John Cho and Kal Penn Share Their Different White House Experiences (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 27th 2011 5:45AM
John Cho & Kal Penn, 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno'John Cho and Kal Penn are starring in their third 'Harold & Kumar' film this holiday season, but that doesn't mean they do everything together. John Cho clarified this for Jay Leno on 'The Tonight Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC) when the host asked him if he'd ever worked in the White House like Penn did.

Cho has been to the White House, though, and got a special treat while he was there. Both he and his father were born in Korea -- his father walked from North to South when war broke out -- so they were honored to met the president of South Korea, and then the president of the United States.

'FlashForward' - 'The Garden of Forking Paths' Recap

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 23rd 2010 11:25AM
(S01E17) This show just keeps twisting and turning. Every time I think we've found a path to walk along for awhile, it ends, forks and twists back around so much that we don't even know if we're going in the same direction.

Facing the Future on 'FlashForward' (VIDEO)

Facing the Future on 'FlashForward'Can you change the future? That's the question on 'FlashForward' (Thu., 8PM ET on ABC). The characters on the show have already seen into their futures. And for one of them -- Demetri (John Cho) -- moving forward means death.

'FlashForward' - 'Let No Man Put Asunder' Recap

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 15th 2010 11:07PM
'FlashForward' - 'Let No Man Put Asunder'(S01E16) Well, I'm going to have to take serious issue with at least one of the plot threads that went down in this episode, but we'll get to that in a bit. For the first time since 'FlashForward' came back, we knew what day it was: three days before March 15, when Demetri is supposed to die.

Some nice plot threads were woven together, which should make for some interesting drama as we continue hurtling toward our April 29 deadline. It was nice to see Aaron Stark pulled back into the saga, along with a continued focus on Jericho. I still haven't figured out how they're connected to everything just yet, but it should be fun watching Stark try and find out.

The enigmatic Dyson Frost surprised me by taking a far more active and present role in the events of the episode than I would have ever expected. I was anticipating this mysterious shadowy figure making cryptic statements in the background to confound and frustrate Mark, and us. I couldn't have been more wrong.

'FlashForward' - 'Queen Sacrifice' Recap

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 9th 2010 2:32AM
Christine Woods, 'FlashForward'(S01E15) After reading that title, I got out my chess board to watch this episode. While amateur players tend to strive to protect their queens, experts know that sometimes the best strategic move is a queen sacrifice. Is that idea what 'FlashForward' was going to be exploring this week, or is it just Aaron selling all his old Queen LPs to finance his crusade against Jericho?

It's a bit of a blow for me to find out that the characters won't be reaching their April 29 flashforward moments on the April 29 episode. I was looking forward to the synchronicity, and it at least gave me hope that I would know what day it was in the show for a moment. That hiatus has shifted things back, and now we don't know when the characters will meet their dates with destiny.

What we do know is that while Mark seems to be taking big steps toward helping his flashforward come true by moving out of the house, at least one major character seems to be doing everything in his power to thwart his.

'FlashForward' - 'Better Angels' Recap

'FlashForward' - 'Better Angels'
(S01E14)
With this week's episode, 'FlashForward' started to remind me a little of some of the more intriguing moments early on in 'Lost.' It's a risky comparison to find itself in, because 'Lost' is poised to be one of the greatest long-form narratives in the history of television.

Plus, with a series name that reminds people of one element of 'Lost,' even if the book that 'FlashForward' was based on did precede the island mystery saga, and with Dominic Monaghan and Sonya Walger in the cast, does it really need to keep reminding people of a show it probably can't stand neck-and-neck with?

Regardless, though, once again 'FlashForward' took some important steps forward in its narrative, while Mark continued taking stupid steps backwards because ... well, he is still Mark Benford.

by Oliver Miller, posted Apr 1st 2010 8:11PM
Demetir Gets a 20 Year-Old Message on 'FlashForward'The TV drama 'FlashForward' (Thu., 8PM ET on ABC) is based upon the premise that nearly everyone in the world has simultaneously experienced a sudden loss of consciousness, during which they saw their lives six months into their future. But sometimes, unexpected visions can come from the past as well. On the latest episode of the show, Demetri (John Cho) received a message from a mysterious figure named Dyson Frost. A message that was sent directly to him -- from 20 years in the past.

'FlashForward' - 'Blowback' Recap

by Jason Hughes, posted Mar 26th 2010 3:45AM
Gabrielle Union(S01E13) While last week's mid-season premiere dived right into the mysteries behind the blackouts, revealing new secrets about Simon, as well as the missing chunks of Mark's vision, the series turned its attention to the more emotional stories this week. Mark continued working with Lloyd to piece together as much as he can about their shared vision, but it was Aaron and Demetri's futures that took center stage.

We even updated the status of Janis' ongoing attempt to ensure her vision of herself very pregnant does indeed come true. But while much of the first half of the season seemed to get mired in these personal stories, to the detriment of the overall suspense, everything is coming together so much cleaner now. I only hope it's not too late.

'FlashForward' Love Scenes Get Awkward for Gabrielle Union's Boyfriend Dwyane Wade (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Mar 25th 2010 9:30AM
Gabrielle Union on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live'Gabrielle Union admits there are some disadvantages to sharing your work with your boyfriend -- in her case, 6'4" Miami Heat player Dwyane Wade.

As she explained last night on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (weeknights, 12:06AM ET on ABC), Dwyane was cool with her 'Flash Forward' character being engaged to co-star John Cho... until he visited the set.

"He was like, 'This is awes-- wait you're kissing him, a lot?'"

It only got more uncomfortable when she and Cho filmed a love scene with Dwyane looming nearby. She imitates his reaction. Awk-ward!

Review: FlashForward - A561984

FlashForward: A561984
(S01E10)
I knew FlashForward was headed toward a hiatus, but I didn't expect it to be here so soon. Thankfully, this was one of the best episodes of the season so far, pushing things dramatically forward for most of the characters and the blackout mystery, as well. We also gained more insight, and thus more confusion, about Simon and his motives.

There won't be any new episodes until March 2010, which coincidentally (or more likely, not coincidentally) is when Demetri is supposed to die, according to the Persian woman on the phone. When the show returns, will its internal continuity have jumped forward three months, as well? I have a feeling it will.

I think more may have happened in this hour than has happened in the last seven or eight episodes. Let's dig into it.

Review: FlashForward - Believe

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 20th 2009 11:49AM
Takeuchi Yuko(S01E09) I've thought since the beginning that Bryce was more one of the more intriguing characters on the series. The fact that he was on the verge of suicide when he had his flashforward was indicative of some deeper hurts that we hadn't explored yet, but this week he finally got his due. We also got to meet the mystery woman from his vision, and now his sketches.

I've also realized that a lot of you are right about one thing. The character of Mark Benford isn't working for me anymore. He's a dick through and through, and he absolutely proved that this week in how he handled trying to track down some information.

In fact, even though Olivia's a little better than Mark, I'd say the "first family" of FlashForward are the two least likable or interesting characters on the show. I think the drama may have been better served by having Mark die in Al's place a couple of weeks ago.

'FlashForward' Star John Cho: "I Don't Know What's Coming"

by Nicholas White, posted Nov 18th 2009 6:40PM
ABC's 'FlashForward' is like '24' in that it's always unclear if a lead actor will be iced by the Grim Reaper.

Series star John Cho says the show's uncertainty keeps him anxious, but that he enjoys the anxiety.

"It's definitely a unique scenario -- there are things that are exciting about it," Cho says of his character's ever-impending doom on 'FlashForward.'

"That part, not knowing, is always part of being an actor that I hate, not knowing what's up next year," Cho told Inside TV at Monday's 'Star Trek' DVD and Blu-Ray premiere party in Hollywood. "That's just a continuing thing ... This is since I don't know what's coming, it's forced me to act in the moment and accept the pages given to me. That's been interesting. I have liked it much more than I thought I would."

Review: FlashForward - Playing Cards With Coyote

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 13th 2009 1:20AM
FlashForward: Playing Cards With Coyote(S01E08) You mean I'm going to have to start paying attention to this show? What do they think they are ... Lost or something? Yes, I made sure to mention Lost in my article about FlashForward, and yes I did it because I know it bothers some of you. I'm a bastard that way.

There was a lot of forward motion in a lot of important ways. Last week's Al-dying, Tracy-returning finale was a huge set-up for the next few weeks' worth of story. As expected, Al's death became big news when Celia went public with the letter he'd sent to her (so I guess that means the FBI found her?). But it was Tracy's return that added layers to the complex onion we're trying to peel here.

In the middle of it all, we got to contemplate the significance of what bra Olivia might choose to wear in the future. See, everything's important!

Review: FlashForward - The Gift

by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 6th 2009 3:00AM
Lee Thompson Young(S01E07) You know, even without Dominic Monaghan appearing (save for one scene), this episode really captured my attention. There was some further development in the blue hand case, but for the most part it was about the people of the cast and how they're dealing with their lives at this point between the blackouts and the time of their visions.

Since the beginning, I've been waiting to find some confirmation as to whether these were inevitable futures, or just possible futures. And every week, I got more and more proof that it just seems like they're racing toward these inevitable destinies. Even the contradicting visions, like Zoey's vision of her wedding with Demetri, and his lack-of-vision left room for interpretation: she was a bit away from him on that beach.

But really, this episode was about Al Gough. We finally got to see the rest of his vision, and it's a doozy. Plus, Fiona showed up in the Los Angeles office, where she and Al meet again ... for the first time.

Review: FlashForward - Scary Monsters and Super Creeps

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 30th 2009 8:31AM
FlashForward: Scary Monsters and Super Creeps(S01E06) Some big revelations this week, both in the flashforwards case, as well as in the situation at the Benford household. In fact, it was at the Benford household that it went down. I was also very proud of the writers for choosing a more challenging route for Mark's character than the tired cliches we've come to expect.

We also got the first encounter between Lloyd Simcoe's son and the Benford daughter, Charlie, and so many things became more clear. A couple more flashforwards to round out the hour and I'm still happy with the series.

And speaking of Charlies, those who've been waiting all season for Dominic Monaghan to finally get down and dirty as a series regular on this little show need wait no loner. His name was even right there in the opening credits under 'Starring.'
