Backstage Interviews at 'Dancing With the Stars': Kendra, Carrie Ann Make Up; John Travolta Loves Maks

by Michael Maloney, posted Apr 19th 2011 7:00AM
Kendra Wilkinson and Louis van AmstelRivalries, couples not getting along, polarizing celebrities and loads of off-screen drama. These are the things that, for better or worse, have at times dominated the reality competition series known as 'Dancing With the Stars.'

But as regular viewers of the show are finding out, there's not much of that going on in season 12. Instead, the most compelling aspects of the show are taking place right where they should be -- on the dance floor.

There was, however, one feud that seemed to erupt from last week's show -- Kendra Wilkinson appeared to take great umbrage at judge Carrie Ann Inaba's remark that she appeared fearful of embracing elegance.

Wilkinson was still clearly upset by the exchange in the video segment shown prior to this week's dance. But what viewers may not know is that the two women cleared the air just before Wilkinson and Louis van Amstel performed the fox trot on Monday night.

John TravoltaJohn Travolta won't be jumping on the 'Glee' cameo train. The 'Grease' star told 'Entertainment Tonight' he was asked to cameo but turned down the offer.

"They've asked, but when I do musicals I train for six to nine months ... and a show like that is an on-demand thing," Travolta said. "I really have a criteria or a pride that I would wanna knock 'em dead, and I don't think I'd knock 'em dead in a week."

Travolta's 'Grease' co-star Olivia Newton John has appeared on the show twice. Among other high-profile guests, Oscar-winner Gwyneth Paltrow has a recurring role on the series and Anne Hathaway dreamed up her own role and pitched it to producers.

In other casting news ...

'Kick-Ass' star Chloe Moretz will guest on '30 Rock.' The actress confirmed the news via Twitter last night. "So!! Tomorrow I start filming #30Rock bright and early, so you all should expect tweeting to start before the sun shines...oh yes <3 Night!" [Twitter/MovieLine]

'Dallas' without J.R. Ewing? Not if Larry Hagman has anything to do with it. The 79-year-old actor has agreed to appear in TNT's reboot. "I haven't signed any contract but I gave them my commitment verbally," Hagman told TV Guide. "I just told them I'd do it and my word's good!" [TV Guide]

Kirstie Alley's Big Life, John Travolta, Kelly TravoltaAwww ... how cool would it be to have John Travolta and Kelly Preston show up at your surprise birthday party? And even cooler to have Travolta dance with you. That's how it went down on 'Kirstie Alley's Big Life' (Sun., 10PM ET on A&E).

And with the awful time the Travoltas have had after losing their son, Jett, it's nice to see them able to relax a bit and have fun. Hopefully, they're starting to have a new normal that takes them into the future.

Right now on Cinematical

by Kona Gallagher, posted Jun 13th 2009 3:09PM
The folks at our sister site Cinematical are working hard to give you news and reviews of the best -- and worst -- the silver screen has to offer. Here are some of their musings on the latest blockbusters, indies, and everything in between:
  • I have never been so terrified to see a movie until I started reading about Food, Inc. There are some things that I feel I have to learn about, but I'm just so scared to. Read Cinematical's review of Food, Inc. and see if you're as terrified as I am.
  • I think it was Rob Huebel who Tweeted the other day something along the lines of, "If John Travolta called me personally and told me to go see The Taking of Pelham 123, I wouldn't go. And I'd ask how he got my number." I couldn't agree more. Read the review here.
  • I actually didn't like the train scene in Spiderman 2. Cinematical disagrees with me though, and lists it on their Cinematical Seven: Terrific Train Thrills.
  • I love this list: Great Movies You Won't Watch More Than Once. There are so many for me, and I definitely agree with the majority's consensus of Requiem for a Dream. Once was more than enough for me.
  • Angelina Jolie doesn't need to worry about being replaced anymore. Turns out, Megan Fox doesn't actually exist, and is all CGI.

Dallas movie is now a comedy

by Adam Finley, posted Aug 25th 2007 2:10PM

betty thomasWell, the constant changes in cast and directors so far has been comedic, that's for sure. The project is now on its third director after Bend it Like Beckham helmer Gurinder Chadha walked away, possibly leaving the project in the hands of Betty Thomas, who previously directed the bigscreen adaptation of The Brady Bunch.

Many big names were attached to the project, including John Travolta, Jennifer Garner, Meg Ryan, Luke Wilson, Jennifer Lopez and Shirley MacLaine. Travolta, set to play oil tycoon J.R. Ewing, is the only one who still remains.

Welcome Back, Kotter ... you've got mail!

by Bob Sassone, posted Jul 14th 2007 12:20PM

Gabe KaplanPeople who say "hey, whatever happened to Gabe Kaplan?" obviously don't watch poker on television. He's been a player and commentator on the tour for quite some time now. He doesn't act, but he is getting back into stand-up comedy.

He's also a writer. He has a new book out, Kotter's Back: E-mails From A Faded Celebrity To A Bewildered World. It's a series of humorous e-mails to various people about supposedly great ideas that Kaplan has to get back into the public eye. Stuff like writing a memoir about his sex life or starting a gambling camp for kids.
