La Femme Nikita
Mashup: A Salute to Butt-Kicking TV Women (VIDEO)
Yesterday was the last day of Women's History Month, bringing to an end AOL TV's month-long celebration of Women on TV.We've had tribute lists and graphics, but we wanted to go out with a bang: a mashup! What better way to salute some of the most iconic and powerful woman in television history than with a video of them in action?
Below you'll find one awesome video -- if we do say so ourselves -- of fierce females in action. There's plenty of canceled Joss Whedon goodness and soapy slaps to satisfy everybody.
'La Femme Nikita' Cast: Where Are They Now?
Several woman have played the gun-toting assassin Nikita: first, Anne Parillaud in the original 1990 French film, then Bridget Fonda (as "Nina") in the 1993 American remake, 'Point of No Return' and now Hong Kong star Maggie Q., who is stepping into Nikita's deadly shoes for the new CW series which debuts tonight (9PM ET).But the actress who embodied Nikita for the longest time remains Peta Wilson, star of the '90s series 'La Femme Nikita.'
CW picks up pilot from Gilmore Girls creator and a La Femme Nikita remake
The CW has picked up two new pilots for the fall season. The first is an untitled family drama on a Wyoming horse farm that is being done by Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and her husband. The second is yet another television remake of La Femme Nikita (which is based on a French movie that was made into an American movie).
The latter is going to be produced by McG and have a slight change in concept from the previous versions. In this one, Nikita goes rogue and a new assassin is trained to replace her. By "replace", there's a chance they mean "exterminate".
My guess is that the new version of La Femme Nikita is going for the name-brand recognition and will evolve into something different than its predecessors, like Battlestar Galactica. Of course, if female assassins aren't your thing, you could always watch the drama on the Wyoming farm.
McG, 'Gilmore Girls' Creator Sign With CW
Fans of the late, lamented mother-daughter drama 'Gilmore Girls' have reason to celebrate today as the network has announced they are re-teaming with the show's creator Amy Sherman-Palladino for a new series. But will lingering resentment over 'Gilmore''s demise threaten the project? That's the key question being asked after the Wrap reported today that Sherman-Palladino and her husband, producer Daniel Palladino, had agreed to create a new series for the network that famously forced them out in 2006 following a contract dispute. That decision resulted in the final lame-duck season of 'Gilmore Girls' becoming a critical and ratings failure and eventually led Sherman-Palladino to create the equally unpopular Fox sitcom 'The Return of Jezebel James,' which crashed after just three episodes.
