by Jason Hughes, posted Nov 21st 2011 2:00AM
Meredith Vieira, 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition'As a fun way to raise money for the soup kitchen run by the family selected on this week's 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' (Fri., 8PM ET on ABC), the show hooked up with Meredith Vieira and 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?'

Michael and Paige from the design team headed on over to the set where they took part in the popular game show to raise money for the family's organization. And in a fun reveal for the family, Vieira framed their earnings in the form of a 'Millionaire' question for the family.

"How did Michael and Paige do while playing on Millionaire?" she asked them. The answer was a very impressive $100,000 raised, so not only do the Dunnings get a new house to call home, but a nice investment in their charity work as well.

Meredith Vieira Calls Matt Lauer the Wrong Name (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Apr 21st 2010 2:00PM
Meredith Vieira calls Matt Lauer the wrong name on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM ET on NBC) and initially denies it before (sort of) fessing up to her mistake.

At first, Vieira denies she ever said the wrong name, claiming it was confusion caused by her native Rhode Island accent. But, eventually, after being confronted with video evidence, Vieira admits, "I meant to call you a jerk, but then it came out 'Mark.'" What an apology!

'Today' Anchors Drink Seaweed Juice (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Apr 16th 2010 12:30PM
Sure, seaweed juice sounds healthy, but at what cost? The answer became immediately apparent as Matt Lauer and Ann Curry sampled a batch of the stuff and found it not to their liking on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM ET on NBC).

During a segment on strange new foods, Lauer tries the drink first, but then quickly puts it down. "You know, you have to be careful here, because I don't want to hurt whatever company this is," Lauer said, after initially being at a loss for words. "I'm sure they're nice. It's just not my taste."

Meredith Vieira Starts a Conga Line on 'Millionaire' (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Apr 2nd 2010 2:30PM
Um, we're not quite sure how competing for money and conga dancing are related, but, in Meredith Vieira's mind, they seem to be.

For no apparent reason whatsoever, Vieira starts a random conga line on 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire' (weekdays, syndicated). Vieira invites show contestants and their families up on stage, and they proceed to shuffle around the studio to Young MC's 'Bust a Move.'

Meredith Vieira and Ann Curry surprise Al Roker with a YouTube parody of a Lady Gaga song called 'Al Roker Face' on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM ET on NBC).

In this send-up of Gaga's second single 'Poker Face,' a singer in a platinum wig sings a loving ode to the weatherman. "Okay, I think we've seen enough of that," said a mortified Roker. But, Vieira and Curry don't stop there; they then perform an impromptu dance around the weatherman complete with hand gestures.

An audience member confuses Meredith Vieira with Ann Curry on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM ET on NBC), and Vieira consoles the embarrassed man with a pat on the arm. However, she does so while introducing a story on cheating spouses, causing the man further embarrassment by inadvertently implying he's a cheater.

After her faux pas, Vieira quickly apologizes, then sputters her way through the rest of the upcoming segment's introduction.

Meredith Vieira Renews 'Today' Contract

by Michael D. Ayers, posted Mar 4th 2010 10:30AM
Meredith VieiraMeredith Vieira is sticking with the morning shift.

Although her contract was set to expire this fall, Variety is reporting that the 'Today' show co-anchor has renewed through 2011, according to internal sources at the network.

NBC has yet to confirm or deny the report.

Since Vieira replaced Katie Couric in 2006, she's seamlessly transitioned into one of morning news' most recognizable faces. As Variety points out, 'Today' has remained number-one in the ratings for the last 741 weeks, or just over 14 years.

N.J. Housewife Caroline Discusses Her Danielle Beef, Family on 'Millionaire' (VIDEO)

by Harley W. Lond, posted Feb 22nd 2010 7:47PM
Monday was the beginning of the 'Real Housewives of Millionaire Week' on 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire' (weekdays, syndicated), in which various reality show 'Housewives' team up with real housewives to win a million dollars.

On Monday's show, host Meredith Vieira asked 'The Real Housewives of New Jersey' wife Caroline Manzo about her beef with Danielle Staub. "There's a lot of crazy, I'm sure you all know" Manzo said. "And I sure there's more to come." In a clip from 'Housewives,' Manzo stressed the importance of family: "We're thick as thieves and we protect each other to the end." "It's the truth," Manzo told Vieira. "There's nothing more important than family."

And So It Begins: 'Today's' Annoying Olympics Coverage

by Joel Keller, posted Feb 12th 2010 12:29PM
Roker and Lauer on the two-man luge at the 2006 Torino OlympicsAlthough I'm generally a 'Today' show loyalist, for the next two weeks, I'm going to be a 'Good Morning America' fan.

Why? Three words: The Winter Olympics.

Every two years, since NBC started carrying the Olympics, they turn their top-rated morning news show into essentially the Games' morning recap show. Sure, you still get that first half hour of pure news, but after that, the show becomes all-Olympics, all the time, from examining the personal stories of the athletes, to travelogues about whatever exotic locale the Games are in that year, to deep, 'SportsCenter'-like examination of the previous night's results.

But that's not the part that annoys me the most. When the hosts go out and try to do the Olympic sports themselves, the cringe factor goes up exponentially. Especially when Matt Lauer and Al Roker are involved.

'Millionaire' Contestant Insults Meredith Vieira's Age (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Feb 4th 2010 5:00PM
Of all the strategies for winning on a game show, we're pretty sure insulting the host isn't one of them. A contestant on 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire' (weekdays, syndicated) told host Meredith Vieira that, while working as a bartender, he earned the nickname "Big Sexy" from a woman he described as "older."

When asked by Vieira what he meant by this, the contestant explained the woman was somewhere in her early 50s. Vieira, who is 56, then reacts with mock indignation.

Listen up kids: Don't do drugs, because, uh ... something.

Ozzy Osbourne appeared on 'Today' to promote his autobiography "I am Ozzy" and discussed the drug and alcohol dependence that has plagued him for much of his career. Osbourne also offered cautionary advice for those who might be enticed by drugs and alcohol ... he just can't seem to remember what the advice is.

by Donald Deane, posted Nov 2nd 2009 11:36AM
In a stunt similar to one of David Letterman's most famous gags, diners got a side order of hijinks as 'Today's' Meredith Vieira worked the drive-through at a suburban McDonalds.

Vieira botched orders and was generally contentious, but customers took it in stride as they worked their way through the drive-through eager for cheeseburgers, fries and other McDonald's fare.

Ann Curry is so... Ann Curry-ish

by Joel Keller, posted Oct 15th 2009 8:24PM
Meredith Viera / Ann Curry
NBC just sent me a series of photos showing the interviews that will be conducted during the network's "A Woman's Nation" series. As part of the series, NBC, CNBC and MSNBC personalities will interview each other about "the state of women in American life," as the accompanying press release has stated.

In most of the pics, the pairs -- Andrea Mitchell/Rachel Maddow, Kathie Lee Gifford/Jenna Bush Hager, Mika Brzezinski/Hoda Kotb, Natalie Morales/Suze Orman -- sit on the comfy chairs, legs crossed. As you can see from the pic above, Ann Curry, who's paired up with Meredith Vieira, wants to be different: shoes off, feet tucked under her rear end. She's really into this conversation, know what I mean? She's listening. She's comfortable.

It's so Ann Curry, isn't it?
