Bear Catches an Eel With Ancient Maori Fishing Technique on 'Man vs. Wild' (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Aug 22nd 2011 4:00PM
Bear Grylls fashions a fishing pole out of flax on 'Man vs Wild''Man vs Wild' (Fridays, 9PM on Discovery) is the type of show on which it's not surprising to hear a phrase like, "and that rotting carcass I found earlier will come in handy." Bear Grylls used the stink of a rotting rabbit carcass as bait to catch something that was actually edible.

Grylls used the rabbit and flax to fashion a sort of fishing pole to catch an eel. Why flax? "When the eel bites down on those," he said, pointing to a partially shredded bit of the flax, "because their teeth face backwards, they get their teeth stuck in these strands." He then rubbed the flax in the rabbit guts to lure the eel.

Bear Grylls and Jake Gyllenhaal Strip Down in Freezing Temperatures on 'Man vs. Wild' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 12th 2011 9:40AM
You first heard about it a few weeks ago, but now you finally get to see Jake Gyllenhaal take his shirt off on 'Man vs. Wild' (Mon., 9PM ET on Discovery). Well, there was more to it than that.

He and Bear Grylls both shed their shirts in sub-freezing temperatures to keep them as dry as possible while they crossed a river. It's a far cry from a shirtless Gyllenhaal in the deserts of 'Prince of Persia.'

"I joined up for this, right?" Gyllenhaal lamented as he stripped. They made the crossing fairly quickly, making us cold just from watching them in the freezing water with the cameraman trying to keep the lens free of snow and ice.

'Deadliest Catch,' 'Man vs. Wild' Becoming Video Games

by Jason Hughes, posted Oct 26th 2009 5:30PM
Deadliest CatchBattling the elements in the Discovery Channel's 'Man vs. Wild' and braving the tumultuous seas of 'Deadliest Catch' are no longer limited to the imagination, as both popular shows are heading to stores as video games.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Discovery Communications is working with video game publisher Crave to adapt both series. The 'Deadliest Catch' video game is expected to hit shelves for Playstation 3, Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS by spring 2010. The 'Man v. Wild' video game will be available on those systems, as well as X-Box 360, but isn't expected until toward the end of 2011.

What to Watch Wednesday, Aug. 13

'Project Runway'
(9PM, Bravo)
Tonight the designers need to put away the peacock feathers, the plastic cups and, special note to you, Stella, the leathuh, as special guest judge Brooke Shields helps decide who can fashion the best business attire outfit.

Creating stylin' working girl wear should pose a major challenge to most of the crew, as their design sensibilities tend to be more outrageous than 9-to-5 office gear-y.

Will the stress have Suede referring to himself in the third person all night? What new, uninspired catchphrase will the challenge spark from Siriano-wannabe Blayne? And will Stella go ahead and make a leather business suit from Hell? All signs point to yes ...

What to Watch Wednesday, Aug. 6

'Tyler Perry's House of Payne'
(9PM, TBS)
Calvin and Miranda ('Cosby Show' alum Keshia Knight Pulliam) are headed to the altar tonight, but it's going to take a lot of Payne to get there. Four episodes worth, actually, as the couple's rocky love match is recounted in a two-hour block that concludes with the series' 100th episode (9:30).

The festivities kick off with the fellas planning a wild bachelor soiree for Calvin, despite his promise to Miranda that he'd call the whole thing off. But that's not the end of their pre-wedding woes, as they spend their rehearsal dinner deflecting unsolicited advice on marriage from the other Paynes, right before Miranda passes out.

She makes it to the church on time, but there are a few more getting-hitched hitches before the couple makes the final stroll down the aisle ... and one of them may or may not involve that little fainting spell.

NCIS: Friends and Lovers

by Brett Love, posted Feb 14th 2007 7:27AM
Ziva and McGee - NCIS(S04E15) After the big revelations last week regarding the ongoing case, I fully expected a stand-alone episode that mostly ignored it this week. And that is pretty much what was delivered. It's ok though, because while it was open and shut, this was an interesting case.

What really sold the mystery for me was the way it was presented. The Club One angle worked on a couple different levels. I would have said it was worth it just for the scene with McGee, Abby, Ziva, and Lee making their entrance, but there was much more.

The exclusivity of the club put the team at a disadvantage because they couldn't investigate as they normally would. It had the bonus of putting us in the same situation, because we couldn't get a feel for the suspects.
