April 2012 marks the 100th anniversary of the 'Titanic' sinking on her maiden voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. To mark the occasion not one, but two, epic TV series are being produced about the disaster.

Production is already underway on the 'Titanic' mini-series, which has been penned by 'Downton Abbey' creator Julian Fellowes and will star 'Law & Order' vet Linus Roache among others.

Now casting is being finalized for a rival 12-part series 'Blood and Steel.'

According to Deadline, Derek Jacobi ('The King's Speech,' 'I, Claudius'), Chris Noth ('Sex and the City'), Neve Campbell ('Scream') and Kevin Zegers ('Gossip Girl') are all in various stages of negotiations to join the project.

Linus Roache is bringing back Michael Cutter, his 'Law & Order' character, for a spin on 'SVU.'

According to TVLine, Roache will appear in the Season 13 premiere of 'Law & Order: SVU.' The character now oversees the Special Victims Unit as bureau chief of the district attorney's office.

"I am very happy to be bringing Michael Cutter back to life and exploring how he has evolved into his new position of being a bureau chief and possibly even a mentor," Roache said in a statement. "I think Special Victims is going to be an area where Cutter's passion for justice can really come forth."

'Law & Order: SVU' premieres on Wed., Sept. 21 at 10PM.

In other casting news ...

The cast has been announced for 'Downton Abbey' creator Julian Fellowes's new miniseries, 'Titanic.'

Linus Roache, last seen on U.S. television screens playing Exec A.D.A. Michael Cutter in the final season of 'Law & Order,' has signed on for a lead role in the four-part production.

He'll be joined onboard the doomed liner by fellow Brits and 'Masterpiece Theatre' vets Geraldine Somerville ('Gosford Park,' the 'Harry Potter' movies), Toby Jones ('Captain America,' 'Elizabeth I'), Celia Imrie ('Cranford,' 'Bridget Jones'), James Wilby ('Gosford Park') and Steven Waddington ('The Tudors,' 'Sleepy Hollow').

Recent TV cancellations have left some actors -- up-and-comers and established stars -- stranded. But there's no reason why these actors should be out of work.

Primetime shows just need to follow the lead of the still-breathing soap operas, whose casting directors are picking up actors from canceled shows (Maura West moved from 'As the World Turns' to 'The Young and the Restless'; Kim Zimmer jumped on 'One Life to Live' from 'Guiding Light,' etc.)

So let's take our favorite actors from primetime shows we've lost and plug them into current hits.

HBO's 'Miraculous Year' is adding more recognizable faces to its already impressive roster. According to the Ausiello Files, Lee Pace of 'Pushing Daisies' and 'Law & Order' ADA Linus Roache have been tapped to join the drama, which revolves around a New York family. Kathryn Bigelow, Oscar-winning director of 'The Hurt Locker,' is directing the pilot and executive producing.

The cast already includes Hope Davis, Frank Langella and Patti LuPone. Tony winner Eddie Redmayne plays the lead role, described as a "charismatic, self-destructive Broadway composer," according to Ausiello. Stark Sands of 'Generation Kill' is also a recent addition.

I haven't warmed up to Jeremy Sisto and Anthony Anderson, but I still like the second half of the Law and Order team. This season finale was ... convoluted. I was lost about 20 minutes into it, even after McCoy went to the board and literally drew a graphic for the audience to explain what was going on. In short, an S&M murder case led back to Tom Everett Scott's governor character and his wife, and hinted at an interesting race next season (which will see the show on at a new day and time, Friday at 8 PM).

What did everyone else think?

This season, Law and Order was looking for a way to get some new energy and interest in the long-running NBC Emmy-winning series, so on the judicial end of the show, they promoted Sam Waterson's Jack McCoy to DA and cast Linus Roache as Assistant District Attorney Michael Cutter. Roache is one of those familiar faces that you've seen on other shows, maybe a movie or two, but here on Law and Order he's making you sit up and take notice. At least that's how it is for me. After watching the first two new episodes when the show returned recently, I wanted to know more about this guy. For starters, why did he remind me of a young Bobby Kennedy?

Well, it turns out that Linus Roache played Robert Kennedy in the mini-series, RFK. The Kennedy connection was even alluded to in last week's episode; at the end of the show, after McCoy had to defend his decision to prosecute overzealous New York City cops by taking the stand in open court, Roache's character, Cutter, gives him a tie pin that once belonged to RFK. With the last line of the show, Cutter says, "I found it on EBay."

Aidan Quinn, who was last seen in the anti-7th Heaven drama Book of Daniel, has joined the cast of FOX's Canterbury's Law, which stars Juliana Margulies. He will have a recurring role as Matt Furey, husband to Marguiles' character. Elizabeth Canterbury.

Now, if you have seen a preview of the show on the FOX website you're probably saying to yourself 'Wait, doesn't she have a husband already?'. Well, yes. It's Matthew Canterbury, played by Linus Roache. Only Linus, the show's producers and FOX broadcasting know the reasons for the re-casting. So goes television.

Linus Roache, who starred in NBC's Kidnapped, has joined Law and Order as an assistant district attorney. His character will replace Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston), who moves to serve as New York district attorney. McCoy (Waterston) replaces D.A. Arthur Branch, who was played by former real-life senator Fred Thompson. Thompson left the series to explore a possible presidential bid.

Roache also appeared in Canterbury's Law, a midseason pilot for FOX starring Juliana Margulies as a lawyer who doesn't mind bending the rules. It's unknown at this time whether or not Roache will appear in both series.

Roache's other credits include the movies Batman Begins and the TV movie RFK, in which he played Robert F. Kennedy.
