'Community' May Be Just a Figment of Joel McHale's Imagination (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 9th 2011 12:00AM
'Community' cast - 'The Soup'With 'Community' airing its final scheduled episode this week (Save Greendale!), the cast stopped by to visit Joel McHale on 'The Soup' (Wed., 10PM ET on E!) with some startling news. When McHale asked why Chevy Chase wasn't with them, Ken Jeong told him, "There is no Chevy. He's a figment of your imagination."

Eventually, after Adam Scott and Nick Kroll joined them on set, it was revealed that not only were the pair of them also figments of his imagination, but so was the entire cast. Mankini explained: "This is just a delusion you created so you wouldn't have to face the face that you only work at E!"

Alison Brie chimed in, "If 'Community' were real, don't you think you would have seen a commercial for it on NBC?"

'Sexiest Man Alive 2011': Which TV Stars Made the Cut?

by Catherine Lawson, posted Nov 17th 2011 6:05AM
Bradley Cooper, People's 'Sexiest Man Alive 2011'Bradley Cooper's been celebrating being named as 'People' magazine's 'Sexiest Man Alive 2011.' After saying his first thought on hearing the news was, "My mother is going to be so happy," the buff 'Hangover' star joked "I'm waiting for Dax Shepard to come out, and that it's an episode of 'Punk'd.'"

Cooper added: "I think it's really cool that a guy who doesn't look like a model can have this. ... I think I'm a decent-looking guy. Sometimes I can look great, and other times I look horrifying."

So which TV stars have been deemed hot enough to join Cooper on the list? Well, there are some conventional hotties like 'Luther' star Idris Elba, 'Community's Joel McHale and 'Game of Thrones' glowering Horse Lord Jason Momoa, but there are also a few guys who are, well, perhaps less obviously hot in the conventional sense.

Craig Ferguson Keeps Mocking Joel McHale on 'The Late Late Show' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 6th 2011 6:45AM
Joel McHale, 'The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson'Joel McHale couldn't catch a break on 'The Late Late Show' (Weeknights, 12:37AM ET on CBS). McHale may be the king of snark over on 'The Soup,' but he's working off a script over there. Craig Ferguson works off the cuff, and sometimes it just comes at you too fast to react.

Ferguson slammed McHale's broadcast network NBC, and even interrupts McHale's story about his experience at Wimbledon to dig into him some more. McHale said of Wimbledon, "I didn't realize what happens there."

At that point, Ferguson very slowly explained, "One hits the ball over the net and somebody hits the ball back. It's not the most complicated sport in the world."

Jessica Chastain Talks About 'The Help,' and 'The Soup' on 'Good Day New York' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Aug 22nd 2011 4:15PM
Jessica Chastain and her character from 'The Help' on 'Good Day New York'Jessica Chastain had a lot to say about her unexpected box office smash, 'The Help,' on 'Good Day New York' (weekdays, 9AM ET on Fox), but she was also curious about host Greg Kelly's relationship with 'The Soup.' Joel McHale has periodically lambasted Kelly on that show.

Chastain said she was a big fan of the book 'The Help,' and thought the film would do well. But she wasn't as big a fan as her grandmother. "Actually my grandmother is probably the biggest fan of the book, and, so yeah," she said. "I felt that if she brought all of her friends that we were going to be a big success." Grandmom was a little suspicious of her granddaughter being cast as Celia, but she got over it when Chastain brought her to the premiere.

Chastain said she was also a fan of 'The Soup.' Kelly thanked her but said it was humiliating to appear on the show. She said she'd be excited to see Kelly and McHale debate, and Kelly said there will be a response to McHale's teasing. "I can't tell you anything else, but we've got a counter-attack in the works," he said. If it takes that long for a witty counter-attack, 'Good Day New York' may be better off letting it go.

Jeff Loses His Mojo on 'Community' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Apr 22nd 2010 11:45PM
Jeff Loses His Mojo on 'Community'Jeff (Joel McHale) is pretty much the head dude on the sitcom 'Community' (Thu., 8PM ET on NBC). Which is basically how sitcoms work. You've got your cool people, and then you've got your nerds. But on tonight's episode, Jeff suddenly loses all his "cool" powers. Then he finds himself upstaged by Abed, the nerd character (played by Danny Pudi). Yes, Jeff has lost his "mojo." Will he be able to get it back?

'Community' Webisodes Hit the Web (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Apr 22nd 2010 5:30PM
Community, Webisodes, Senior Chang, Chicken FingersHave you been waiting impatiently for 'Community' to come back? Well, the wait is over, my friends, because tonight at 8PM ET on NBC, there's a brand new episode with the titillating title, 'Contemporary American Poultry.'

It's a devastating tragedy when a chicken finger shortage grips Greendale Community College, but Jeff and Troy are on the job, which causes Britta to think about the causes she currently supports.

But, wait! If you just can't bear the thought of waiting until tonight to get your 'Community' fix, a couple of webisodes are currently online that are pretty freakin' funny.

McHale vs. Seacrest - April Fool's Edition

by Nick Zaino, posted Apr 2nd 2010 10:00AM
Joel McHale on Ryan Seacrest's Web siteThe feud between Joel McHale and Ryan Seacrest heated up yesterday when the 'Community' and 'The Soup' star redesigned Seacrest's web site for April Fool's Day. The site was packed with McHale-related photos, audio clips, video clips, and links. The 'American Idol' banner ads showed McHale's photo. Even the Twitter link went to McHale's account, where he disclosed Seacrest's Twitter password to be "hairlesslittlechoirboybody."

According to Entertainment Weekly's Popwatch column, the site was crippled with traffic for a portion of the day, but was available later. McHale's Facebook update, shown on the right side of the site, asked readers to help crash the site again and to keep visiting Seacrest's Twitter account.

'Community' - 'The Science of Illusion' Recap

by Jason Hughes, posted Mar 26th 2010 4:26AM
Gillian Jacobs, 'Community'(S01E20) One of the criticisms about 'Community' throughout this season has been with the characterization of Britta, as portrayed by Gillian Jacobs. While the rest of the ensemble has received praise for their goofy character quirks and the humor they bring to the series, Jacobs has been considered a bit of a buzzkill in the fan community.

Big props to the producers and writers of the series for tackling this criticism head on by making Britta's lack of "fun" the central plot of the episode. In doing so, they even did a respectable job of explaining to us how they see her role in the study group, and I guess I can buy it.

On the other side, because of April Fool's Day, Annie and Shirley are temporarily hired as campus security guards, just in time for a real crime to solve. Did I mention Pierce in a wizard's robe waving around a cookie on a stick?

Annie Chases After Jeff on 'Community' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Mar 25th 2010 9:43PM
Annie Chases Jeff on 'Community'The sitcom 'Community' (Thu., 8PM ET on NBC) has only been around for one season, but it already has a fairly complex love triangle brewing. Jeff (Joel McHale) is secretly in love with Britta (Gillian Jacobs). But meanwhile, Annie (Alison Brie) is nursing a secret crush on Jeff. Got all that? We hope so.

On the latest episode, Annie gets a new job as a campus security agent and chases Jeff down. Is it all a hidden metaphor for their love? Watch the clip and decide for yourself.

Dr. Drew Has a Message for 'The Soup's' Joel McHale (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Mar 22nd 2010 5:58PM
Dr. Drew Has a Message for Joel McHaleJoel McHale continually makes fun of Dr. Drew's shows on 'The Soup.' But on Monday, Dr. Drew appeared on 'The Wendy Williams Show' (weekdays, syndicated) to let McHale know that there's no hard feelings on his end.

Williams herself has a long-standing friendly rivalry with McHale. And perhaps not coincidentally, McHale makes fun of her show all the time. Anyway, Dr. Drew and Williams teamed to deliver an on-screen message to McHale. The message doesn't make that much sense, and Williams refers to "the flies" for some reason, then laughs manically. To be honest, we don't totally understand. But it's all good fun. We're just excited that McHale will be able to joke about the clip on 'The Soup.'

'Community' - 'Beginner Pottery' Recap

by Jason Hughes, posted Mar 19th 2010 12:22PM
Tony Hale(S01E19) "Congratulations, you failed a class so easy that people passing in the hallway get a contact credit."

Utilizing their setting on a college campus has allowed 'Community' to seamlessly stream in guest stars without ruining the flow of the series. This week, Jeff took another stab at a "blow-off" class, bringing us the incomparable Tony Hale as the ethereal instructor of Beginning Pottery, not to mention Lee Majors as the sailing teacher.

While Jeff was able to get Abed and Annie to join him in pottery, Pierce, Troy and Shirley instead took to the high seas ... of the parking lot, when they signed up for a sailing class. Jeff's journey was one in which he had to learn that being the "cool guy" doesn't necessarily mean he's good at everything. The lesson came from a not-so-surprising source: the resident expert on not being good at things.

Jeff Re-Enacts the Pottery Scene from 'Ghost' on 'Community' (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Mar 19th 2010 1:34AM
Community, pottery class, scene from GhostThere's just one rule in pottery class on 'Community' (Thu., 8PM ET on NBC). No re-enactments of the Patrick Swayze/Demi Moore scene in 'Ghost.' Is that so hard to follow? Not for Jeff, who just can't help himself.

Nor can he help himself from humming The Righteous Brothers' 'Unchained Melody' on his way out the door after getting kicked out of class. Can you blame him, though? That pottery class teacher was just begging for it.

'Community' - 'Basic Genealogy' Recap

by Jason Hughes, posted Mar 12th 2010 12:39PM
Katharine McPhee & Joel McHale, 'Community'
(S01E18)
Joel Mchale caught a McPheever this week when Katharine McPhee guest-starred as Amber, a hot chick on campus. The format of 'Community' makes it so easy to drop in guest stars, and yet they didn't just make McPhee simply another student. Instead, we got a "Family Day" event where everybody got to bring in members of their family.

On 'American Idol,' where she came in second to Taylor Hicks, McPhee always touted herself as a singer-actress, so I was looking forward to seeing what skills she would bring to the set. While she wasn't given a very challenging role in Amber, she proved that she could hang with the big boys without sticking out like a sore thumb, so I'll give her kudos for that.

It was a blast seeing Shirley's kids again, as well as Abed's dad. Troy's grandmother, on the other hand ... I don't even know what to say. That mean old relative is a sitcom staple, but still this on went in a very disturbing direction. "I don't understand you, Britta!" Troy shouted to her at one point, and I'm right there with him.

Katharine McPhee and Joel McHale Lock Lips on 'Community' (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Mar 11th 2010 11:35PM
Community, Katharine McPheePierce really, really doesn't want Jeff to hook up with his stepdaughter Amber on 'Community' (Thu., 8PM ET on NBC). He even tells her that Jeff is gay, and throws more cold water on the situation during the introductions.

"Actually it's a very big world, with five billion other women in it," said Pierce. "Good luck." That was just the push Amber needed to move in for the kill, which she does with just the right amount of tongue.

Nice little role for Katherine McPhee, too. Look for her to star in the upcoming NBC pilot 'The Pink House.'
