I was pretty excited when our friendly neighborhood FedEx guy dropped off the envelope with the promo package for season five of Atlantis. And I remained so even after my DVD player balked at reading the disk. It just served as a fine example as to why it's not geeky to have a computer connected to your television, it's just handy.

As the disk started up I was thinking it would be a good idea to do an early look post about where things look to be heading in season five. Unfortunately, Sci Fi only sent out the first episode of the season, and it's not telling us much of anything about season five, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The episode plays like S04E21 right up to the last scene, where season five begins to take over. Given where we last left our friends in Atlantis, that was probably to be expected. Those of you who are suffering from extreme Stargate SG-1 withdrawal are not going to be happy with the news I am about to deliver. According to a report on Gateworld Stargate: Ark of Truth, which had originally been scheduled for release this fall, has now been pushed back until the first half of 2008. If that makes you unhappy then the announcement that the second film, Stargate: Continuum has been pushed back as well is going to downright make you depressed.

Stargate: SG-1 star Michael Shanks, who's going to be featured in a 24 multi-episode arc, has not only been busy filming hot and heavy scenes with the Invasion mom (Kari Matchett) who plays the vice president's assistant, but he's been blabbing about his character's story.

According to Zap2it, Shanks will play Washington lobbyist Mark Bishop who is the "love interest" for VP aide Lisa Williams . . . the one who was getting her hand and face caressed by the creepy vice president, Noah Daniels, in hour 18. Shanks, who said he just started watching Jack Bauer & Co. this season, said he and Matchett have filmed "sexy stuff" that is "unusual for 24."

Great. Another love triangle. Just what 24 is famous for, right? First there was Chloe-Morris-Milo. Then Jack-Graem-Marilyn. Followed by Doyle-Nadia-Milo. And now the love triangle disease is going to spread to D.C. with Daniels-Williams-Bishop? What's next, Buchanan-Hayes-Lennox and other law firm sounding combos?

On Stargate SG-1, actor Michael Shanks plays Dr. Daniel Jackson, who the Sci Fi channel's web site describes as an "anthropologist, linguist and expert in ancient and current cultures."

Maybe those skills will come in handy when he joins that cast of 24.

Michael Shanks Online, as well as a Stargate fan web site, are reporting that Shanks is joining 24 in a "recurring role" and is filming scenes this week.

No word on whether he'll be able to apply Dr. Jackson's linguistic and cultural expertise to help Chloe O'Brian with her social awkwardness issues.
