'Raising Hope' Stars Tease Sabrina's Reveal, Heading to Vegas & Dream Guest Stars

by Maggie Furlong, posted Sep 27th 2011 8:15PM

We've gotten cozy hanging out in the Chance house on 'Raising Hope,' but tonight's episode (Tues., Sept. 27, 9:30PM ET on Fox) has the crew moving on up.

See, Sabrina doesn't really have to work at the grocery store. Truth is, she comes from money -- like sick mansions and fancy yachts kind of money -- and this week the Chance family will get to meet her crazy, gun-toting father Cap, played by the fabulously funny Stephen Root.

I visited the show while they were on location at Cap's mansion to see everyone all dressed up (Virginia's wearing lipstick! Jimmy and Burt are in short-sleeved button-downs!) and to find out what we'll learn about wealthy Sabrina's past.

What Will 'Raising Hope' Star and Nominee Martha Plimpton Wear to the Emmys?

by Maggie Furlong, posted Sep 17th 2011 6:20PM
Martha PlimptonEven though 'Raising Hope' star Martha Plimpton has been in this business for 30 years -- yep, 30 years! -- her Emmy nod for Lead Actress in a Comedy this year is only the second Emmy nomination of her career. (Her first one was almost a decade ago for her guest starring role on 'Law & Order: SVU' in 2002.)

She's had recent TV turns on 'The Good Wife,' 'Fringe' and 'How to Make It In America,' but now that she's on TV each week playing Virginia, the matriarch of the quick-witted but desperately average Chance family, we mostly see her in jeans and a t-shirt or her character's maid uniform.

Not exactly glamorous. So with TV's big night fast-approaching, I was curious to find out what she was planning on wearing to the awards (Sun., Sept. 18, 8PM ET/5PM PT on Fox).

"Oh I don't know yet. I can't answer that yet ... I don't know," she said on the L.A. set of 'Raising Hope.' But I kept pressing ...

Martha Plimpton Details Cloris Leachman's 'Antics' on the 'Raising Hope' Set (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Aug 19th 2011 2:40PM
Martha Plimpton of 'Raising Hope' on 'Access Hollywood Live'We learned a few things about Cloris Leachman from Martha Plimpton's appearance on 'Access Hollywood Live' (weekdays, syndicated on NBC) Friday. She likes the liquor. She may lick you. And if she doesn't like your hair, she's not afraid to tell you. And Kit Hoover loved every bit of that. "I want to hang with her," said Hoover. "I want to go out for cocktails with her."

Plimpton said cocktails would be a good idea -- Bloody Marys in the morning and something with vodka in it for later in the day. Hoover asked about Leachman's "antics" on the 'Raising Hope' set. "It's just never ending," said Plimpton. "She likes to lick people. She loves to lick our director's head."

'Raising Hope': Maw Maw Bakes Some Special Christmas 'Cookies' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Dec 8th 2010 12:03AM
'Raising Hope': Maw Maw Bakes Some Special Christmas 'Cookies'It's Christmastime on 'Raising Hope.' And on the new episode (Tue., 9PM ET on Fox), Maw Maw (Cloris Leachman) tries her hand at spreading some holiday cheer, via baking a batch of her special Christmas cookies. Only problem: She didn't "bake" them and they're not "cookies," per se.

Jimmy (Lucas Neff) is the first to notice the problem. " ... Um," he says. "These aren't cookies -- they're dirt clods ... with little rocks in them." Meanwhile, her indulgent granddaughter Virginia (Martha Plimpton) tries to smooth things over, via the time-tested "it's Christmas; everyone try to get along" excuse.

As the family members gaze upon the dirt/rock "snickerdoodles" in horror, Virginia provides some not-so-subtle encouragement: "Oh, let her her have this; it's the holidays." True: it is the holidays. And hey -- things could be worse. After all, in the spirit of love and joy, Maw Maw did use little rocks, not big ones. So she's trying, at least ...

Jason Lee Guest Starring on 'Raising Hope' - Set Visit Interviews (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Nov 29th 2010 4:30PM
Jason Lee on This week, 'Raising Hope' goes rock 'n' roll. Like washed up '80s hairband rock 'n' roll.

Guest star Jason Lee -- who starred in creator Greg Garcia's last hit 'My Name Is Earl' -- is playing Smokey Floyd, a has-been rocker who also happens to be Burt's (Garret Dillahunt) musical idol. He's in town "headlining" Grocery-Palooza (Tues., 9PM ET on Fox), if that gives you any indication of how far he's fallen from fame. Need more proof? Just check out Lee's look: that tattered shirt, those python-print pleather pants, that receding hairline and mullet combo. He's almost unrecognizable, so it makes sense that he chose to do this interview in character as Smokey Floyd.

I caught up with old Smokey (who one star says "looks like Bon Jovi's grandpa"), Dillahunt and the rest of the gang at 'Raising Hope' to find out what Grocery-Palooza is all about and how the aging rockstar shakes things up.

EXCLUSIVE: Details About Amy Sedaris' Guest Spot on 'Raising Hope' (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Nov 10th 2010 3:30PM
Amy SedarisAmy Sedaris is one of those rare women who can light up a room and make you laugh out loud, even when she's playing a completely horrible character.

Best known as Jerri Blank, the middle-aged ex-junkie in her so-wrong-it's-hysterical 'Strangers With Candy,' Sedaris has popped up on some very fun TV shows recently, including 'The Middle,' 'The Closer' and an upcoming stint on 'Royal Pains.'

Next stop: 'Raising Hope,' Fox's freshman hit sitcom (Tuesdays, 9PM ET).

The Show Girl Talks 'Human Target,' 'Outrageous Food' & 'Raising Hope' (VIDEO)

by Maggie Furlong, posted Nov 5th 2010 10:00AM
Human Target'Human Target' is back and sexier than ever. With two new ladies joining Chance and the crew -- one as a beautiful billionaire boss and the other as a tough-talking team member -- the return of one of last year's most intriguing new series is definitely something to sing about. So, that's exactly what star Chi McBride did for me right here.

I also chat with Tom Pizzica, 'The Next Food Network Star' runner-up who has a Big Chef-worthy new show called 'Outrageous Food.' (Does the idea of a 105-pound hamburger make anyone else a little nauseous?)

Then I stop by the set of Fox's new hit sitcom 'Raising Hope' to get some fan questions answered and uncover a big change coming. You think Jimmy can't grocery store stalk Sabrina any more than he already does? Wait until you see this.

Got questions? E-mail me TV questions at TheTVShowGirl@aol.com and I'll try to get you answers on the show. -- By Maggie Furlong

'Raising Hope': A Family Picture Is Worth a Thousand Curse Words (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Oct 13th 2010 7:49AM
'Raising Hope': A Family Picture Is Worth a Thousand Curse WordsTaking a family photo is always kind of a drag. Little kids are running around and not paying attention to the photographer. Someone invariably blinks or looks away from the camera, right when the picture is shot. Plus, there's the stress of having all your relatives in one room at the same time.

And this is what happens if you have a normal family. But the pain is increased a thousandfold if you're part of a completely dysfunctional family ... like, say, the Chance clan on 'Raising Hope' (Tue., 9PM ET on Fox).

Losing a Baby (and the Audience) on 'Raising Hope' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Oct 6th 2010 1:24AM
Losing a Baby (and the Audience) on 'Raising Hope''Raising Hope' follows the adventures of the Chance family -- specifically, Mr. Jimmy Chance (Lucas Neff), who must raise an infant daughter with the aid of his pretty useless relatives. As we may have mentioned before, we here at 'TV Squad' have some issues with this particular sitcom. And the latest episode (Tue., 9PM ET on Fox) didn't do much to raise our "hopes."

The thing about 'Raising Hope' is that every episode has the same premise. Although the Chances are supposed to take care of baby Hope, they're actually really bad at it! Guffaws and chuckles are the intended result. But everything is pitched a little too broadly for our taste.

Lucas Neff, Martha Plimpton Cast in Greg Garcia Comedy for Fox

by Jane Murphy, posted Nov 12th 2009 5:00PM
'Seinfeld' introduced "fugitive sex" to prime time (George Costanza couldn't get enough). Leave it to my 'My Name Is Earl' creator Greg Garcia to bring together casual sex and capital crime.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Garcia's upcoming Fox pilot, 'Keep Hope Alive,' concerns Jimmy (played by new name Lucas Neff), a first-time dad who'll need a village to raise his tot. Jimmy barely knows the mom, who has somehow ended up on Death Row, and his own youthful mother (played by Martha Plimpton) doesn't want to be anyone's granny.

Hey, it's a Studio 60 reunion (kinda)!

by Bob Sassone, posted Dec 10th 2008 2:26PM
Matthew PerryWe told you a while back about Matthew Perry's new Showtime series, The End of Steve. He'll play an arrogant local talk show host who is going thorugh some changes in his life. Now some other cast members for the series have been announced.

Nate Torrence, who costarred with Perry on the short-lived Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (he played Dylan), has joined the cast and will play Perry's assistant. Other people signed on for the show include Martha Plimpton (she'll play Perry's producer), Eddie Shin (he'll play Perry's boss), and Kiele Sanchez, who Lost fans will remember as the much-loved character of Nikki, who is currently still buried on the beach somewhere. She also starred in one of my favorite sitcoms of the past ten years, ABC's Married to the Kellys.

Oh, besides Studio 60, Perry also starred in a show called Friends that lasted a few years or so.
