Mickey Rooney Claims Elder Abuse While Testifying Before Senate (VIDEO)
by Donald Deane, posted Mar 3rd 2011 12:00PM
Mickey Rooney claimed he was the victim of elder abuse while testifying before a Senate committee that's considering legislation to address such mistreatment. The 90-year-old actor said he felt "trapped" and "scared" in footage shown on 'Good Morning America' (weekdays, 7AM ET on ABC)."For years I suffered silently. I didn't want to tell anybody. I couldn't muster the courage, and you have to have courage to [say], 'I need help.' Even when I tried to speak up I was told to shut up ... I felt trapped, scared, used and frustrated," said Rooney, adding that abuse like this can "happen to anyone."
TV Squad Ten: Most/Least Sexy Super Bowl Ads of All Time

Will Rogers once said, "Advertising is the art of convincing people to spend money they don't have for something they don't need." And how do you that? That's easy. Just sprinkle in some sex! It's nature's negotiator.
Of course, it's not as simple as it sounds. These days, people are easier to offend than Catholic nuns and the FCC has made it nearly impossible to advertise products the way God intended (i.e. naked girls with abnormally large boobs writhing and moaning over the awesomeness of Flonase). So an even subtler art of using sex to get your money lies within this deeply layered process. Here are the best of the best and the worst of the worst.
Jenna Fischer wasn't sexy enough to play Sydney Bristow

One of the fun games to play when it comes to TV shows is "What If." What if Mickey Rooney had been cast as Archie Bunker on All in the Family? What would have happened to the show (and to Rooney)? That's one of interesting revelations (though that one has been known for quite some time) in the new book Mickey Rooney as Archie Bunker and Other TV Almosts by Eila Mell. It lists a bunch of actors and actresses who almost got roles we know and love. For example, Jenna Fischer (The Office) tried out for the role of Sydney Bristow on Alias, but was deemed not sexy enough for the part (as we told you about before). Whitney Houston didn't want the role of Bill Cosby's daughter on The Cosby Show so the role went to Lisa Bonet. And Leonardo DiCaprio almost played David Hasselhoff's son on Baywatch (the role went to Brandon Call and later Jeremy Jackson). That one isn't surprising at all, considering DiCaprio did work on Growing Pains and other shows.
Rooney, Carvey and Lane - VIDEO

Although I was only five or six when the very short-lived series One of the Boys aired, I think I actually remember it. At least, I remember Mickey Rooney being in it. I had no idea who the rest of the cast was, and neither would anyone else until years later.
The show centered on Rooney, who moved in with his college-age grandson (played by Dana Carvey) and his roommate, played by Nathan Lane. Meg Ryan also starred in the series, which, according to IMDb, ran for a whopping eight episodes.
Family Guy: Saving Private Brian

(S05E04) The ARMY, awwwww yeah. Finally, baseball is over and it can quit interfering with our television programs. It's been so long since a new Family Guy that this almost felt like a season premiere. The wait was worth it though, as they delivered the best episode of the young fifth season. That was probably due in part to giving Stewie and Brian a big adventure. I always prefer their stories to those involving Peter. It's tricky with Peter. I think less is more. When they use Peter extensively, he can be grating. Tonight was just right. The Full Metal Jacket/Stripes angle for Stewie and Brian was great, right down to the Stripes music during the obstacle course. And Louis Gossett Jr. as Sergeant Angryman is a nice bit of casting.
