Fat Chefs and Foodies to Get Their Own Weight Loss TV Show

by Catherine Lawson, posted Jul 7th 2011 6:30AM
American Food BasicsYou know the old adage: Never trust a thin chef ... Well, if a new TV series has its way, there are going to be a few more untrustworthy chefs running around.

The brains behind 'Kitchen Nightmares' and 'Celebrity Fit Club' have finally decided to blend the two biggest movements in reality TV right now -- cooking and weight loss -- and are putting together a new show that aims to help overweight food industry workers lose weight and get fit.

Lest the concept conjures up images of obese guys in toques being abused by Gordon Ramsay as they run on a treadmill while cooking Michelin Star-worthy food, the casting call aims to appeal to just about everyone involved in the food industry.

"If you are 75+ pounds overweight or potentially unhealthy & have a job in the food industry, this is your chance to turn your life around!"

Fox Announces 2011-2012 Schedule

by Jean Bentley, posted May 16th 2011 9:30AM
The X FactorIn advance of this afternoons Upfront presentation in New York, Fox announced its fall 2011 TV schedule this morning. There aren't any big surprises, aside from the 'Bones' spinoff 'Finder' getting its debut at midseason instead of this fall as a contingency plan for Emily Deschanel's pregnancy like many predicted.

The long-delayed 'Terra Nova' finally gets its official debut this fall, with the Steven Spielberg-produced dinosaur show airing Monday nights at 8PM before 'House.' 'The X Factor' takes over 'American Idol''s time slot, and will help launch a new comedy on Wednesday nights.

Another interesting tidbit to note: 'America's Most Wanted' has been discontinued as a regular TV series; after 23 years Fox has decided to bring back the show in the form of occasional specials.

'Kitchen Nightmares' Chef Joseph Cerniglia Found Dead

by Joel Keller, posted Sep 27th 2010 4:30PM
Gordon Ramsay and Joseph Cerniglia in the Campania episode of 'Kitchen Nightmares' on FOXLast year, I did an article for New Jersey Monthly magazine about Garden State restaurants that had participated in Gordon Ramsay's 'Kitchen Nightmares.' The participants met with varied amounts of success, but Joseph Cerniglia (right, pictured with Ramsay), owner of Campania restaurant in Fair Lawn, seemed to be one of the happiest to have undergone the change.

So I was surprised to hear that Cerniglia's body was found floating in the Hudson River near the George Washington Bridge on Friday. No word of how he got there, but according to the Bergen Record, there were no signs of foul play and motorists reported someone jumping off the bridge just hours before Cerniglia's body was found.

Gordon Ramsay Water Skis Behind Some Buffalo in India (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Aug 20th 2010 5:39AM
Gordon Ramsay Water Skis Behind Some Buffalo in IndiaHow many TV shows does Gordon Ramsay appear on, anyway? We count four, but maybe we've missed some? ... There's 'Hell's Kitchen,' 'MasterChef,' 'Kitchen Nightmares,' and now -- 'Gordon Ramsay's Great Escape' (Thu., 9PM ET on BBC America). On this new series, Ramsay takes a break from yelling at people in kitchens, in order to explore the home of his favorite cuisine. And the country he heads to is: India.

Now, India isn't necessarily the most relaxing place for a vacation, per se. But it is an amazing country, with a long history and an incredible culture. And as a special bonus, Ramsay shows that he can curse just as much in India as anywhere else.

What to Watch: March 19

'Kitchen Nightmares' (9PM, Fox)
The good news: Mama Rita's Authentic Mexican Cantina, of Newbury Park, California, is still in business (http://www.mamaritas.com/), so owner Laura's time with Gordon Ramsay in tonight's episode must have been fruitful. Because when Gordo arrives at Mama Rita's -- named in homage to Laura's beloved grandmother -- the owner is facing potential foreclosure, thanks to a business that's flailing with a lack of leadership from management and kitchen too full of chaos. Mama Rita's has already proven successful as a catering company, but the transition into a restaurant hasn't gone smoothly, and, as Gordon will make her realize, Laura's going to have to make a painful choice between a friendship and keeping her business going if Mama Rita's is going to keep cooking.
