'30 Rock' - 'Lee Marvin vs. Derek Jeter' Recap

by Jane Boursaw, posted Apr 23rd 2010 11:40AM
(S04E17) "Thank you, Lemon, but my true present is that exquisite ensemble. You look like a prison weed dealer." - Jack to Liz, on her singles dodge ball outfit.

Jack, Jack, Jack! I guess there are worse things than having to choose between gorgeous Elizabeth Banks and beautiful Julianne Moore on your 51st birthday. I'm with Liz, though. Guys have it easy. They just get more distinguished and stately as they get older. Girls get flabby arms and wrinkles. " You're juggling two beautiful women while I have to pay to have kick balls whipped at me," says Liz. "This is gender inequity out the yang."

Will Ferrell on '30 Rock' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Apr 23rd 2010 1:20AM
Will Ferrell on '30 Rock'Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) is a talented, hard-working, independent woman. But on tonight's '30 Rock' (Thu., 8:30PM ET on NBC), she learns the dreadful secret of how she really got her job on network TV. Apparently, her network had previously aired an incredibly sexist show called 'Bitch Hunter.' The only way to recover from the awful show was to hire an actual woman to replace it. Thus, it turns out that Liz got her job through affirmative action.

Liz Lemon Cops a Jamaican Accent on '30 Rock' (VIDEO)

30 Rock, Liz LemonIf you ever want to trick someone into going to the dentist, just cop a Jamaican accent and start talking the funky talk like Liz Lemon on '30 Rock' (Thu., 9:30PM ET on NBC).

Actually, if we ever got a phone call like that, we'd hang up and call the cops. Then again, maybe that's how things roll in New York City, and we're just not hip enough to know it.

Liz Lemon Hallucinates on '30 Rock' (VIDEO)

by Jane Boursaw, posted Feb 12th 2010 1:15AM
30 Rock - Jon Hamm, Jason Sudeikis, Dean WintersNo surprise that Valentine's Day isn't all that great for Liz Lemon on '30 Rock' (Thurs., 9:30PM ET on NBC). She celebrates by having a root canal. But lo and behold, three of her former boyfriends show up in her hallucinatory anesthesia haze.

Oh well. Even if they weren't the real deal, at least we got our Jon Hamm fix, since 'Mad Men' won't be back until lord knows when (hopefully, July or August).

TV Squad Ten: Girl Crushes

by Kona Gallagher, posted Mar 13th 2009 10:02AM
brenda lee johnson the closerThere's a reason why when you watch The Mentalist, there are always subtle close ups of Simon Baker's eyes or of his mouth when he's talking. The producers know he's hot and they know women are watching. Between him, the cast of Friday Night Lights, and a whole other list of DILF's, there's a lot of male eye-candy on TV right now. But what about the women? Of course television is filled with hot chicks, but who do other women like to watch?

There are certain female characters who, when you watch them, you just want to hang out with. Either you think she'd be a good friend, or exciting to have around, or maybe you just kind of want to be her. This, my friends, is a Girl Crush. Here is my list of Top Ten TV Girl Crushes.

Larry King to appear on 30 Rock

by Brad Trechak, posted Nov 29th 2008 1:05PM
Larry KingIn the latest of a long line of celebrities to appear on 30 Rock this season, you can add CNN host Larry King. He joins a parade of celebrities with the same accomplishment including Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Aniston, Steve Martin and some of the cast of Night Court.

Granted, he's a celebrity that everyone has heard of, but isn't Larry King getting a little past his prime? It seems the the celebrity guest-stars are getting more obscure as the season progresses. By the end of the season, it'll be Kathy Griffin and the guy who used to play "Screech". Tina Fey herself is now a bigger star than most of the guests.

The storyline involves Larry interviewing Tracy Morgan's character on his show. It would be funny if he then proposes marriage to Liz Lemon.

Fortunately, the writing on 30 Rock is so top-notch that I think they could have Carrot Top as a guest and still make it a good show. Bring it on, Larry!

Sesame Street does 30 Rock - VIDEO

by Kona Gallagher, posted Nov 22nd 2008 11:02AM
sesame streetI remember watching Sesame Street when I was little, but I do not remember it being this awesome. We're used to celebrities appearing on the Street, but it's not very often that we get to see Muppets portraying our favorite TV characters. I for one, never knew that the denizens of Sesame Street were so good at impressions until I saw the Muppet version of Jack Donaghy. Oh, you read that right. Jack Donaghy.

Sesame Street has done a take on 30 Rock called "30 Rocks." In it, Liz Lemon, a lemon with glasses, has to figure out how to make sure that the 30 rocks she ordered for a sketch are all there. Jack (who, unfortunately no longer has a chin) comes out to help her with the solution, which consists of passing off the work load, "I'm the boss Lemon; you count."

The Oprah Shop goes online

by Allison Waldman, posted Nov 10th 2008 11:14AM
Oprah storeMy favorite moment in last week's 30 Rock, in which Oprah Winfrey made a guest turn -- and a good one -- was when Liz accepted a piece of Rhode Island salt water taffy from O. This lead to Oprah rattling off some of her "wonderful favorite things" for this year -- paisley tops, sweater capes, Calypso music, Chinese checkers, high-heeled flip-flops.

Well, you don't have to be Liz Lemon -- or wait for the annual Christmas show -- to check out Oprah's real faves. The Oprah Store is launching online this Friday. There's been a real store since last January located in Chicago across the street from the Harpo Studios, but this site, which will be an expansion of the mini-shop that's been online for a while, will capture the breadth and scope of the year-old brick and mortar store.

Palin comparison ... GOP VP choice looks like a bunch of TV characters

by Allison Waldman, posted Sep 1st 2008 5:25PM
Sarah PLast Friday, Senator John McCain shocked the world by announcing that little-known Alaska Governor Sarah Palin was his choice as vice presidential candidate for the Republican party. If you were like me, you couldn't help but notice that Sarah Palin -- a very attractive, 44-year-old mother of five -- looked an awful lot like some familiar TV faces, like 30 Rock's Liz Lemon.

In fact, at least one Hollywood writer recognized in Sarah Palin's being plucked from virtual obscurity was like one of his creations. Rod Lurie, the writer/producer of Commander in Chief, joked that he and Gena Davis should be asking for royalties if Palin emerges as McCain's VEEP, especially if she becomes president like Davis's character did on that ABC drama series.

Here are the main TV characters that come to mind when you think about Palin:

30 Rock: The Collection

30 Rock shirt(S02E03) "I could never pay an English-speaking woman that little - they'd starve!" - Jack, about his household staff

This year many of us here at TV Squad have been featuring our favorite quotes at the start of each review. Most of the time it's pretty easy to pick out the best line (on a show like Bionic Woman they stand out), but it's not the easiest thing to do on a comedy like 30 Rock. There's always at least six laugh out loud lines and about 5 lines that aren't hysterical but are bizarrely clever. That was true of tonight's episode too, and I hope you agree the above comment was one of the better ones.

Tina Fey to live blog 30 Rock season finale tonight

by Bob Sassone, posted Apr 26th 2007 12:01PM

Tina FeyFirst of all, I didn't even realize that tonight was the season finale of 30 Rock (or the first day of May sweeps, for that matter). It's hard to keep track of this new world where various shows end their seasons in various months.

Anyway, show star Tina Fey is going to live blog the season finale at NBC.com. It starts at 9:30pm Eastern. You can go to the site now and leave questions for Fey and she'll answer some of them.

Now, I wonder if Baldwin asking to get out of his contract (in fact, he doesn't want to do television anymore, period) was timed this week for the season finale. Does Baldwin have a contract beyond this season? I would assume so, since NBC has said they are not going to let him out his contract. Maybe Baldwin should do the blog with Fey. Imagine the questions he'd get.

Update: As reader Ender mentions in the comments, the show starts at 9pm, so maybe this isn't going to be a live blog "during the show" but immediately following the show.
