'Kimmel': Are the Other 'X Factor' Judges Ganging Up on Simon Cowell? (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Dec 13th 2011 3:00AM
'The X Factor' judges, 'Jimmy Kimmel Live'In the past two weeks, Simon Cowell has gone from three to one act on 'The X Factor.' In both instances, it came down to the women on the panel to decide. The first week, they eliminated Drew. This week, Nicole Scherzinger threw it to the public vote and Rachel Crow was out.

"Do you guys feel like you ganged up on Simon's contestants specifically because you wanted to win this competition?" Jimmy Kimmel asked the other three judges on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (Weeknights, 12AM ET on ABC). All of them, of course, vehemently denied it.

'The X Factor' Recap: The Judges Choose The Top 12 (VIDEO)

by Laura Prudom, posted Oct 26th 2011 3:00AM
X FactorThere were some controversial choices made during the judges' houses round of 'The X Factor,' but our mentors had the chance to right many wrongs with this week's live elimination show, as each category had to narrow their finalists down to three in order to proceed to America's vote next week.

Up until tonight, the groups seemed like the weakest category by a mile, but smart song choices and confident choreography helped Paula up the ante and raise her category to the standard of the soloists -- though I doubt even the smooth moves of the Stereo Hogzz can compete with the likes of Drew, Josh or Stacy.

Join us after the jump to find out who made it into the top 12 to compete for your votes next week.

'The X Factor' Recap: Top 4 Performances From the Judges' Houses (Part 1)

by Laura Prudom, posted Oct 14th 2011 5:15AM
X Factor Judges['The X Factor - Season 1, Episode 7]

An audition round is an audition round, and Hollywood Week by any other name ("Boot Camp") would smell as sweet, but now we've reached the "Judges' House" portion of 'The X Factor,' and this is where the show should really start to differentiate itself from its rivals.

Did it succeed? Partially. Whether any of the judges actually occupy these lavish abodes is questionable (I'm especially suspicious of Cowell), but it was a refreshing change to actually see the entirety of the contestants' performances (aside from Over 30 waiter James Kenney, who, I guess, the producers deemed too boring). Seeing only two artists between every ad break got more than a little tedious, though, as did the constant recapping of last week's events. But aren't we all jealous of Steve Jones and his jetsetting job?

Hit the jump for our four favorite performances of the night -- we picked one from each category, just to be fair, though right now I think that L.A. Reid's boys should eliminate almost everyone else.

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 14th 2011 3:45AM
Phillip Lomax, 'The X Factor'After getting bumped back a day thanks to a rain-delayed ALCS game, 'The X Factor' (Thu., 8PM ET on FOX) kicked off the 'Judges' Houses' round of the competition, featuring the final 32 competitors. And to whet our appetites for what's to come, we're being treated to full performances from each of them as they sing for their spots in the Top 16.

L.A. Reid, who's mentoring the Boys category, brought in Rihanna to help him make the tough decision of which four boys to send home. But he made the challenge even harder for Phillip Lomax by tasking him to sing a Rihanna song in front of the woman herself.

'X Factor' Contestant Stacy Francis Battles on After the Death of Her Father

by Catherine Lawson, posted Oct 6th 2011 7:15AM
Stacy FrancisSingle mother Stacy Francis blew 'The X Factor' judges away with her audition last month.

Proving that it's never too late to make your dreams come true the 42-year old Francis seemed on her way to the top. Her stunning performance of Carole King's 'Natural Woman' won her a standing ovation and saw her safely through to the "bootcamp" round of the competition.

However, just two weeks ago, the Brooklyn native received the devastating news that her father had died. TMZ reports that Francis strongly considered quitting the show to be with her family but ultimately decided to stay because that's what her father would have wanted.

'The X Factor' Judges Fight Over Contestant Tiah Tolliver

by Catherine Lawson, posted Sep 29th 2011 6:15AM
'The X Factor'As his fellow Brits would say, it was "handbags" time on 'The X Factor' last night as Simon Cowell lost his temper with his fellow judges.

Teenage singer Tiah Tolliver split the judging panel straight down the middle, with Cowell -- "I'm saying 'yes' a hundred percent" -- and L.A. Reid voting to put her through to the next round, and the female judges voting to send her home.

When Nicole Scherzinger said "I'll have to pass," the crowd started booing, and an irritated Cowell exclaimed "Oh, for god's sake!"

Paula Abdul's decision to say no was greeted with Cowell hurling a piece of paper to the floor and turning away in disgust.

by Laura Prudom, posted Sep 29th 2011 5:00AM
The X Factor judgesThe first of this week's 'X Factor' episodes was a little lacking in actual talent, but it's reassuring to know that we only have to suffer through one more audition round before we can get to the good stuff.

(I wonder if all of the true stars are being left on the cutting room floor so that they can shine during Hollywood Week bootcamp instead?)

Though not every contestant can be like Chris Rene, there were still a few memorable performances this Wednesday night, so we waded through the filler to dig up the Top Five most memorable acts -- good and bad -- for our video highlights.

Nicole Scherzinger's a Hit at 'The X Factor' Auditions

by Catherine Lawson, posted Jun 10th 2011 5:45AM
Nicole ScherzingerNewly appointed judge Nicole Scherzinger made her debut at 'The X Factor' auditions in Newark, New Jersey. And, according to Simon Cowell, "she was terrific."

It seems that Scherzinger has been hired to be the mean judge: Cowell introduced her to the crowd as "our own answer to Cruella de Vil," the villainous puppy-skinner from '101 Dalmatians.'

Scherzinger sidestepped questions about the controversy surrounding the exit of former judge Cheryl Cole from the show, telling 'The Daily Mirror' that "I haven't spoken to Cheryl but she is a lovely, talented, sweet girl. ... I don't know how it went down."

She added that "I found out at the same time as everyone else. I just turned up for work and I'm happy to be here. I just hope she has made the right decisions for her."

'The X Factor' Auditions: L.A. Reid is 'Mean,' Simon Cowell tells Audience to Behave Badly

by Catherine Lawson, posted May 9th 2011 7:40AM
Antonio 'L.A.' ReidWith the 11th-hour confirmation of Paula Abdul as the fourth judge, 'X Factor' auditions were able to get underway over the weekend. And how. Fans got to see new Brit additions Cheryl Cole and Steve Jones in action, Paula Abdul showed up three hours late, Simon Cowell named the audience "the fifth judge," and one judge showed his nasty side.

Simon Cowell is used to being "the mean one" on 'American Idol,' but now it seems as though record label exec and Grammy-winning producer L.A. Reid is going to give him a run for his money. According to EW.com, Reid chose a direct approach when he introduced himself to the audience: "I'm not the Randy of the panel. I ... judge talent honestly. I'm brutally honest."

Cowell deputized the audience as "the fifth judge" and told them, "Basically you're here to tell us who you like. You can be as badly behaved as you want, actually. The whole reason for doing this is I trust you guys for being able to judge this process. There's $5 million at stake."

Who is 'X Factor' Judge Cheryl Cole?

by Jean Bentley, posted May 5th 2011 12:00PM
Cheryl ColeThroughout the long, drawn-out search for judges to join Simon Cowell on the American version of his singing talent competition, 'The X Factor,' one name has been brought up more often than any other: Cheryl Cole.

Today, Cowell and Fox confirmed Cole's place on the judging panel for his new show, alongside record mogul L.A. Reid and a yet-to-be-named fourth person (most likely Cowell's former 'Idol' compatriot Paula Abdul). So, who exactly is Cole anyway?

The 27-year-old British singer is a reality talent competition veteran herself, having been selected as a member of the girl group Girls Aloud via the TV show 'Popstars The Rivals' in 2002. The band has released five albums and sold more than 10 million records and has had 20 top 10 singles.

Enrique Iglesias, L.A. ReidSimon Cowell won't let 'American Idol' hog all the glory this Wednesday -- two new names have been added to the long list of rumored 'X Factor' personalities.

According to new reports, two music icons are in talks to join the series. Noted record producer Antonio L.A. Reid will join 'The X Factor' as a judge, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and pop star Enrique Iglesias is also on board -- but probably as a host.

Deadline reports that Cowell wants to shake things up by hiring a musician as the show's host. Iglesias, however, is more interested in being a judge. Since the singer's music career is doing well right now, he could decline the offer altogether.
