The Terminator franchise missed out on a huge cross-platform opportunity

by Jason Hughes, posted May 22nd 2009 11:00AM
Terminator: The Sarah Connor ChroniclesI just got back from Terminator: Salvation (it was ... eh) and while I was watching it, I couldn't help but think about Fox's just-canceled Sarah Connor Chronicles. It was established when the show began that the two would be working in entirely different continuities. But why?

One of the things that made the first film such an impressive piece of film-making was that they were able to do such a dense science fiction film on a small budget. Now that franchise has turned into special effects and (BOOM!) explosions!! The lower budget forces you to get more creative with storytelling and you wind up with The Sarah Connor Chronicles. But what an opportunity the Terminator franchise had with both outlets occurring simultaneously. An opportunity totally squandered.

Fans get creative to save Sarah Connor

by Mike Moody, posted May 4th 2009 12:09PM
terminator the sarah connor chronicles lena headeyNo, they're not sending nuts, bolts or robot arms to Fox executive's doors. Instead, fans of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles are joining a creative campaign called "Sarah Connor Made Me Do It" to help save the show.

Here's the idea, thought up by our friends at io9.com: TSCC fans are being asked to take photos of themselves posing with products that sponsor the show and posting them on a Flickr group. io9 says they'll make sure Fox and Warner Bros. see the photos and feel the buying power of TSCC fans.

So if you drive a Dodge Ram or love stuffing your face with Whoppers and want to see a third season of TSCC, take a picture and upload it to the group.

The Sarah Connor Chronicles: Earthlings Welcome Here

by Brad Trechak, posted Dec 16th 2008 9:02AM
The Sarah Connor Chronicles(S01E13) "We all know how reliable bloggers are." Words spoken by John Connor, the future savior of humanity. Therefore it must be true.

It's hard to believe the season is so far along. If this season is the traditional 22 episodes, then there is only nine to go when the series returns in February. On Friday nights. On Fox. I hope it makes the full nine.

This episode didn't thrill me and was disappointing for something hyped as the "Fall finale". I was hoping for more of an action-oriented episode rather than a Riley backstory. Even the Riley flashbacks and flash-forwards weren't as interesting as previous episodes.

The Sarah Connor Chronicles: Alpine Fields

by Brad Trechak, posted Dec 9th 2008 12:29AM
Sarah Connor(S02E12) One of the major differences between this television series and the movie upon which its based is that time travel in this series is more complicated than anybody in the movie universe could have imagined. That is probably one of the reasons why the show has adopted such an unusual method of telling a story as of recent.

Mind you, time jumps and parallel storytelling is not a new method. I think Pulp Fiction started the craze and the show Lost has pretty much been built on such a concept. However, in this instance the three separate stories involving past, present and future (or perhaps more accurately cause and effect) tied into one instance. There is even a parallel to John Connor himself (who played a virtually non-existent role this episode) when the baby Sydney born at the end (although fully grown in the future-flashes) became the savior of humanity. If John Connor is supposed to be a modern take on Jesus Christ, who would Sydney be? I liked how they ended the show with Sydney's birth, an experience your average story tends to associate with hope.

I got a laugh when the Fields named the dog Charles Barkley. Get it? "Bark"ley? This show does a lot of play on words.

The Sarah Connor Chronicles: Self Made Man

The Sarah Connor Chronicles: Self Made Man

If ever the show Cold Case did an episode involving killer robots from the future, it would be tonight's Sarah Connor Chronicles. The reverse is also true.

Cameron certainly earned her "most efficient killing machine on the planet" title tonight. And she didn't even have to do laundry. Obviously, the mystery of her constant attendance at the hall of records at night is not going to be solved this episode (since it was only brought up this episode). The real mystery is what happened to Eric at the end? Did he succumb to his cancer? Did he take sick leave? Did he just up and quit? I wouldn't mind knowing.

This episode was entirely Summer Glau, and she was brilliant in it. I think this is her best acting on the show to date. John Connor did play a minor role in the B plot with some development of his relationship with Riley (who is, at this point, either playing with his head, insane or both).

The Sarah Connor Chronicles: Strange Things Happen at the One Two Point

Sarah Connor Chronicles: Strange Things Happen...

The nice thing about being a Terminator and dying is that provided the body isn't destroyed, you could always come back. Although how Cromartie came back at the end was a bit of a shocker.

My review is going to ramble somewhat. I'm writing this after imbibing some rum. It's what separates us from the machines.

Come on, people. When Ellison saw Cameron stick the metal pole into the ground, you'd think he'd be somewhat suspicious. Perhaps that will be a plot point later.

The Sarah Connor Chronicles: Complications

by Brad Trechak, posted Nov 17th 2008 11:25PM
The Sarah Connor Chronicles(S02E09) You'd think that eliminating Cromartie would end all the Connors' troubles, but apparently, Cromartie isn't necessarily gone (he's still appearing in dream sequences) and all the troubles continue.

I consider myself to have at least average intelligence, but tonight's episode had me confused. What was the significance of Sarah touching the three dripping blood dots on the wall at the end? Is it just something to make Sarah and the audience cogitate further on the mystery behind them?

On a side note, I was very glad they tortured the real Charles Fisher (Fischer?) and threw him in jail. I'm still pissed off at him for killing Tara back when he was Warren.

My first question is: why does Skynet even take human allies? I thought the goals of the machine were to exterminate all humans and set up a more organized and logical society (on a sad note, I know people who agree with at least one of those goals). Is the idea that humans know how to torture other humans better than machines do?

The Sarah Connor Chronicles: The Mousetrap

by Brad Trechak, posted Sep 22nd 2008 10:41PM
The Sarah Connor Chronicles(S03E03) Is it me, or have the Terminators gotten more sophisticated since Arnold's day? Arnold never would have set a trap. He would have just pursued until terminated.

The opening of this episode was reminiscent of the closing of the first Terminator movie when Linda Hamilton was driving in the desert.

It's funny how the actor whose life Cromartie stole ended up being (sort of) famous. Usually they try to keep a low profile. Also, despite being the future savior of humanity, John Connor is not above stealing cable. This is a lesson for the rest of us.

Sarah Connor may be coming back for another season on FOX

by Richard Keller, posted Mar 9th 2008 8:22PM

Could Sarah Connor be coming back? If you believe Thomas Dekker, then yes.If you were a fan of FOX's mid-season drama The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and you were wondering if the show was going to come back or not, the following information should give you a bit of relief. Or, at least a bit of hope as to the future of the series given FOX's erratic pattern of pickups and renewals.

According to Kristin over at E! Online, the sci-fi series that takes place in the universe of the Terminator movies (even though some die-hard fans scoff at it), the show will be coming back for a second season in the fall. That information comes from Thomas Dekker, who portrays the young John Connor on that program. Dekker was reported to say that Chronicles' producers are currently pitching second-season stories to the network at this time. In addition to this tidbit of information, unnamed sources are saying that production for the show will resume in mid- to late-June.

The Sarah Connor Chronicles: What He Beheld (season finale) - VIDEO

by Brad Trechak, posted Mar 3rd 2008 11:47PM
The Sarah Connor Chronicles(S01E09) This is continued from the "Vick's Chip" episode post.

Finally, everything comes together. There are references to several episodes (if not every episode) throughout the season and there is something of a climax (albeit a disappointing one). Agent Ellison finally reappears after sitting the last episode out and he comes to the conclusion that killer robots from the future are after the Connors. What's he smoking?

For some reason, I thought Derek was the younger Reese. Obviously, I was mistaken. One of the comments in previous reviews pointed out that Kyle and Derek were alive in the current timeframe. Obviously, this plot point hadn't escaped the writers. Good thing Skynet doesn't know who John's daddy is.

I'll make some commentary about this episode than wrap it up with my thoughts for the entire season.

The Sarah Connor Chronicles: Vick's Chip - VIDEO

by Brad Trechak, posted Mar 3rd 2008 11:44PM
The Sarah Connor Chronicles(S01E08) Fox has decided to show the final two episodes of The Sarah Connor Chronicles (which is still on the bubble for a second season) in one night and treat it as a two-parter. I, on the other hand, will be treating them as two separate episodes for the purpose of these reviews. I will link to the second one at the end of the first so it's sort of like two-Two-TWO reviews in one.

As always, I'm amazed at the sophistication of the television Terminators. One of the reasons Arnold was so great at the role was that he acted stiff naturally. A young William Shatner or David Hasselhoff might have similarly been able to pull off the role. Now that better actors are available, some subtlety and nuance is required in the performance. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

The Sarah Connor Chronicles -- A look at the pilot script

by Keith McDuffee, posted Apr 17th 2007 12:21PM
sarah connor chroniclesWhen I heard of this new series coming to FOX, I had mixed reactions. I'm a big fan of the Terminator franchise, so first there was a feeling of excitement. That feeling quickly changed to fear when the premise was revealed, which changed once more to my just not giving a crap anymore.

I recently got the opportunity to read the pilot script for this show, so I went from not caring to mild curiosity. Could this show pull off a worthwhile addition to the Terminator series of movies? I was about to find out. I should warn you, though -- big spoilers ahead, so tread carefully.

What happened to Sarah Connor? We may find out in a new TV series

by Richard Keller, posted Aug 29th 2006 1:58PM

Whatever happened to little Sarah Connor?Whatever happened to Sarah Connor after her adventures with our dear governor of California in Terminator 2? Well, we may find out in a new television pilot that has been greenlighted by both Fox Broadcasting and Warner Brothers TV.

According to the Rotten Tomatoes website, The Sarah Connor Chronicles is the name of the project. It will revolve around Sarah and her robot-killing savior of a son, John, as they go on the run after the events of T2. If you remember from the third installment of the movie series, a grown-up John Connor mentioned that her mother had died while they were on the run.

The pilot is being directed and executive produced by David Nutter. Nutter has previously directed the pilots for Smallville, Supernatural and Without a Trace, which were all picked up as series. C2 Pictures, which produced the last Terminator movie, will also be involved in the show's production.
