Meditations in an Emergency
Emmy-winning writer let go from Mad Men
by Allison Waldman, posted Oct 12th 2009 1:38PM
Last month, Mad Men was celebrating winning a slew of Emmys. One of them was for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, the episode entitled "Meditations In An Emergency." When creator Matthew Weiner went onto the stage to grab the Emmy, with him was Kater Gordon, the co-writer of that episode. Today, Kater Gordon was let go from Mad Men. Are you shocked? Apparently, the industry press is. Gordon had risen from personal assistant to writer's assistant to member of the writing staff. After the Emmy, you would think that she was in like Flynn.
However, something must have gone awry or why has she been given her walking papers? And if you think it's not a dismissal, listen to this announcement from the show:
Lots of people are having Mad Men parties tonight

So how are you celebrating the season finale of Mad Men tonight? I'm doing it the same way I do it every single Sunday night at 10, with a Mad Men party! Of course, my party consists of me and an alcoholic beverage, but still!
There are a lot of people who having parties tonight, including the cool ladies over at Basket of Kisses, who are throwing a bash at Phoenix Park in New York City. Noir Bar at the Charles Hotel in Cambridge, MA is having a season finale party, too, with retro drinks and snacks and even a lookalike contest with prizes. I bet there are a lot of bars in your local area that are having parties as well, so I'd check if you feel like dressing up and going out instead of being plopped on your couch tonight.
So, what's going to happen in the Mad Men season finale?

While we continue to wait for creator Matthew Weiner and some of the actors of Mad Men to re-sign for a third season of the show (really, I'm not worried at all, it will happen), let's talk about this Sunday's second season finale of the show, titled "Meditations In An Emergency."Don is in California, being more Dick than Don, playing house with Anna Draper and baptizing himself in the waters of the Pacific. I think the big question for the season finale is what exactly is Don going to do? Is he going to stay out in California, running away from his responsibilities and change his name again, like he did after Korea? Or is Anna going to convince him to go back to his life in New York, back to Betty and his kids?
And what about Betty? Will she take him back, or has she become a woman now, finally, and on to the next chapter in her life?
