Michelle Duggar, the matriarch of the popular Duggar brood featured on TLC's '19 Kids and Counting,' has miscarried. According to People, Duggar recently had a routine check-up and the doctor could not find her 20th child's heartbeat.

The 45-year-old reality star was in her second trimester.

"After the appointment, we came back home and told the children," Duggar told People. "We had just been talking about baby names last night and they were getting excited about naming a boy or a girl. It has been a real sad disappointment."

The Duggars got to experience a little bit of Scottish culture when the latest installment of '19 Kids and Counting' (Sunday, 8PM ET on TLC) -- soon to be known as '20 Kids and Counting' as the Duggars recently announced on 'Today' that Michelle is expecting again -- saw the entire clan fly off to Scotland.

Their clan was so impressive that the organizers of the festival they were at redubbed them the MacDuggan clan. And while everyone embraced the fellowship and fun of the day, Jim Bob was a little reluctant to fully get into the spirit. They got him into a kilt, but the get-up looked rather silly with the ends of his jeans sticking out of the bottom.

Yesterday Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar announced on live television that they are expecting their 20th child together. Perhaps unsurprisingly, this has provoked criticism of the couple's lifestyle choices and their decision to proceed with such a potentially high-risk pregnancy given their already large family.

So why can't the couple stop having babies? The Internet rumor mill's been working overtime, and theories being bandied about include: Is Michelle addicted to being pregnant? Do they procreate to get attention? Are they making too much money from their reality show to give it up? Or, are they, as Michelle told Ann Curry yesterday, just staying true to their motto of "There's always room for one more?"

Now Michelle -- who has suffered twice from pre-eclampsia -- defended her decision to have another child, telling 'People' that if the prospect of potentially life-threatening prenatal complications were going to deter her, then "we would have stopped back with our second birth. ... There are many women who have experienced pre-eclampsia and have gone on to have more children."

Not even the threat of pre-eclampsia or premature birth can slow down Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar in their quest to expand their already huge family: They announced this morning on 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM ET on NBC) that they are expecting their 20th child together.

Telling Ann Curry that she's three and a half months pregnant, 45 year-old Michelle said "We're due in April and we're just thrilled!" Ever the joker, Jim Bob quipped "We don't know how it happened!" Michelle added, "We are so excited. I was not thinking that God would give us another one, and we are just so grateful." The couple had hinted last night on their blog that they'd be making a "special announcement" this morning, but many assumed it would be about another grandchild.

When Curry asked the question that most of us are thinking -- WHY?! -- Michelle said they live by the motto "There's always room for one more." Plus, as Jim Bob says, one kid just moved out to start his own family so there was space available in Casa Duggar.

Michelle Duggar, matriarch of TLC's '18 Kids and Counting,' continues to be hospitalized after giving birth by emergency C-section to daughter Josie Brooklyn last Friday.

Duggar was airlifted to the University of Arkansas hospital after complaining of gallstone pains. However, her doctors ordered a C-section after finding Michelle was afflicted with preeclampsia.

There comes a point where one has to wonder how many children a set of parents should have. In the case of Michelle Duggar, the number keeps getting bigger as she and her husband have just had their 19th child. The Duggars are featured on the reality television show 18 Kids and Counting, with special emphasis placed on the and Counting.

If they can afford it, I say let them have as many children as they'd like. My concern regards putting those children (and their parents) on national television. While I have no doubt that most of them turn out all right, images of Jon and Kate Plus 8 flow through my head.

On the other hand, their home is 7,000 square feet so they likely have the room for the newborn. We only need to be careful that the Duggars are not in actuality breeding an army of soldiers to conquer the world.

Well, we need to thank the Duggar family once again for saving the human race. Michelle Duggar, previous mother of 17 children and current star of TLC's 17 Kids and Counting, has given birth to her 18th child. Lucky for us it's another girl who, many decades from now, will help replenish the population after the ice caps melt.

Jordan-Grace Makiya Duggar entered this world earlier this week, via C-section, at a healthy 7 pounds, 3 ounces. She was due in early January, but the baby's health was at risk due to her being transverse in the womb. Jordan-Grace now joins her seven sisters and 10 brothers (with names all starting with a 'J') in keeping the world population safe after the inevitable alien invasion that will probably wipe half of us out.

By the way, if you can't wait until next year to see the birth of Jordyn-Grace, you'll be happy to know that TLC will be airing a special on the baby's arrival soon. Very soon. As soon as next Monday, actually. 17 Kids and Counting: And Baby Makes 18 will air Monday at 9:00 pm on the network.

If you're a fan of the channels that make up the Discovery Communications kingdom then you have probably seen Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar and their 16 children in one of their specials. Maybe it was Raising 16 Children, where we were introduced to the Duggar clan, or On the Road With 16 Children, which focused on their trip to Disneyland. Or, perhaps, you may have caught Creating an Independent Country With 16 Children, which was shown only once and removed from the air by the government (and, if you watched that special, they would like to have a word with you. Something about conspiracy).

Well, get ready for another slew of specials because Michelle, Jim Bob, and all of their J-named children have welcomed a new baby girl into the brood. Jennifer Danielle Duggar was born on August 2nd at 10:01 in the morning. She weighed 8 pounds, 8 ounces and measured 21 inches long. Jennifer is the seventh girl to be born to the Duggars, who previously had six girls and 10 boys, including two sets of twins. Mother and baby are doing just fine and Michelle is already saying she'd love to have more children.

By the way, I was serious about a new set of specials. Discovery Health will premiere a new Duggar show in September that will feature Jennifer Danielle shortly after her birth and at home with her family.
