Who Scored Big in Week 7 of SNL's Relevancy Poll?
by Mike Ryan, posted Nov 21st 2011 1:45PM
It was a very crowded week for our favorite 'SNL' players. Not only did they have to share the spotlight with Jason Segel --who appeared to be glowing from having so much fun – but they also had to share the spotlight with the Muppets. Also, a key element of success on the Relevancy Poll was missing this week: The "Weekend Update" segments. I mean, yes, there were two segments, but they were monopolized by the real John Huntsman and then, later, by Kermit the Frog. Who's number one? Let's find out!Who Scored Big in Week 6 of SNL's Relevancy Poll?

The reason that Emma Stone is such a good host is that she could easily be a cast member. The sketches don't have to feature her; she can just blend in and play a supporting character. In other words: she doesn't have to be the center of attention. Because of this, it leads to a show in which the cast can really shine. And, collectively, they did! But there were a few that had really standout weeks, including our surprise winner...'SNL' Scorecard: Did Spider-Man Rescue Emma Stone's Show?
by Mike Ryan, posted Nov 13th 2011 12:40PM

Last season, Emma Stone hosted 'SNL' for the first time, a show that would introduce us to "Sex" Ed Vincent and "Les Jeunes de Paris." For Stone's return visit, "Les Jeunes de Paris" was back for a third time (sadly, "Sex" Ed still isn't back) – in fact, for whatever reason, of the first eight sketches of the night (including the two Update segments), only the Digital Short wasn't a recurring sketch. Even the Spider-Man monologue was a recurring sketch! Regardless, it doesn't matter -- Stone has now proven twice that she's a terrific host. But, after four subpar shows in a row to start the season, could Stone keep the momentum going that started with Charlie Day's show last week? On to the Scorecard!
Who Scored Big in Week 5 of SNL's Relevancy Poll?
by Mike Ryan, posted Nov 7th 2011 12:45PM
For whatever reason, I had a feeling that Saturday night's show was going to be one of the better efforts of the season. Maybe I'm psychic! (Unfortunately, I'm not psychic.) Too often, when making 'SNL' predictions, the discussions break down into either, "Well, he's funny," or, "She was great in this movie, ergo, she will be a terrific 'SNL' host." (For the record, I may be the only person alive who instigates these type of discussions.) Here's really the most important intangible of being a great 'SNL' host: playing well with others. Charlie Day played well with others. So much so that everyone got themselves into the act this week, which, with a cast this big, is rare. But that's what made it good! So, with that, on to this week's slightly crowded Relevancy Poll...Jason Sudeikis Loves Seeing Famous Musicians Roll Through 'SNL' (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 7th 2011 4:00AM
Jason Sudeikis came on 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central) to talk about the new season of 'Saturday Night Live.' He promises that this week's show is great right now, though he figures they'll screw it up pretty good by Saturday night. He got to talking about how exciting it is to see some of the musical acts come through, and how the cast often sits on on their rehearsals. He has particularly fond, and funny, memories of watching Paul McCartney rehearse one of his favorite songs.
"You forget that it's Paul McCartney until you try to take a picture of him and a big black guy slaps your hand," Sudeikis said of how mesmerized he was watching McCartney perform.
Who Scored Big in Week 2 of SNL's Relevancy Poll?

Even though the results were disappointing, this week's 'SNL' was, again, very host-centric – meaning there wasn't a ton of lead-role airtime to go around for cast members. Though, Jay Pharoah managed to get his first sketch of the season on the air, while poor Paul Brittain was nearly shut out. But who leads the poll after the second week of the season? A show hosted by 'Bridesmaids' star Melissa McCarthy? It should be no surprise that the top spot goes to...'SNL' Scorecard: Was Melissa McCarthy Even Given a Chance?
by Mike Ryan, posted Oct 2nd 2011 1:55PM

Someday Melissa McCarthy will be a good 'SNL' host. Her name will be mentioned alongside recent 'SNL' hosting phenoms like Jon Hamm and Justin Timberlake. Hell, if given some better than average material last night to back up her deliveries, we may already be mentioning her name as part of this class. Unfortunately, McCarthy did what she could with a writing staff that seemed to take the week off from writing anything interesting and, instead, just gave her a few sketches that resembled poor man's clones of 'Bridesmaids.' To be fair, this was probably to be expected with her first outing immediately following her breakthrough comedy role. But, now that this is out of the way, hopefully, next time, the writing staff will giver her more things to do than pour food on her head and have her fall down a flight of stairs. Alas, on to the scorecard...
Jason Sudeikis Talks His Hurricane Preparedness on 'Late Show' (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Aug 30th 2011 8:45AM
Jason Sudeikis was one of those people who was fully prepared for Hurricane Irene in anticipation of the storm's arrival in New York this past weekend. He boasted to David Letterman on 'Late Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS) about the supplies he'd acquired."I got two bottles of water, but like the big ones, with the squirt top," he said. "And then some chips and salsa." Sounds like he was ready for anything!
Luckily, New York City was spared the brunt of the storm's assault, though the pair couldn't figure out how upstate New York appeared to have gotten hit worse than the south. Well, Sudeikis had a theory.

Jason Sudeikis Can't Smell Farts, But He Can Taste Them (VIDEO)
by Catherine Lawson, posted Jul 8th 2011 8:20AM
Jason Sudeikis stopped by 'Chelsea Lately' (Weeknights, 11PM on E!) to promote his new movie, 'Horrible Bosses,' and the conversation turned to what happens when you get a bunch of men spending a lot of time together in a car.Gas. Not the petroleum type, but the farting type. Having told Chelsea Handler he farts probably as much as the next guy (mostly in the mornings you'll be glad to know), Sudeikis went on to admit that, because he has no sense of smell, he doesn't have a problem with other people farting in his presence.
"So all I get is the fun part." But, thinking about it, there is a downside: "I can taste them," grimaced Sudeikis, "Oh boy, I can taste them."
'Saturday Night Live' - 'Gabourey Sidibe/MGMT' Recap
by Annie Wu, posted Apr 25th 2010 3:00PM
(S35E20) Like most of the public, I only knew Gabourey Sidibe from 'Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire' (Okay, seriously, if we're gonna do that, can we put it on the end of every movie adaptation of a novel? 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, based on the novel 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban' by JK Rowling). It was one of those movies that I wasn't sure if I wanted to even watch because just looking at Sidibe in the trailers made me uncomfortable.
Ryan Phillippe Plays a Girl on 'SNL' (VIDEO)

Ryan Phillippe is perhaps best known for being the ex-husband of actress Reese Witherspoon. But now, maybe he'll be known for donning a skintight unitard on 'Saturday Night Live' (Sat., 11:30PM ET on NBC).Watch the video after the jump.
'Saturday Night Live' - 'Ryan Phillippe/Ke$Ha' Recap
by Annie Wu, posted Apr 18th 2010 1:00PM

(S35E19) All in all, a pretty mediocre episode. Ryan Phillippe didn't seem to stretch himself in any way. Well, okay, okay, he dressed up as a chick for a sketch, but apart from that, there was no palpable attempt to celebrate the fact that Ryan Phillippe was hosting or play to his strengths. I mean, I won't pretend I know what those particular strengths are, but 'Saturday Night Live' usually does a fair job of letting hosts try something dramatically out of their comfort zone or play up something unexpected. There was no sense of that in this episode.
Maybe they wanted to keep the episode toned down to counter whatever amount of crazy Ke$Ha wanted to unleash. By the way, that girl looks like she perpetually smells like drugstore watermelon body spray and BO. If that's the look she's going for, she's really nailing it.
'Saturday Night Live' - 'Tina Fey/Justin Bieber' Recap
by Annie Wu, posted Apr 11th 2010 3:49PM

(S35E18) Tina Fey gives hope to all nerdy funny girls out there. You may be frumpy and strange now, girls, but all you have to do is work really hard, be yourself, create/write/star in a hit show with Alec Baldwin and become super-famous. Then you will finally be able to soothe the flame of self-hate this is currently raging within you. This is the only option to escape your ugly duckling phase. Sorry if you were convinced otherwise.
All right, seriously, this was a solid episode. It felt like Fey had a strong hand in what kind of material was being produced; most of the sketches worked very well for her. This was also the first time I had heard Justin Bieber. And that's all I'm going to say about that.
'Saturday Night Live' - 'Jude Law/Pearl Jam' Recap
by Annie Wu, posted Mar 14th 2010 12:31PM

(S35E17) Congratulations, Jude Law. That was a solid episode all around and a fine return to the 'Saturday Night Live' stage. And despite the fact that Pearl Jam was virtually unrecognizable to any ears that haven't heard them since the early-'90s, at least Law's musical guest didn't have any reason to do an awkward hoedown during a career-crippling blunder.
Cold Open: Of course they had to talk about this. Of course. Now, if you haven't read up on the incredibly weird Eric Massa story, it probably would have seemed like 'SNL' was just making up most of it. Unfortunately, they weren't. Maybe that's why they felt that ridiculously long intro was necessary? Anyway, the treatment of this topic was all right, though the absolute best part was Bobby Moynihan as Massa, attempting stealth snorkeling on Andy Samberg (the weak distraction was especially nice). And no, sorry, you can't unsee it.
