'What Not to Wear': The New Career Revitalizer?

by Chris Harnick, posted Nov 26th 2010 2:00PM
Stacy London, Clinton KellyMake no mistake: 'What Not to Wear' is quality TV. Yes, we're referring to the show about two sassy stylists, Stacy London and Clinton Kelly, helping fashion disasters.

The series is known for taking the trashy, the lazy or the out-of-touch dresser and remaking them with modern haircuts, make-up techniques and flattering clothes.

But it's also now responsible for reinvigorating acting careers as well. Proof? Look no further than '80s and '90s stars Mindy Cohn and Mayim Bialik.

Hey, more than one counts as a trend!

Mayim Bialik Promoted to Series Regular on 'Big Bang Theory,' Long Wait for 'The Walking Dead' Season 2 and More

by Chris Harnick, posted Nov 16th 2010 1:30PM
Mayim BialikThe sun is surely going to shine for Mayim Bialik. The former 'Blossom' star has been promoted to series regular on CBS's 'The Big Bang Theory.'

Bialik's deal is for this season only and does not call for her to appear in every episode, Deadline Hollywood reports. The previously recurring guest star first debuted at the end of last season and has popped up a handful of times this season.

This move is similar to one made earlier this year with recurring guest star Melissa Rauch. She's also signed as a regular for this season and not contracted for all episodes.

Since 'Blossom,' Bialik has appeared on many shows, including 'Curb Your Enthusiasm,' 'Bones' and most recently 'The Secret Life of the American Teenager.'

In other TV news ...

TLC has renewed 'Freaky Eaters.' The show, about people plagued with strange eating habits, averaged 1.2 million viewers during its first season. Past subjects have included a man with a cheeseburger addiction and a woman who only eats sweets. Look for the new season next summer. [Live Feed]

Lindsay Price will guest star on 'CSI: New York.' The 'Eastwick' alumna will play Kate, a woman who bonds with Det. Lindsay Monroe Messer (Anna Belknap) after her traumatic past comes back to haunt her. [Entertainment Weekly]

Fans of 'The Walking Dead' may have to wait until October 2011 for a season 2. AMC's October Fearfest programing served as a great tool to launch the series, and the network is hoping to replicate that success. Plus, season 2 hasn't begun filming yet. [Live Feed]

Soulmates on 'The Big Bang Theory'You would think that online dating -- with its use of computers, the Internet, and mathematical algorithms -- would appeal to a fairly geeky guy like Sheldon (Jim Parsons). But if you thought that, you might be wrong. On 'The Big Bang Theory' (Mon., 9:30PM ET on CBS), Sheldon's friends create an Internet dating profile for him. But conflict -- followed by possible romance -- is the end result.

Blossom Has a 'Big Bang Theory' on Love

by Kim Potts, posted Mar 29th 2010 9:25AM
At last, Sheldon Cooper is getting a girlfriend, and she's a very familiar face to TV fans.

'Blossom' star Mayim Bialik has signed on for a recurring role on CBS' 'The Big Bang Theory,' in which she'll play a potential love interest for the socially backward, but adorkable Sheldon (Emmy nominee Jim Parsons).

Bialik's character, Victoria, will be introduced in the May 24 finale of 'Big Bang.' Victoria is described as the female equivalent of nerdy Sheldon, and the potential love match is made when the two meet on eHarmony.

Sheldon Cooper May Get a 'Big Bang'

by Brad Trechak, posted Mar 27th 2010 1:00PM
The Big Bang TheoryIt seems that the producers of 'The Big Bang Theory' have decided it's time for Jim Parson's character of Sheldon Cooper to have a girlfriend. Mayim Bialik will appear on the season finale of the sitcom as Sheldon's date, a potentially recurring role.

This has serious shark-jumping disaster potential. Sheldon has been repeatedly shown in the past as having zero interest in a romantic relationship. It's one of the hallmarks of the character. He's even rejected Danica McKellar.

On the other hand, the major event could be him simply feeling his age and wishing to procreate his genius. He'll probably run out of other options such as cloning. Also, Bialik's character is described as a female version of Sheldon, perhaps she's seeking a "brain-only" relationship, too.

Still, it does seem a bit like selling out. Romantic relationships are in every sitcom, but I was hoping 'The Big Bang Theory' wouldn't succumb to sitcom peer pressure and keep some of the elements that made it unique. We'll see how this change of character is executed before any final judgments are made.

'Blossom' Cast: Where Are They Now?

by Kim Potts, posted Feb 16th 2010 4:00PM

Blossom where are they now
ABC Family announced recently that 'Blossom' alum Joey Lawrence and 'Sabrina the Teenage Witch' star Melissa Joan Hart will star in an upcoming sitcom, 'Melissa & Joey,' about a politician (Hart) who hires a manny (Lawrence) to take care of her live-in niece and nephew.

The duo already co-starred in a very successful made-for-TV ABC Family movie, 'My Fake Fiance,' last year, and both are also past 'Dancing With the Stars' contenders, but we were wondering ... what else has former teen pin-up Lawrence and the rest of his 'Blossom' buddies been up to since their NBC sitcom left the airwaves in 1995?

Mayim Bialik talks about her faith and her return to acting

saving grace mayim bialik
I suppose if you want to be cynical, you could say that Mayim Bialik is in the midst of a comeback, with several recent television roles, including guest stints on Bones, Secret Life of the American Teenager, and now, Saving Grace. However, it's not as though the erstwhile star of Blossom has spent the last fifteen years sitting around waiting for the phone to ring. After the series' end, she attended UCLA, got married, had two children, and even earned her PhD last year.

Ms. (er, Dr.) Bialik has indeed been busy, but she is now looking to make her way back into Hollywood. She's guest-starring on Saving Grace tonight as Esther, a Hasidic Jewish mother of seven, whose own mother is found murdered in a field full of dead cows. I spoke with Mayim about Saving Grace, the lasting legacy of Blossom, and how she hopes people see her today.

Here's that What Not To Wear/Blossom crossover you never asked for

by Annie Wu, posted May 21st 2009 2:26PM
What Not To WearOkay, so it's not a legit crossover, but it's more fun if you think of it that way. Blossom star Mayim Bialik is getting a makeover on the season premiere of TLC's What Not To Wear (new episodes return May 29th). Post-sitcom-fame motherhood has left her a little frumpy and hiding behind shapeless hair, and her friends and family want her to do something about it. I'm sure whatever catty nonsense the hosts subject her to won't be as embarrassing as that time I was watching an episode and suddenly realized I was wearing the same thing as Clinton Kelly.
