'Love Bites'It's been reported that NBC has officially pulled the plug on its romantic anthology series, 'Love Bites.' The final episode of nine will air Thursday night.

The hotly anticipated series was plagued by production difficulties and casting issues and never really caught fire with viewers.

Originally scheduled to launch last fall, NBC eventuallly debuted it as a summer series, and ratings struggled from the beginning.

'Love Bites' was created by 'Sex and the City' writer Cindy Chupack, who stepped down as showrunner to a consulting producer position during production.

Jeff Tries to Fake a Foot Fetish For His Girlfriend on 'Love Bites' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 8th 2011 5:59AM
'Love Bites' - 'TMI'It's actually kind of surprising that no one seems willing to give 'Love Bites' (Thu., 10PM ET on NBC) a chance. It premiered with 2.64 million viewers and has since dropped below 2 million, which means most viewers don't even know what a fun little romantic comedy NBC is giving us each week.

It's just the kind of light summer fare that usually thrives, or is it that we don't like our light shows without crimes to solve or patients to save. Either way, we're at least enjoying the creative blend of anthology and ongoing narrative with cleverly interweaving plotlines tying everything together.

This week opened with a couple where it's revealed that the woman, Bridget, has a fetish for men in uniform. To help her feel less weird about it, her boyfriend Jeff pretends to have a foot fetish. Only then he had to actually try to fetish her feet, as he put it.

Isaiah Mustafa Cheers Up His Fellow Astronaut on 'Love Bites' (VIDEO)

Isaiah Mustafa, 'Love Bites''Love Bites' (Thu., 10PM ET on NBC) continues to be a fun diversion for summer, like a fluffy romantic comedy where you know every beat of the plot, but it manages to pull you along regardless. With it's anthology format revolving around a core group of characters and plethora of guest stars, it's reminding us more and more of 'Love Boat' each week.

This time around, we got a strange little story set up in space where somehow Ken Jeong is allowed to be an astronaut. More expectedly, he provided a little bit of comic relief as well. Eddie McClintock ('Warehouse 13') was convinced his girlfriend was cheating on him, but he learned that her picture was cheating on him as well with Jeong's character in the bathroom.

love bites nbcNBC's summertime romantic comedy 'Love Bites' (Thu., 10PM ET on NBC) is still truckin' on.

This week's episode, 'Keep on Truckin,' saw Annie (Becki Newton) mistaking handsome bachelor Matt (Matt Long) for her blind date.

A very pregnant Annie goes on to make a bigger fool of herself by denying Matt a kiss, only to find out that he was reaching in not to kiss her, but to help her fix her "detachable breast."

Working Title Films That Would (And Wouldn't) Work on the Small Screen

by Aimee Deeken, posted Apr 1st 2010 8:00AM
Renee Zellweger in Bridget Jones's DiaryThanks to the launch of Working Title Television (WTTV) last month, NBC Universal will glean a few TV-show ideas from movies created by its subsidiary Working Title Films. The UK production company is behind such Oscar crushes as 'Atonement,' Frost/Nixon' and 'A Serious Man,' and fan-faves 'Nanny McPhee,' 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' and 'Pride & Prejudice.'

NBC Universal (which could use some fresh programming following the prime-time Leno debacle) will distribute WTTV content, starting with the comedy 'Love Bites' -- a "romantic anthology" reminiscent of Working Title Films' 'Love Actually' -- starring Jordana Spiro ('My Boys') and 'Ugly Betty's' Becki Newton. Execs in the joint venture announced last month they will also adapt the 'Bridget Jones' franchise for the small screen.

Having looked at the rest of Working Title's 100-plus film repertoire, we've got some thoughts of our own on three movies that would make good episodic programming -- and two that wouldn't.

Becki Newton Chomps on 'Love Bites'

by Brad Trechak, posted Feb 22nd 2010 10:00AM
Becki NewtonFresh off the cancellation of 'Ugly Betty', Becki Newton has already found her next big project. She will be starring in 'Love Bites', an anthology series on NBC about dating and relationships similar to the classic 'Love, American Style'. Unlike her manipulative Amanda Tanen character, Newton's new character will be an "optimistic, infectiously bubbly social worker who is a virgin".

'Ugly Betty' started off strong but seemed to meander in the later seasons. Once it was relegated to Friday night (usually where science fiction and fantasy is sent to die), it was already pretty much done. What prompted the strong start was a memorable cast of characters, including Amanda Tanen as played by Becki Newton.

It's good for Ms. Newton to play someone radically different than Amanda to prevent typecasting. Granted, 'Love Bites' sounds at first like a series involving vampire romance. For Ms. Newton's sake, let's hope 'Love Bites' doesn't, well, suck.
