After Fox Cancellations, Suggestions for What Jackie Earle Haley, Shawn Ryan and Mark Valley Should Do Next

by Maureen Ryan, posted May 11th 2011 12:20PM
News broke Tuesday that several Fox shows have been cancelled, but aside from lamenting the potential that each of the Fox dramas had, let's not dwell on the fact that 'Breaking In,' 'Lie to Me,' 'The Chicago Code,' 'Traffic Light' and 'Human Target' are no longer among us.

Let's focus instead on what the actors and producers from that show should do next. Here are a few of our suggestions; feel free to offer your own in the comment area.

Jackie Earle Haley, late of 'Human Target'
JEH on season 3 of 'Justified.' How incredible would it be to see Haley in Harlan? Dear television industry (specifically 'Justified' creator Graham Yost and FX): Make this happen. Please. Pretty please.

Shawn Ryan, late of 'The Chicago Code'
Ryan's had a tough go of it in recent months. The late, great 'Terriers' was canceled by FX in December, and now 'Code' is gone too.

Fox Cancels 'Human Target,' 'Lie to Me,' 'The Chicago Code' and More

by Catherine Lawson, posted May 11th 2011 8:30AM
Fox logoIt's that time of year again, the upfronts, when TV networks decide which shows live and which shows die. This year Fox has become the first network to announce which shows are being culled, and it's bad news for Christian Slater. Again...

Fox announced that it's cancelling five of its live action shows: 'Human Target,' Lie to Me,' 'The Chicago Code,' 'Traffic Light' and 'Breaking In.' It also dropped the ax on some of its drama pilots, including the much talked-about 'Locke & Key' and 'Exit Strategy.'

Angry fans turned to Twitter to vent as the news broke late Tuesday, with 'Human Target' fans being among the most vocal. In fact, according to THR, they tweeted so vociferously that the show became a Top 10 trending topic.

What to Watch: January 31 - February 6

by Stephanie Earp, posted Jan 30th 2011 2:00AM

Puppy Bowl VI - Sunday February 6, 6PM ET, Animal Planet

Returning to compete against the Super Bowl, Puppy Bowl is sort of like a live-action version of Cute Overload. To put it bluntly, it's a bunch of cute puppies on a miniature football field. They lick each other, cuddle with each other and pee on stuff. There a puppy's-eye-view cam and a water dish cam, a kitten half-time show and at the end of the 'game,' there's even an MVP. If this wasn't all adorable enough, it turns out all the puppies on screen are available for adoption through the SPCA. Canadians can follow up here.

Orange County Choppers Faces Foreclosure, Fox Hit With 'Lie to Me' Lawsuit and More

by Chris Harnick, posted Jan 25th 2011 12:00PM
Paul Teutul Sr.Orange County Choppers is facing foreclosure on an upcoming episode of its reality series, 'American Chopper.'

In November, the Times Herald Record reported that the lender behind OCC's headquarters in Newburgh, N.Y., filed a foreclosure action against the reality stars. The preview for next week's 'American Chopper: Senior Vs. Junior' showed Paul Teutul Sr. dealing with the news.

According to The Times Herald Record, Orange County Choppers has two mortgages through GE Commercial Finance Business Property Corp. One is for $11 million and the other is for $1.5 million. The November foreclosure action said the OCC missed payments of $96,400 and $14,000. They were due July 1.

Richard Mahon, lawyer for the Choppers, told the newspaper in November that his clients stopped making payments to put pressure on the lender to modify terms of the loan since the value of the building has changed in the recession.

"This is just a bump in the road," Mahon told the Record. "We believe the parties will reach a resolution and the headquarters will continue in this location."

News Roundup: Ed O'Neill Denies Dissing Jane Lynch, MTV's 'Inbetweeners' Cast and More

by Jean Bentley, posted Dec 9th 2010 12:00PM
Ed O'Neill'Modern Family' patriarch Ed O'Neill said he was misquoted in a recent article that alleged he didn't think Jane Lynch deserved her Emmy for playing Sue Sylvester on the Fox hit 'Glee.'

A TV Guide Canada story earlier this week (which has since been retracted) quoted O'Neill as saying "I love Jane, honestly I do. I'm dying to star in one of Christopher Guest's movies alongside her, but I don't think she should have gotten the Emmy for that part. [Sue Sylvester] is just a one-note character."

However, the actor told Entertainment Weekly, "I never said those words and transcripts of the press conference attest to that fact. ... I absolutely never said, nor do I believe that Jane -- whom I think is an enormous talent -- was undeserving of the award."

'Chuck,' 'Gossip Girl' Top Most Pirated TV Show List

by Chris Harnick, posted Dec 1st 2010 5:40PM
Chuck
You're not likely to see 'The Walking Dead' and '90210' show up on the same list very often. Well, except for torrent website Pirate Bay's ranking of the most pirated TV shows.

It's no surprise that premium cable shows are ranked throughout the list, but the other random entries make it hard to pin down any sort of overall trend.

There are genre shows such as 'Chuck' and 'The Walking Dead,' both of which have a strong niche audience. Then there's '90210' and 'Gossip Girl.' They would indicate an already known fact: Young, tech-savvy viewers are doing the downloading. But there are some surprises, like one very popular Canadian series and several US shows that pull in mediocre ratings.

Cal's Romantic Shoot-Out on 'Lie to Me'On 'Lie to Me' (Mon., 9PM ET on FOX), Dr. Cal Lightman is paying Detective Wallowski a visit when some gang members break into her house. Lightman and Wallowski have just enough time to set a fake romantic scene -- low lighting, "sexy music," candles and strewn clothing -- that will lead the intruders into her bedroom.

Sure enough, the gang leader charges in and sprays the room (the bed, in particular) with bullets. But Lightman and Wallowski are hiding in closets and armed with guns from a hidden rack ("My dad said always have options"). They work together to bring him down and scare off his accomplices.

'Lie to Me' Season 3 Premiere: Cal Helps Rob a Bank? (VIDEO)

by Aimee Deeken, posted Oct 5th 2010 9:00AM
Cal Helps Rob a Bank on 'Lie to Me'Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth) and the 'Lie to Me' (Mon., 9PM ET on FOX) crew are back sooner than expected, thanks (or no thanks, depending on your opinion) to the network's cancellation of 'Lone Star' after two episodes.

As season 3 begins, Cal has just severed ties with the FBI, but that doesn't mean he's not working. While at the bank, he notices another guy is casing the joint. Cal pretends he's a disgruntled ex-bank employee seeking some revenge. They let him in on the action.

Just before the break-in, he's told, "No distractions, no histrionics ... Me and the others will control the situation while you open the safe. We're in, we're out," says the criminal ("Marlo" from 'The Wire'). But things don't go according to plan -- not that plan, anyway.

Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth) is an expert at uncovering the truth and decoding the body language of others. But it turns out that he's not so good at this when it comes to his own daughter.

On the season finale of 'Lie to Me' (Mon., 9PM ET on Fox), Lightman arrives home to find his teenager daughter Emily (Hayley McFarland) messing around with a boy upstairs. Cal is outraged, and forces the young man (played by Carter Jenkins) to leave. Emily is pretty upset herself, and says this to her father: "It's just sex, dad!" Which really doesn't improve the situation.

Just when FBI Special Agent Ben Reynolds starts seeing the light of the Lightman Group, this has to happen.

Mekhi Phifer's Ben Reynolds character will not be a part of the Fox's 'Lie to Me' in season 3 due to a change in the dramatic structure of the show.
