Colbert Gives His Take on Michele Bachmann Comparing Herself to John Wayne (VIDEO)
by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 29th 2011 3:57AM
Michele Bachmann had a strong image in her mind when she compared herself to John Wayne, who she said was also from Waterloo, Iowa.Unfortunately, while movie star John Wayne was from Iowa, the only John Wayne from Waterloo, Iowa was serial killer John Wayne Gacy.
Stephen Colbert, at least, was there to support her on 'The Colbert Report' (Weeknights, 11:30PM ET on Comedy Central).
"Yes, psycho-sexual serial killer John Wayne Gacy is from Waterloo," he admitted. "But that's semantics. You say po-tay-to, I say mass murdering po-tah-to."
Five Great 'SNL' Hosts That Will Never Happen
by Danny Gallagher, posted Apr 6th 2010 6:29PM
A host can make or break an entire episode of 'Saturday Night Live.' In fact, the mere presence of some celebrities like Chevy Chase, Milton Berle and Frank Zappa have turned their slice of Saturday late night into the lowest moments of "Must-Miss TV." However, things are looking good this season. A preliminary list of hosts includes Oscar nominated actress Gabourey Sidibe, former 'SNL'er and '30 Rock' star Tina Fey and 'Golden Girl' actress and new found Internet champion Betty White.
However, some pop culture icons, nay legends, will never get to prove their celebrity power by hosting this comedy powerhouse simply because they never got an invitation, the show wasn't around in their time or they physically couldn't go to the studio. These hosts would have made for the best shows if the laws of time and space went on a week-long coffee break.
In Plain Sight: Iris Doesn't Live Here Anymore
by Allison Waldman, posted Jul 14th 2008 12:04PM
(S01E07) This was quite possibly the best In Plain Sight so far. This is the one I'd submit for Emmy consideration next year. Seriously. From start to finish, this one had it all -- a good story, interesting characters, not too much voice over, a relatable situation and ultimately, a satisfying resolution that was realistic but tough. It also had what has been sorely lacking in the previous six episodes -- balance. Marshall got as much to do as Mary, for a change, and was equally involved on an emotional level. Too often, Frederick Weller's character has been reduced to Mary's sidekick and support system. Not this week.
The credit for this show likely goes to veteran director Sam Weisman. Bring this man back! He gets In Plain Sight and has a feel for the wry humor off-setting the real drama.
