Ace Frehley: KISS's Code-Word For Cocaine Was 'Betty White' (VIDEO)

by Stephanie Opella, posted Nov 3rd 2011 5:30PM
Ace Frehley, aka the Spaceman, landed in the 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM ET on NBC) studios to talk about his life in and out of the glam-rock band, KISS. Matt Lauer got right to the point: "I think anybody who watched KISS over the years, probably the thought crossed their minds that you guys dabbled in drugs." Ace fully copped to embracing the '70s lifestyle.

"You gotta realize, Studio 54 and that whole scene in Manhattan in the '70s, a lot of people were doing cocaine." So much so that the band had a code name for the party-drug. "Well, we called it Betty White," he said, giggling.

Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed Set Their Wedding Date

by Catherine Lawson, posted Sep 2nd 2011 7:30AM
Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed'Family Jewels' fans left hanging by the "will she or won't she?" Season 6 finale need wonder no longer.

We watched Gene Simmons propose (finally!) to longtime girlfriend Shannon Tweed back in July and now, instead of settling in for the long engagement some may have expected, the reality TV stars have announced that they're tying the knot next month.

The pair have released a wedding invitation, which reveals that the ceremony will take place on October 1 at The Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles, and that there's a dress code.

"Classy Cocktail Attire Requested ... although we know some Rockstar attire will be worn." (Hey, could that mean that Gene will get hitched in full KISS makeup and boots? We hope so!)

Jerry Lewis: 5 Memorable Moments from the MDA Telethons

by Moviefone Staff, posted Aug 4th 2011 7:00PM
Jerry LewisJerry Lewis, who has hosted the MDA Labor Day telethon since 1966, has been relieved of his hosting duties. He will not be present at this year's event.

Let's be honest here: yes, the telethon is a great event that has raised billions for the fight against muscular dystrophy – but, those are a lot of hours to fill every year and most of those hours are filled with, well, filler. But! Over the course of the last 45 years, there have been many, many memorable moments. Look: John Lennon! KISS! The Jackson 5! Joan Crawford and her daughter – a daughter who would in the future write 'Mommie Dearest.'

So, to commemorate Mr. Lewis's contribution to society (and popular culture), here are five memorable moments from his telethon.

'Kimmel': Tom Arnold Tried to Save Peter Criss from Drugs and Homelessness (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 15th 2011 6:11AM
Tom Arnold, 'Jimmy Kimmel Live'Fresh out of rehab, Tom Arnold was on top of the world. More importantly, he was ready to pay it forward. As he told 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (weeknights, 12AM ET on ABC), he took a tip from 'The National Enquirer' and tracked down Peter Criss. The tabloid said the KISS drummer was homeless in Santa Monica.

As his story progressed, we started to anticipate the inevitable punchline, but the way it came about was still deliciously twisted. Arnold put Criss up in a motel room and checked in on him periodically, trying to help the guy get cleaned up and maybe get into rehab.

But then his old girlfriend from Boston wanted to take care of him. The two battled it out until one day Criss was gone from the motel. The girlfriend had had him brought to her.

Using Boobs to Get out of a Ticket on 'Gene Simmons Family Jewels' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Jul 21st 2010 1:45AM
Using Boobs to Get out of a Ticket on 'Gene Simmons Family Jewels''Gene Simmons Family Jewels' (Tue., 9PM on A&E) is a reality show dealing with the family life of 'KISS' rocker Gene Simmons. Because otherwise, we would never know what was happening in Gene Simmons' personal life. (And hey! Remember when A&E used to actually show, like, Shakespeare plays and stuff? No? We can barely remember either.)

ANY-way. On the latest episode, Gene's wife Shannon Tweed goes on a road trip in order to visit her husband. Shannon is also joined by her sister. Unfortunately, along the way, they are pulled over by the cops for speeding. Shannon and her sister have an instantaneous good idea. They'll just look all hot and adjust their boobs in order to get out of the ticket! That always works! Unfortunately, the cop who pulled them over is a woman. Uh-oh. Not so good. And the female cop isn't so charmed by their efforts.

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, KISS, Wagstaff FamilyYou just never know who's going to show up on 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' (Sun., 8PM ET on ABC). Then again, it should come as no surprise that a family in which even the toddlers sport mohawks would idolize the band KISS.

Yes, the legendary platform-shoed ones arrived on the scene, hung with the Wagstaff family, and even kicked out a few jams. Rock on. Let's just hope the kids don't pick up any of that crazy tongue action.

Watch the video after the jump.

Is it a Big Bang surprise for Sheldon?

by Allison Waldman, posted Dec 9th 2009 11:45AM
big_bang_theory_christine_baranskiThe world has fallen in love with The Big Bang Theory. That's no big shock here at TV Squad. Most of us have been swooning for the show since it began. However, now the Nielsen ratings are starting to reflect our enthusiasm. Monday night's episode of Big Bang was a series high, and surpassed Two and a Half Men, its lead-in and the anchor of CBS's sitcom stable. Until now.

For the record, in the 18-49 rating, Big Bang had a 5.7; Men had a 5.1. In total viewers, the Chuck Lorre comedy hour of Men and Bang drew approximately 15 million watchers. Now, if you're curious about the upcoming episode, read on. However, if you don't want to be spoiled or listen to some speculation, stop here.

American Idol: We have a winner!

American Idol - Season 8 Finale

At long last, the season 8 finale of American Idol has arrived! It's been fun watching all of the Idols grow in their musical prowess (that's a Paula word), especially Adam Lambert and Kris Allen, the final two performers who couldn't be more different, but are both awesome in their own way.

Ryan started things off by introducing the judges, along with a funny video clip for each of them -- Randy Jackson saying "For Me" throughout the season; Kara DioGuardi saying "sweetie" and "honey" to people who didn't make it past the audition process; Paula's round-up of colorful adjectives (vocal prowess, masterful and effortless, palette, etc.); and Simon's issues with hearing what people say (as in, he could probably use a hearing aid!).

Gene Simmons to judge Jingles

by Allison Waldman, posted Jul 17th 2008 12:26PM
Gene Simmons guitarI've always enjoyed jingles, you know, those catchy commercial tunes that get in your head and never leave. "Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun." See, after all these years, it's still there. I wonder if Gene Simmons would have liked that McDonald's jingle?

We'll soon find out what the Kiss star likes in musical commercial craftsmanship because Gene Simmons has been tapped as one of the judges on the CBS reality show Jingles. It's a competition show, from producer Mark Burnett, he of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader, Survivor and The Apprentice fame. We'll just forget about the ones that didn't fly, like On the Lot (that was painful to watch), Pirate Master (unwatchable) and Rock Star: INXS (truly a train wreck).

Jingles should be pretty challenging for contestants; it's hard to fake it when it comes to writing words and lyrics. The winner gets a contract with an advertising agency and $100,000.

One Happy Family(S04E15) "All right, one more time for the slow kid." - Lee Scanlon

When I was in grade school, sixth grade to be precise, everyone brought their lunch to school in a small brown paper bag, sometimes, girls used a cute version (white bag with hearts, pink bag with kitties) but other than that, there were no exceptions. If anyone was foolish enough to bring their mid day meal to school in a lunchbox of any kind, they would pay dearly. For example, my friend Lance who quickly earned the nickname "Lunchbox Lance" all because of his love for the rock band Kiss. Thankfully, it never occurred to Lance to fight back like the young man in Allison's dream. However, now that I am an adult and I collect vintage metal lunchboxes, I would pay a hefty price for the lunchbox that young man used to bludgeon his tormentor.

The Bones kiss you didn't get to see - VIDEO

by Isabelle Carreau, posted Dec 5th 2007 9:41AM
BonesAll fans of the FOX series Bones know what kiss I'm talking about because we had been waiting for it for 2 and a half years! Brennan and Booth finally kissed (thanks to some meddling from Caroline Julian) during last week's episode.

In his review of the episode, Richard said "The kiss was performed under duress and a bit of blackmail due to the puckish nature of Caroline Julian. So, it wasn't as intense as you would think their eventual first kiss would be." Well, Richard and all Bones fans out there, thanks to the magic of YouTube (and a tip on Ask Ausiello), we can now all enjoy a more intense kiss that lasts way longer than ten steamboats!

Gene Simmons to guest star on Ugly Betty

by Annie Wu, posted Dec 2nd 2007 5:02PM
Gene SimmonsAfter having a slew of beautiful faces grace the set, Ugly Betty is well-known for its guest stars. I mean, come on, they got Victoria "Major!" Beckham. It doesn't get much more fabulous than that. Following the logical progression of guests, the next celebrity preparing to shoot a spot on the campy fashion show is... Gene Simmons.

Yeah, I'm confused too. Reading this article doesn't make me feel any better, as it looks like Mr. Simmons is determined to keep the details of his appearance super hush-hush. Past guests have been pretty open about their roles, so I'm starting to wonder if Simmons is going to play a significant, storyline-shifting part. Dare I speculate that he's Amanda's real daddy?

Hmm... Fey Sommers and Gene Simmons. For some reason, the idea of Simmons having a secret sex room doesn't seem so far-fetched.
