NBC to Take on 'American Idol' with 'The Voice of America'

Watch your back 'American Idol' -- NBC is coming for you.The Peacock network is prepping 'The Voice of America,' a new singing talent competition to launch this spring. The show, based on the wildly popular Dutch series 'The Voice of Holland,' comes from reality guru Mark Burnett and international mogul John de Mol. According to the Live Feed, casting is underway.
"It's a bold move, it shows our confidence," Paul Telegedy, NBC's alternative chief, told the Live Feed about the show's production schedule. "But we've been busy fermenting a move into this genre for quite a few months. We've been at a state of DefCon 2."
Here's how the show works: A panel of four coaches, comprised of performing artists who have yet to be announced, sit in rotating chairs during the audition. Their backs are to the contestants -- they can't see them, only hear them. If one of the four coaches likes the singer, they press a button and the singer becomes one of their students and moves onto the next round. If two coaches like the same contestant, the contestant gets to pick which judge will become their coach. This way of judging puts emphasis only on the voice, not the "look" of the contestant.
ABC wants to put you in a Golden Cage

Dutch reality mogul John de Mol (pictured) has sold yet another series to ABC. (Can anyone explain to me why the Dutch have such a stranglehold on innovation in reality television?) This one is called The Golden Cage. It's a touch Big Brother, a touch Dynasty, a touch white collar prison. Here's the skinny. Ten people, who have each paid $14,000 to participate, are put in a luxury mansion. They have servants, throw lavish parties and, in the Dutch version at least, have sex with prostitutes.
