Joan Rivers Boots Janeane Garofalo for Being Too Funny on 'The Simpsons' (VIDEO)
It was a very meta episode of 'The Simpsons' (Sun., 8PM ET on FOX), as the opening minutes dealt directly -- or directly through talking about 'Itchy & Scratchy' -- with the dated references issues. Sure, they explained that it takes a long time to animate the series, but is explaining the technical reasons behind the problem supposed to make the audience simply accept it and be happy about it?The rest of the episode had a chance for some sharp satire, but as 'The Simpsons' tend to do, went for the soft approach. When Krusty the Clown's show got cancelled, he hooked back up with the talent agent who first scouted him, played by Joan Rivers. She first booked him on a live show à la Pee Wee Herman's recent broadway revival, and ultimately on HBOWTIME.
Louis C.K. Takes Advice from Joan Rivers, Then Makes His Move on 'Louie' (VIDEO)
How did Louis C.K. celebrate his four Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his work on 'Louie' (Thu., 10:30PM ET on FX)? In a way, you could say he celebrated by sleeping with Joan Rivers. It happened in the back half of the episode, after Louis was frustrated with the audience during one of his casino sets. After turning down a steady paycheck and asking to be fired, Louis took advantage of an invite to talk with Joan Rivers after her set.
The two talked a lot, and candidly, about the comedy business and it's genuinely fascinating stuff. But, in typical 'Louie' fashion, Louis misconstrued some of her statements and abruptly went in for the kiss.
Six Reality TV Stars Who've Gone the Distance
Think about reality TV, and what usually springs to mind is a bunch of youngsters living in homes together, performing on talent shows, or trying to get their careers rolling -- sometimes all at the same time. But let's not forget the elder statespeople who already had a stunning career behind them, only to come back into the public eye by participating in a reality show. Perhaps these celebrity veterans helped to pave the way for 'Sunset Daze,' a new show premiering April 28 at 10PM ET on WE tv that follows a group of people at a retirement community in Arizona's Sun City.
Lest you think it's all pudding and painkillers, rest assured there will be sex! Guns! Skydiving! And motorcycles!

Joan Rivers argued in favor of age appropriate fashion for Hollywood celebrities on 'The Rachael Ray Show' (weekdays, syndicated) today, pointing out that stars should "hide" their bodies after reaching a certain age. To illustrate her point, Rivers referenced several body parts of her own which she keeps well covered. "My legs now, they look like 'Avatar.' They are bright blue," she said.

Joan Rivers Imagines How Twitter Could Have Changed History (VIDEO)
Joan Rivers imagines how things would be different if historical figures like Amelia Earhart and Rosa Parks had Twitter at their disposal on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated).Rivers jokes that Earhart, who disappeared in 1937 during a flight around the world, would have most likely tweeted about her location, and Parks, a civil rights activist who refused to vacate a bus seat in 1955 for a white passenger, would have tweeted about her fateful bus trip.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Joan Rivers Defend Heidi Montag (VIDEO)
On 'The View' today, Joy Behar made a joke about Heidi Montag's intelligence, prompting Elisabeth Hasselbeck to jump to Heidi's defense. "You can't just say someone is stupid and ditzy because she happens to have highlights and has an issue here," said Hasselbeck. Joy then felt so bad that she offered to adopt Heidi as penance.
And on 'The Wendy Williams Show,' Joan Rivers offered her input on the ten surgeries Heidi had in the same day. "I was shocked and appalled because she only paid $30,000!"

On 'The View,' Joan Rivers discussed her detention at a Costa Rican airport this past Sunday when officials disputed the authenticity of her passport. Police were called and Rivers missed a flight to Los Angeles, forcing her to spend the night in Costa Rica and fly out the next day. Not surprisingly, Rivers didn't take kindly to the way she was treated."What terrorist calls ahead and orders a kosher meal?" Rivers asked.

Joan Rivers is still working for E!
There have been three constants in this late stage of Joan Rivers' career. First, her project will involve her daughter Melissa. Second, she will work for E! Entertainment. Third, it will involve interviews on the red carpet of some awards show. All three of these are true in her new series of Fashion Police specials for E! Although in this case, Melissa Rivers is a producer and won't generally be appearing on screen.
I remember her best as the voice of Dot Matrix in Spaceballs. I did watch her Comedy Central Roast and found it to be lackluster. After all the plastic surgery, I'm surprised she can even move her mouth anymore. It's frozen in a grin like Jack Nicholson's Joker.
I'm fascinated to know why Joan Rivers' red carpet interviews are so popular that E! keeps asking her back. Does anybody out there watch and like the interviews? Isn't it like watching a train wreck?
Joan Rivers Returning to E!
Celebrities on the red carpet, take note: Joan Rivers is back on E!.The entertainment network has enlisted the outspoken comedienne with her own touch of crass to host a couple of awards-themed "Fashion Police" prime-time specials next month. First up: the Golden Globes on January 18, followed by the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Jan. 24. No word yet on whether the Oscars will be added to that list.
Joining Rivers on the one-hour program will be Khloe Kardashian, Giuliana Rancic and Jay Manuel (of 'America's Next Top Model' fame), with daughter Melissa Rivers producing behind-the-scenes.
Joan Rivers on longevity, Brooke Shields, and not caring about Johnny Carson
Joan Rivers was in Pasadena in July to promote her show on TV Land, How'd You Get So Rich?, but when I spoke to her after her presentation, I was more interested in a couple of issues. First, her longevity in a business that takes even older comedians and tosses them to the side (Cosby, for instance, is more community activist than comedian these days). Second, I wanted to ask her about her experience on The Apprentice, which included her feuds with wedding planners, Clint Black, and Annie Duke. But, Joan being Joan, she also randomly let loose on Brooke Shields, Sarah Palin, and whoever else was in her mind during the ten minutes we spoke.
We start off by talking about longevity. She feels one of the reasons she stays relevant is that she doesn't live in the past. "I don't give a shit about Johnny Carson," she said.
David Tutera gave up on The Apprentice, not just Joan Rivers
I'm starting to slog through my backlog of TCA-related material, and I wanted to make sure this got out there before it gets lost. When I interviewed Joan Rivers while I was in Pasadena, I asked her about the incident on The Celebrity Apprentice finale where David Tutera, whose firm was helping to plan both teams' parties, pulled out of the show completely after Joan requested changes to his plans. After Tutera presented a panel introducing the second season of his WE show My Fair Wedding, I caught up with him outside the ballroom to get his response to Joan. He knew the questions were coming, because I had mentioned them to his publicist, but I wanted to ease into things by asking him about the show and its upcoming season. Oh, and I asked him for suggestions on how to throw a relatively inexpensive wedding in New Jersey, but that was just for personal reasons.
But Tutera seemed ready. He answered Joan's charges calmly and without the same rancor she used.
