'Big Love' Creators Acknowledge Their Soapy Fourth Season

by Danny Gallagher, posted Mar 10th 2010 9:30PM
The cast of If you found the fourth season of HBO's polygamist drama 'Big Love' a little heavy on the soapy side, you're not alone. The show's creators saw the same thing.

Even though the show's creators Will Scheffer and Mark V. Olsen credited themselves for creating a challenging season for the show's main character Bill Henrickson, they also see the need for some tweaking for their audience.

"We think the show has been the richer for having such a large ensemble," said Scheffer, "but we also feel we're at a breaking point. We've got to pare it down and refocus."

Do you agree with Scheffer's assumptions about the fourth season?

HBO Renews 'Big Love' for Fifth Season

by Allison Waldman, posted Feb 4th 2010 9:46AM
big_love_casino_hboThe television gods have spoken. Okay, not really. But the people in power at HBO have had their say and 'Big Love' will be back for a fifth season. Ten more episodes have been ordered as the fourth season continues to unfold. Hallelujah! The story of the Hendricksons goes on and on.

Unlike some other HBO drama series, 'Big Love' has not been a sky-rocket. It's been more a slow boil, gradually picking up fans and followers as the show evolves. Perhaps it was the very nature of the situation, a polygamist family living in plain sight in modern day Utah while keeping their way of life a closely guarded secret.

Bill and his three wives and passel of children try to keep to the principle while blending with suburbia, but they're continually pulled into controversy based on their individual pasts and the choices they've made. It all adds up to great drama.

Big love family
The answer to one of last season's big questions on Big Love was answered the other day when the cast and creators of the HBO drama met the press at the Paley Festival in L.A. You may recall that a certain prophet by the name of Roman Grant was left for dead after Joey Hendrickson had reached his breaking point. When I wrote about the season finale, I wondered if we had actually seen the last of Roman?

You don't have to wait till next fall for the answer, after the jump I'll tell you what executive producer Mark V. Olsen revealed, and it's not only about Roman. There's big news about Big Love.
