Justin Bartha Had an Awkward Experience With Matthew McConaughey (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted May 25th 2011 4:45AM
Justin Bartha, 'Chelsea Lately'A lot of times actors will do prep work for an upcoming film role. Sometimes it can be pretty intense, but for Justin Bartha and Bradley Cooper, prepping for 'Failure to Launch' looked like it was going to be just a whole lot of fun, according to Bartha on 'Chelsea Lately' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on E!). After all, they simply needed to hang out with Matthew McConaughey to develop a sense of friendship.

Who wouldn't want to hang out with Matthew McConaughey? The guy oozes laid back and cool from his pores. As expected, he was shirtless when they arrived, so things were off to a good start. In fact, he was wearing only a pair of "little sweat shorts," as Bartha described them.

The problem was that he wasn't wearing anything under the shorts, and Bartha wound up sitting opposite him during their hang session. "So it's like the whole time I'm just staring at McConaugh-nuts," he explained. As such, Bartha was understandably kind of quiet and clearly not nearly as comfortable as McConaughey.

Matthew McConaughey Laughs About Trace Adkins' Ex-Wife Shooting Him (VIDEO)

Matthew McConaughey Visits 'Late Late'It all started with Craig Ferguson's snake mug. Matthew McConaughey couldn't stop staring at it on 'The Late Late Show' (weeknights, 12:37AM ET on CBS), due to its missing fang.

The host claimed that Trace Adkins had punched it. This segued into a story familiar to them both: Adkins' second wife shot him (through his heart and both lungs) in 1994. McConaughey couldn't help laughing at the very idea.

"I've made some women mad in my life, but none of them shot me yet," said Ferguson. McConaughey said that he has "a great woman who doesn't bring too much [beep] high-maintenance into my life."

As is his way, Ferguson chided the actor for cussing -- by using a string of profanities.

Matthew McConaughey Offers Opinion on 'Celebrity Apprentice'On 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show' (weekdays, syndicated), Matthew McConaughey admitted to being a fan of reality TV, especially 'Celebrity Apprentice.' McConaughey weighed in with his opinion on the competition's strongest players, the relationship between Star Jones and NeNe Leakes, and the ever-loopy Gary Busey.

McConaughey identified two players in particular with the potential to go far. "I think, who looks like they could be good at it, is going to be that John Rich," he said. "Star Jones is good at it. She's a diva, but she's good at it. Even when she's not team leader, she's taking control back there."

Matthew McConaughey Talks Spanish on 'Lopez Tonight'Matthew McConaughey has been visiting the late-night shows to promote 'The Lincoln Lawyer.' But only on 'Lopez Tonight' (weeknights, 12AM ET on TBS) did he take the opportunity to show off his Spanish-speaking skills.

He explained (in Spanish) that the town in which he was born (Uvalde, Texas) is 82 percent Mexican. And all his older brothers' friends -- male and female -- were Mexican. "That's where I learned a little bit of Spanish," he said.

The studio audience cheered him on, and George Lopez was impressed. "Lemme tell you something, if I wasn't high, I could've sworn I was -- seeing Matthew McConaughey talk Spanish!"

Matthew McConaughey's 80-Year-Old Mom Flashed Photographers at 'Lincoln Lawyer' Premiere (VIDEO)

Matthew McConaughey's Mom Flashes PhotographersMatthew McConaughey invited his entire extended family ("about 60 people") to last week's premiere of 'The Lincoln Lawyer'. Perhaps in an effort to stand out from the rest of the McConaughey crowd, the actor's 80-year-old mother flashed her legs -- and her control-top underwear -- for photographers.

The host of 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (weeknights, 12AM ET on ABC) shared the photographic proof of Kay McCabe standing next to her (more modest) son, McConaughey's eldest brother Rooster.

McConaughey said he didn't know about it until his publicist showed him the photo the next morning. He didn't seem surprised. Jimmy Kimmel quipped, "I see where you get it from: She doesn't wear pants. You don't wear shirts. It's like a nudist colony."

Matthew McConaughey Paid Tom Hanks $100 for 'Babysitting' His Son (VIDEO)

Matthew McConaughey Talks Tom Hanks on 'Tonight'Matthew McConaughey says his toddler son is obsessed with two things: "anything that flies in the air" and 'Toy Story'. "'Where's Woody?'" he asks his father daily, McConaughey explained on 'The Tonight Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC). At least Levi's parents can spread his viewing habits over three films.

And given McConaughey's Hollywood connections, he can thank the films' stars personally. "I run into Tom Hanks Oscar evening. I go up and slip him a $100. He said, 'What's this for?' I said, 'Trust me, I owe you a lot more than that for the amount of time you been babysitting my son Levi.'" So, Woody is accounted for, but the 'Lincoln Lawyer' star will need to track down Buzz Lightyear's Tim Allen too.

Trace Adkins, 'The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson'Country singer Trace Adkins was on 'The Late Late Show' (Weeknights, 12:37AM ET on CBS) to let Craig Ferguson know about something very important. Well, admittedly it isn't the reason he went on 'The Late Late Show,' but does anyone ever really get to the reason they're on Ferguson's show? It's more about non-sequiturs and just having a good time.

But things got serious when Ferguson mentioned Matthew McConaughey and stumbled over the pronunciation of it.

"Pronounce his name correctly," Adkins warned. "He gets mad if you don't."

Matt Damon Talks Ben Affleck on 'Late Show'When Matt Damon visited the 'Late Show' (weeknights, 11:35PM ET on CBS), he talked more about other famous actors than himself. David Letterman asked him about buddy Ben Affleck's recent success with 'The Town.' "I'm thrilled for the guy. I'm not at all surprised," said Damon. "Now I'm kinda relegated to emailing him, asking him for jobs," he joked.

Before the film premiered, Damon asked Affleck if he was nervous. Affleck told him: "I wrote it, and I directed it, and I starred in it, so you know I can't really distance myself from it if it stinks. I'm kinda on the hook for this one." The host then persuaded Damon to do his "specialty impression" of Matthew McConaughey.

Matthew McConaughey Developing New FX Comedy

by Mike Moody, posted Jun 8th 2010 10:40AM
Matthew McConaugheyWell alright, alright, alright ... Matthew McConaughey is developing a wacky new comedy for FX set in the beachfront city of Malibu.

The single-camera series is tentatively titled 'Kick-Ass Militia,' reports Deadline, and it centers on two very different brothers -- one is a cult leader, the other is a survivalist -- butting heads in a shared compound surrounded by sand and surf.

The show was developed from an idea by McConaughey pal JR Reed. 'Meet the Fockers' scribe Marc Hyman is writing and executive producing the pilot with McConaughey.

'Kick-Ass' is the third dude-oriented TV project from McConaughey's J.K. Livin Productions following Fox's upcoming 'Rooster Tales,' an animated series based on the life of his brother, and 'Jonah and the Whale,' a coming of age series set up at Starz.

Jimmy Kimmel, Handsome Club, Ben Affleck, Jennifer GarnerOne of the funniest things we've seen in a while is Jimmy Kimmel's Handsome Club bit on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live' (weeknights, 12:05AM ET on ABC).

You might have caught part of it during the Oscars, but seriously, find the full video and watch it; well worth the nine minutes or so. How he managed to round up all those celebrities is beyond us. Then again, he IS Jimmy Kimmel, president of the Handsome Club. But probably not for long.
