FX Renews 'American Horror Story'

by Chris Harnick, posted Oct 31st 2011 2:15PM
American Horror Story RenewedAfter scoring record ratings for the network, FX has renewed 'American Horror Story' for a second season.

"It's one thing to have the ambition and guts to reinvent a genre in a way that makes it captivatingly fresh for a broad audience -- it's something else entirely to have the craft to back that ambition up," John Landgraf, president and general manager of FX Networks, said in a statement. "Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk have hit the trifecta with 'Nip/Tuck,' 'Glee' and now 'American Horror Story,' which will be scaring FX's viewers to death for many years to come."

Jessica Lange Reveals That She Has a Tattoo on Her Bottom (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 5th 2011 6:15AM
Jessica Lange, 'The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson'After admiring Craig Ferguson's tattoo, 'The Late Late Show' (Weeknights, 12:37AM ET on CBS) host got Jessica Lange to admit that she did have a tattoo. While she wouldn't say exactly where it was, she used hand gestures to indicate that it's down around back.

Joking around, Ferguson said that he obviously didn't know exactly where it was, to which Lange responded coyly, "You don't know. You forgot I'm sure."

With a smile and a wink, she appeared to have him a bit flummoxed, if only momentarily, and that's no small accomplishment on this show.

EXCLUSIVE: Watch the First 5 Minutes of 'American Horror Story' Here (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Sep 30th 2011 11:00AM
'American Horror Story' on FX'American Horror Story' is one of the weirdest, creepiest, genuinely jump-out-of-your-seat frightening TV shows we've ever seen.

From the minds of Ryan Murphy (of 'Nip/Tuck' fame) and his 'Glee' co-creator Brad Falchuk, 'American Horror Story' has been stamped with the "psychosexual thriller" genre thanks to the many murders, inexplicable phenomena and haunted happenings in the Harmon family's new L.A. home.

But you don't have to wait until the show premieres (Wed., Oct. 5, 10PM ET on FX) to see what I'm talking about -- AOL TV's got the first five minutes of the premiere exclusively for you right here.

Stars Dylan McDermott, Connie Britton, Taissa Farmiga, Jessica Lange and Frances Conroy are nowhere to be found in this video though. Rather, the series kicks off with a set of young twins in 1978 being warned that the house doesn't take kindly to intruders. A dead animal and some body parts in jars later, and the twins learn the lesson that the Harmons will have to learn again and again in present day: People who go into that house don't tend to come back out.

Check out the video and tell us what you think in the comments. Will you watch 'American Horror Story'?

Jessica Lange Cast in 'American Horror Story,' Oprah to Interview Obamas and More

by Jean Bentley, posted Apr 13th 2011 1:00PM
Jessica LangeTwo-time Oscar-winner Jessica Lange has signed on for Ryan Murphy's mysterious new FX pilot, 'American Horror Story.'

According to Deadline, Murphy and co-creator Brad Falchuk are currently rewriting the show to make Lange's part a full-fledged third lead. Not much is known about the pilot, other than it follows a therapist, his "force-to-be-reckoned-with" wife (played by 'Friday Night Lights' star Connie Britton) and now Lange as their nosy neighbor.

The series hasn't been picked up yet, but with an all-star cast and pedigreed creators, it seems like a sure thing for the fall season.

In other TV news ...

Oprah Winfrey will sit down for a joint interview with Barack and Michelle Obama. This is the first time the couple will talk with Winfrey together since 2006. The episode will be taped in late April and air May 2. [The Hollywood Reporter]

ABC Family has picked up a fifth new series, scheduled to premiere in 2012. 'Jane by Design' is a little like 'Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead' mixed with Maeby's studio executive storyline from 'Arrested Development' in that a teenage girl mistaken for an adult takes on a full-time job in the corporate world. The MTV Video Music Awards will stay on the West Coast this year. The show will broadcast live from Los Angeles on Sunday, Aug. 28, at 9PM ET. [THR]

CBS has no love for big-star TV movies

by Allison Waldman, posted May 22nd 2008 4:23PM
WeedsYou think winning two Oscars would earn you some respect, right? What about a Tony and Emmy winner? No, apparently not -- in either case. Two high-profile TV movies which feature Jessica Lange and Mary-Louise Parker are being broadcast -- unceremoniously -- over the next three Saturday nights on CBS. Yes, they are essentially being dumped. The Nielsen numbers for programs on Saturday nights is next to nothing. By running Sybil and Vinegar Hill, these stars' respective films on that night of the week, CBS is showing no faith in them, let alone TV movies in general. I guess Hallmark Hall of Fame movies are the exception to the rule.

Jessica Lange reviving Sybil for CBS

by Anna Johns, posted Jan 18th 2006 2:01PM
Jessica Lange and Tammy Blanchard, who is currently filming The Good Shepherd in Haiti with Matt Damon and Angelina Jolie, will star in the CBS remake of the 1976 NBC made-for-television movie, Sybil. Blanchard will play the title role, of a woman with multiple personality disorder. Lange will play her psychiatrist, who helps Sybil realize that years mental, physical and sexual abuse from her mother caused her emotional problems. Kinda sounds like an episode of Law and Order, doesn't it? I'm sure, in its day, the story was ground-breaking. I never saw the 1976 version, and I know I'm missing out on a lot of pop culture references because of it. The movie is based on the book of the same name which chronicled the real-life treatment of a woman from 1954-1965, who had 16 different personalities. The original version of the movie starred Joanne Woodward and Sally Field, who won an Emmy for the role. The screenwriter, Stewart Stern, also won an Emmy that year.

Filming of the remake begins next week in Nova Scotia. No air date is set.
