Maggie Skips Her Flight to Try and Meet J.F.K. on 'Pan Am' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 10th 2011 4:00AM
'Pan Am' - 'Ich Bin Ein Berliner'This week, we finally delved a little deeper into what makes Maggie (Christina Ricci) tick on 'Pan Am' (Sun., 10PM ET on ABC). We also got to see some bonding between Kate and Colette, as the latter struggled emotionally on a trip to Berlin. This was 1963 after all, meaning she remembered the Nazi occupation of France from her childhood.

But 1963 in Berlin means something else as well, and that's what showed us how determined Maggie can be when she sees something she wants. We learned that she volunteered the most hours of anyone during President Kennedy's run for office, but she missed out on an opportunity to meet him. At least, until Kennedy's infamous speech in Berlin in the summer of 1963.

Is 'The Kennedys' Miniseries a 'Political Character Assassination'?

by Gary Susman, posted Feb 17th 2010 3:53PM
Coming soon from two of the makers of '24': Another tale of a president whose scandalous, secretive behavior jeopardized America's national security. Only this time, the president is John F. Kennedy, and the project is 'The Kennedys,' an eight-hour docudrama miniseries due in 2011 on the History Channel.

Not a frame has been shot yet, but one documentarian and several JFK historians who claim to have seen the script say 'The Kennedys' as written is full of smears, distortions, and an emphasis on the 35th president's lurid sex life at the expense of his historical achievements. They've formed an ad hoc group, StopKennedySmears.com, and have launched an online petition drive threatening a boycott of the channel if the miniseries airs with the script's alleged falsehoods intact.

The Kennedys coming to History Channel as miniseries

by Allison Waldman, posted Dec 14th 2009 10:09AM
Kennedys_color_JFK_RFKThere's little question that the saga of the Kennedy family makes great TV. Whether it's a documentary or a docudrama or a TV movie, the story of one of America's most family political families is always compelling. Now The Kennedys will be a miniseries on History Channel. 24's Joel Surnow is behind the ambitious production which is earmarked for spring 2011. Two--time Emmy winning director Jon Cassar, who won for 24, will direct.

This will be the first time History Channel has delved in scripted drama, but by choosing a topic like the Kennedys, they're appealing to their viewership. In the story, the History exec noted, "The Kennedy family, from every angle, has always fascinated our viewers.

Commercial spoofs take shots at DirecTV's Chris Farley spot

by John Scott Lewinski, posted Nov 4th 2009 5:02PM
Controversy raged last weekend as fans and media types reacted to a new DirecTV ad using the late Chris Farley in scenes from Tommy Boy. Now, some aggressive YouTubers are taking their shot at offending some people (with DirecTV execs at the top of the list).

The original ad featured a live action David Spade discussing DirecTV against Farley's antics from Tommy Boy. While Spade insisted Farley wouldn't mind, a lot of his fans took offense to using a dead man to hawk a product.

But the video below, from a YouTube page, The Landline, lights up the satellite TV provider with an edgy send-up of the "dead talk cash" stunt with faked DirecTV ads featuring a pseudo Heath Ledger, John F. Kennedy, and someone else you'll recognize.

There's a conspiracy theory floating around that this is actually clever viral marketing from DirecTV itself -- since no publicity is bad publicity. But, if that were true, and word really got out, it'd be "deadly" to the company's business.
