Hellboy asks: "Will the TV camera add ten pounds to my Right Hand of Doom?"
Guillermo del Toro is a busy guy. Aside from helming the much anticipated The Hobbit prequel films to the blockbuster Lord of the Rings trilogy, he's got so many films on his schedule that he's practically booked through 2017. But what does that have to do with television, you say? Well, Variety wrote this big old long article about the esteemed del Toro, and one of the last topics discussed was the possibility of a third Hellboy movie. The second didn't achieve the success domestically as the first film but has performed well. What's kind of cool to consider is that buried in all that text is the gem that the studio is possibly considering a TV series for Hellboy to keep him in front of his fanbase until such a film could be made. Creator Mike Mignola has developed tons of stories for Hellboy in the world of comics, and possibly even more for B.P.R.D. (Bureau for Paranormal Research and Development).
Second Hellboy animated movie on Toonami this Saturday, third installment underway
The second installment in the Hellboy animated movies for Cartoon Network will air at 7 p.m. on March 17. Hellboy: Blood and Iron borrows heavily from Wake the Devil, the second Hellboy paperback, according to the series' production blog. This second installment was originally envisioned as an origin story, but that concept was too close to the theatrical release, so a (mostly) new story was developed.
The third and final installment, Hellboy: The Phantom Claw is still in the script stage, and according to the production blog, will have more of a "mad scientist/weird technology" vibe, making it quite different than the previous two movies.
As mentioned before, actors from the Hellboy movie also provide voices for the animated version, including Ron Pearlman, Selma Blair and Doug Jones. Original Hellboy creator and Hellboy movie co-writer Mike Mignola also co-wrote the scripts for the animated versions.

Hellboy animated movies based on comics
You know those two Hellboy movies being created for Toonami? The first movie, Sword of Storms, premieres in three days (October 28 at 9:30 pm), and if you're a purist who prefers Mike Mignola's comic version over the film adaptations, you'll be happy to know that these animated movies will be based, both in story and aesthetic, on the original comic books moreso than the live-action film. Actors from the film version will be providing the voices of the characters, but Mignola, who co-wrote and executive produced the movies, had a strong hand in this adaptation, according to Tad Stones, who co-directed the movies along with Phil Weinstein. The second movie, Hellboy: Blood and Iron, is slated for 2007. I've placed a trailer for Sword of Storms after the jump.TV Squad Hot Topics
