nd 2010 2:00PM
Jennifer AnistonThe common wisdom used to be this: TV was the lesser of the screen arts, and even if you started as a television actor, you had to graduate to the big screen to be really successful .

Common wisdom is sometimes wrong.

Personally I have never subscribed to the notion that film is a "step up" from television or "better" in some way -- as if you can't have quality and integrity on television. But today it is especially apparent that TV can have tremendous quality too, with shows like 'Mad Men' and 'Breaking Bad' rivaling the best in film.

So here's my list of six former TV stars who tried the movies -- with varied levels of success -- but should now come back home to TV. ... where they belong.

Diane Sawyer: I'm "Okay" With Jason Bateman Using My Photo For Masturbation (VIDEO)

Diane Sawyer: I'm 'Okay' With Jason Bateman Using My Photo For MasturbationJimmy Kimmel is not exactly a hard-hitting investigative journalist. Still, the talk show host is brash and direct, and has a way of provoking a response. If Jimmy wants an answer, he'll probably manage to get one. On the latest 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (weeknights, 12AM ET on ABC), Mr. Kimmel happens to talk with an actual investigative journalist. 'ABC World News' anchor Diane Sawyer is his guest -- and Jimmy has a fairly delicate question that he wants to ask her.

Kimmel brings up 'The Switch' -- a romantic comedy starring Jason Bateman and Jennifer Aniston. Diane plays a part in the film, although she doesn't actually show up in flesh-and-blood form. There's a scene where Bateman picks up a magazine that has Ms. Sawyer on the cover. Jimmy points out that Bateman uses the photo to help "produce a, um ... 'sample.'"

How Jason Bateman Explains 'The Switch' Ad to His Daughter (VIDEO)

'Daily Show': Jason Bateman Explains 'Switch' Ad to DaughterThere's an ad for Jason Bateman's new film, 'The Switch,' that's essentially forced the actor to lie to his 4-year-old daughter, he shared on 'The Daily Show' (weeknights, 11PM ET on COM).

This particular poster shows him "holding a sperm sample in a cup ... I'm making like a disgusted look but it actually looks like I'm smelling it -- which is what you do with sperm, right, to make sure it's something you might want to shoot back," he joked.

When Bateman takes his daughter to school, they pass right by the billboard. "Daddy, is that yogurt?" she once asked. Check out his response.

Jason Bateman Thinks the 'Arrested Development' Movie is Still Alive. Really?

by Joel Keller, posted Apr 21st 2010 4:02PM
Jason BatemanPerhaps you folks saw the tidbit from the LA Times late last week where Jason Bateman was asked to respond to David Cross, who told me in an interview last week that the 'Arrested Development' movie is "not going to happen."

Bateman took pains to not only say the movie was still on, but to say that "bloggers" made way too big a deal of Cross' opinion.

"I think he was simply saying, 'Who knows?' " he told the LA TImes. "He wasn't saying anything definitive, but a lot of people with blogs and whatnot, in the interest of making a splash headline, stretched things a bit."

Yeah, those damn bloggers. Always quoting people directly and then reporting on it. How dare they!

Here's the flaw in Jason's argument: We already knew that this was just David Cross' opinion. Neither I nor any of the other "bloggers" who wrote about this presented it as anything but.

'Ugly Betty' Casts Vanessa Williams' Brother, Plus Our Favorite Real-Life TV Siblings

by Laura Prudom, posted Dec 8th 2009 3:24PM
Chris WilliamsWilhelmina Slater just can't catch a break.

Not only does she have a conniving daughter, a dead lover and Daniel Meade's ineptitude to deal with, now she's set to discover that she has a long-lost twin ... well, kind of.

The Ausiello Files is reporting that 'Ugly Betty''s resident devil in Prada is in for a shock in early 2010 when she discovers that she's the subject of a drag queen impersonation act, ingeniously named Wilhediva Hater. But that's not even the best part -- Ausiello's sources say that the man behind Willie's fabulous doppelganger is none other than Vanessa Williams' real-life brother, Chris Williams. There's nothing like keeping it in the family.

In light of this fierce casting, we at Inside TV have taken it upon ourselves to compile a list of our favorite real-life sibling co-stars to have graced the small screen in recent years:
