Hardly Knew You: The Short-Lived Shows of 2010

by Rich Keller, posted Dec 20th 2010 5:40PM
'Lone Star,' which garnered huge pre-season buzz, was cancled by FOX after only two episodes. Not everything is a long-running classic in the fickle world that is television. You may feel that your show has the right mix of acting, writing and directing to be a favorite for indefinite first-run and syndicated airings, but the viewers may have other ideas.

And when that happens, your show could disappear before the cover art is even dry for the complete series DVD set.

The year 2010 had no shortage of these short timers. In fact, the 2010-2011 season has already seen not one, not two but three series that bowed out after only two episodes. This, despite long-promoted hype and pre-season buzz. Mentioned here are the 2010 programs that had shorter runs than the presidency of William Henry Harrison.

CBS Cancels 'Cold Case,' 'Ghost Whisperer' and More; 'Medium' Renewed

by Andrew Scott, posted May 18th 2010 12:28PM
Cold CaseCBS officially canceled seven series today, the Live Feed is reporting.

Among the shows axed is the Sunday-night procedural 'Cold Case,' which slipped in the ratings in recent seasons but still drew relatively decent numbers in its 10PM timeslot. 'Cold Case' ends after seven seasons on the network.

Meanwhile, in a somewhat surprising decision, CBS will bid farewell to its steady Friday-night drama 'Ghost Whisperer,' starring Jennifer Love Hewitt.

'The New Adventures of Old Christine' will also depart the network this season, though it's possible it may be saved by ABC. No official decision has been made.

'Miami Medical' - 'Pilot' Recap (Series Premiere)

Like CBS's other medical drama for this TV season, 'Three Rivers,' 'Miami Medical' is very earnest and filled with moments that strive for poignancy. The fact that it doesn't succeed is less a reflection on the network than the creators. At least CBS gets credit for realizing that 'Miami Medical' was less that the sum of its aspirations and planted it in the little viewed Friday, 10 PM time slot.

'Miami Medical' Showrunner Jeffrey Lieber Talks Traumas, Bruckheimer and 'Lost'

by Kelly Woo, posted Mar 31st 2010 3:00PM
Jeff Lieber, Miami Medical"It's 'M*A*S*H' in paradise," exclaims a character in the new CBS drama 'Miami Medical.' And that's precisely the show's core premise, according to executive producer Jeffrey Lieber.

'Miami Medical' (premiering Fri., April 2 at 10PM ET) stars Jeremy Northam as mysterious, war-tested Dr. Matthew Procter, who joins a high-adrenaline trauma team that treats life-threatening injuries.

Lieber spoke to AOL TV about his inspiration for 'Miami Medical,' fitting into the hospital drama landscape and how he feels about the end of the show he co-created, 'Lost.'

CBS Has No Faith in 'Miami Medical'

by Bob Sassone, posted Mar 30th 2010 4:01PM
Miami MedicalYou've probably seen the commercials for CBS' new medical drama 'Miami Medical.' That's the medical drama that isn't 'Three Rivers' and has The Rollings Stones' "19th Nervous Breakdown" as the promo theme.

It premieres this Friday at 10PM, which pretty much means CBS cares about it as much as viewers are going to care about it, which is probably not very much (for the most part nowadays, Friday nights = death). The Hollywood Reporter thinks the same thing, and even says the show is "dead on arrival."

It stars Jeremy Northam as a mysterious doctor in charge of a medical facility in Miami, North Dakota. Just kidding! It's actually the one in Florida.

CBS juggles Monday, Accidentally shelved and Rules returns

by Allison Waldman, posted Jan 7th 2010 7:30PM
rules_of_engagement_cbsGood news for Patrick Warburton fans; disappointing news for Jenna Elfman fans. And if you have a deep affection for Jeremy Northam, this should make you happy, too. Confused? Don't be. I'm just laying out the essence of the CBS midseason juggle.

On Mondays, beginning February 1, Accidentally on Purpose will be shelved... but only for a few weeks. Taking the 8:30 Monday slot will be the return of Patrick Warburton, the best thing in Rules of Engagement.

That's not all. On March 31, the 8:30 slot in which Gary Unmarried airs, will be assumed by Accidentally. That's not because Gary's being canceled; it will have completed its season order by then.
