'Modern Family' Wins All the Emmys

by Crystal Bell, posted Sep 18th 2011 9:45PM
Ty Burell, Julie BowenWell, 'Modern Family' is officially the king of the comedy crop at the Emmy Awards. The ABC comedy is four for four at tonight's awards.

Two-time nominee Julie Bowen took home her first Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, beating out costar Sofia Vergara, Emmy host Jane Lynch and golden girl Betty White.

Meanwhile, her on-screen husband Ty Burrell took home his first Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, after losing out to co-star Eric Stonestreet last year. Burrell was competing against costars Stonestreet, Ed O'Neil and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, along with 'Glee' star Chris Colfer, in his category.

Unlike his character, Burrell seemed rather reflective accepting the golden statue, noting that his father passed away before he ever had the chance to see his son perform. "I wonder what he'd think of this," Burrell said, telling the crowd that his father would probably be surprised that his son goes to work in full makeup every day.

'Modern Family' Season 3 First Look: New Cast Photos

by Chris Harnick, posted Sep 7th 2011 4:45PM
Sofia Vergara, Modern Family Season 3Family gatherings can be quite a circus, that's for sure. 'Modern Family' is taking that thought one step further with this new cast image.

The Season 3 cast picture features the gang dressed in classic circus attire -- there's even an animal in the mix! Each person is dressed like a specific circus character.

Last year's photo had the cast hanging out in vintage beach attire.

The new season kicks off with a 1-hour premiere that sees the Dunphy and Pritchett families heading to Jackson Hole, Wyoming for a dude ranch adventure. ABC promises big firsts, surprises and a face-off!

Check out a full gallery of ABC's new portraits -- including the new Lily, played by Aubrey Anderson-Emmons -- below.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson Cracks Up The Top 12 As a Judge on 'SYTYCD' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 14th 2011 3:08AM
Jesse Tyler Ferguson, 'So You Think You Can Dance'It was a packed night, and a night of sadness, as the Top 12 took to the stage for the last time with their partners on 'So You Think You Can Dance' (Wed., 8PM ET on FOX). It was a critical time in the show, as next week the Top 10 are paired up with 'SYTYCD' All-Stars, and it's the Top 10 that goes on tour.

So to help alleviate the stress, Jesse Tyler Ferguson ('Modern Family') joined the panel. He does have a background in stage and dance, but he proved to be mostly there for comic relief. His off-the-cuff comments kept everyone light and in stitches.

The biggest laughs came when he abruptly suggested that Clarice should marry him. This after a beautiful lyrical hip-hop routine she performed with her partner Jess.

'Modern Family' Cast In And Out of Character on 'Inside the Actors Studio' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 8th 2011 1:51AM
the cast of 'Modern Family' - 'Inside the Actors Studio'James Lipton set aside a special hour-long broadcast of 'Inside the Actors Studio' (Tue., 8PM ET on Bravo) for the adult castmembers from 'Modern Family.' To keep things interesting -- and a little confusing if you were trying to watch this while multitasking -- Lipton decided to interview both the actors and the characters they play on television.

As a result, he got some different answers to his favorite questions as when he asked Julie Bowen her favorite curse word. Hers was "dagnabbit," but for Claire Dunphy it's one far more crass.

It was certainly a fun hour, and a neat exploration of how the actors perceive their on-screen characters without the filter of the show's writers giving them their words.

Modern FamilyThe six adult leads on 'Modern Family' flew to New York to tape an episode of James Lipton's 'Inside the Actor's Studio' earlier this month.

The special is scheduled to air June 7 at 8PM on Bravo, but the network posted two clips showing us the hilarity in store for when we tune in next week. For example, the fact that Eric Stonestreet agrees with Jesse Tyler Ferguson's assessment that he's gay for pay, or the non-school-related adventures Julie Bowen had in Florence while studying Italian Renaissance Art during college.

Check out the clips below. (Thanks to PopWrap for the heads up.)

Jesse Tyler Ferguson's Impression of Al Pacino Watching 'Modern Family' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 26th 2011 5:27AM
Jesse Tyler Ferguson, 'Jimmy Kimmel Live'Jesse Tyler Ferguson got a huge stamp of approval from none other than Al Pacino. As he related on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (Weeknights, 12AM ET on ABC), he got the opportunity to work with Pacino when asked to perform at Shakespeare in the Park.

Because 'Modern Family' did a tribute of sorts to 'The Godfather' in its first season finale, Ferguson said he wanted to make sure Pacino saw it. He then set the stage for a bizarre impression. Picture Al Pacino wearinf headphones and sitting at a computer screen.

"You know how when you have headphones on you talk louder than you think?" Ferguson asked Jimmy Kimmel's audience? He then went into his impression of Pacino giving a loud play-by-play of the action in the scene. At least it culminated in a bizarre laugh, which means Pacino liked it. We think.

Is 'Happy Endings' More Modern Than 'Modern Family'?

by Laura Prudom, posted May 11th 2011 3:30PM
Fair warning: I'm about to hit you with an unpopular opinion. And though I challenge the assertion that an unpopular opinion even exists on the Internet, overzealous melting pot of ideas and ideologies that it is, this disclaimer is my paltry attempt to avoid a comments section full of vitriol, mud-slinging and CAPS LOCK abuse. Because what I'm about to say certainly flies in the face of critical consensus.

So, Unpopular Opinion Alert: Not only do I think that ABC's midseason comedy, 'Happy Endings,' is funnier than 'Modern Family' (and a great majority of other comedies on air this year, for that matter), I also believe that it is a more accurate, modern representation of Western life than the show with 'Modern' in its title.

The 'Modern Family Cast Dishes About George Clooney, and Sofia Vergara's BoobsIt might be nice to get into bed with George Clooney -- unless you don't swing that way. The topic of hanging out with George in an intimate fashion is discussed on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (weeknights, 12AM ET on ABC) -- and the cast of 'Modern Family' is there to handle it.

During the Emmy Awards, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet of 'Modern Family' got to film a skit with Mr. Clooney, and be in bed with him. Nice! That's the dream of nearly every single heterosexual woman and gay man. And Jesse and Eric play the gay couple on 'Family.' But, as it turns out, only one of them is gay in real life.
