Former Obama Speechwriter Sells White House Family Comedy to NBC
A zany family comedy set in the White House could be coming to NBC. According to The Wrap, the network has ordered a put pilot commitment for a show titled '1600 Penn,' written by Jon Lovett, a former speechwriter for President Obama.'1600 Penn' reportedly focuses on a fictionalized, "dysfunctional" first-family and will be shot as a single-camera show. It's co-produced by 'The Book of Mormon' star Josh Gad and 'Modern Family' writer Jason Winer.
Lovett left the Obama administration in September to take his writing talents to Hollywood. His first-hand experience working in the government is similar to that of Lawrence O'Donnell, who worked as a legislative aid for Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan before becoming a writer on 'The West Wing.'

Josh Gad: In the Limelight
Time to meet the newest member of the Daily Show team, Mr. Josh Gad. That picture to the right is him, furiously staring into your soul and preparing to pump you full of lead/laughter. He debuted back in early May and filed his first report just this week. Both of his appearances involved guns, so I guess if TDS's team were a traditional mid-90s boy band, he'd be the trigger-happy one of the group. Those of you who watched the short-lived Back To You may recognize Gad as Ryan Church, the news director. A few episodes are on Hulu, American readers, with the first episode embedded after the jump for your Internet-laziness/convenience.

When one of our favorite TV shows goes off the air, it can be devastating. However, many times, the cancellation is the birth of a spinoff. Sometimes it can be a great thing (Frasier) and sometimes not so much (AfterM*A*S*H). Here are some this month's spinoff ideas that I would love to see.
