Minute to Win It

Ryan Dunn and Steve-O Having Fun, Winning for Charity on 'Minute to Win It' (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jun 9th 2011 2:38AM
Ryan Dunn & Steve-O, 'Minute to Win It'Two members of the 'Jackass' crew took to the stage on 'Minute to Win It' (Wed., 8PM ET on NBC) and proved themselves to be real class acts, trying to raise money for two worthy charities. If you're going to go on television to raise money for charity, why not have fun doing it? And it was clear that Ryan Dunn and Steve-O were having a blast with Guy Fieri and these wacky games.

No one could argue that the games on 'Minute to Win It' are so outrageously simple you can't help but have a blast doing them. Balancing four hangers on the tips of their hooks on a clothesline is brilliantly stupid, and that's what makes the show so fun.

It was a charming display through and through, reminding us that these guys are more than the crass things they do in their 'Jackass' performances. These are genuinely humble and decent human beings with huge hearts.

Rachael Ray Takes a 'Minute to Win It' Challenge From Series Creator Heath Luman (VIDEO)

by Nick Zaino, posted Mar 9th 2011 8:45PM
Rachael Ray and Heath Luman'Minute to Win It' became a surprise hit for NBC with its formula of coming up with games that people can recreate and practice at home. On Wednesday's 'Rachael Ray' (weekdays, syndicated), Ray tried out a few of those homespun games with the help of 'Minute' creator Heath Luman.

Since the games can be played with common household objects, they tend to have names like "Spatulaunch," which was the first one Ray tried. "Titles, very important in pitching a game," Luman said. A series of spatulas were laid out on a table with marshmallows on the handles. The object of the game was to hit the flat end of the spatula with a cup to launch the marshmallow into the air, and then to try to catch the marshmallow with the cup.

Ray handled it fairly easily, racking up five catches, with time and spatulas to spare; then she whacked the rest of the marshmallows into the air yelling "Fun! Fun! Fun!"

If tomorrow's recipe on the show is s'mores, the audience may want to beware.

'Minute to Win It' attracted 9.5 million viewers and a 3.0 rating in the coveted adults aged 18-49 demographic. By contrast, the most recent new episode of 'Chase' pulled in a comparatively modest 4.17 million viewers and a 1.2 rating.

A Marriage Proposal on 'Minute to Win It'On tonight's 'Minute to Win It' (Tue., 8PM ETon NBC), a young couple won a big cash prize -- and then one of them went after the biggest prize of all. Josh Needham and Lindsay Pond are from the Midwest, and were chasing a special reward: the show's top prize was increased to $3 million for the holidays. But that's not the reward that we're talking about.

First, Lindsay won $50,000 by arranging glasses in order, so that she could play 'Jingle Bells' on them. But then, Josh said that he needed to pause the show for a second. He had decided to propose to his girlfriend in front of a national audience!

But would the proposal be done 'Minute to Win It'-style? Would Josh have to race across the stage while balancing the ring on his nose, or some such? And more importantly, would Lindsay say "Yes"?

Sisters Win Big on 'Minute to Win It'On 'Minute to Win It' (Tue., 8PM ET on NBC), two sisters have a task before them that, if completely successfully, could earn them a quarter of a million dollars. The challenge? Stack four martini glasses, filling each of the lower three with four Christmas-tree ornament balls.

One woman has the stacking task, while her sibling coaches from a distance, able to see the precarious column from a different angle.

After two glasses are stacked and with 35 seconds to go, she fills a third with the decorations. "OK, that third one is just slightly off -- just slightly," advises her sister.

She straightens it and adds the final glass with 15 seconds left. The column stands alone for three seconds -- voila! Level eight complete, and $250,000 won!

'Minute to Win It' - Beauty Queens Eat Cookies Without Using Their Hands (VIDEO)

'Minute to Win It' - Beauty Queens Eat Cookes Without Using Their HandsYou might not think that Oreo cookies could be sexy. But then, you may not have watched the latest episode of 'Minute to Win It' (Mon., 8PM ET on NBC). A group of former Miss USA and Miss Universe winners appeared on the game show, and one of their challenges was to eat an Oreo -- without using their hands.

The cookie was placed on top of the women's eyes ... and then they had to move it down to their mouths. So they winked, twitched, and wiggled in order to win the contest. Cookie-eating has seldom seemed so alluring before. The former Miss Puerto Rico got the cookie in her mouth first -- she attributed her victory to a lack of Botox, which made her face more flexible. Good to know!

On 'Minute to Win It,' a Couple Walk Away With the Largest Prize Ever (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Jul 22nd 2010 12:50AM
On 'Minute to Win It,' a Couple Walk Away With the Largest Prize EverUm, spoiler alert? We guess? Anyway, the headline above pretty much indicates what happened tonight on 'Minute to Win It' (Wed., 8PM ET on NBC). Last week, engaged couple Aaron and Kimberly "banked" $250,000 -- the most that any contestants have won thus far on the series. This week, the pair returned to go for the one million dollar prize.

But first, they would have to make it past "Level Nine" of the show. This involved a seemingly impossible task: stacking magnetic hex nuts on a plate, using only a chopstick -- and then balancing the tall stack of nuts for three seconds. First, Kimberly failed, which lost the couple one of their three "lives." Then, Aaron came within 0.55 seconds of succeeding ... before his column of hex nuts collapsed.

A "Superhuman" Couple Score $250,000 on 'Minute to Win It' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Jul 15th 2010 12:50AM
A 'Superhuman' Couple Score $250,000 on 'Minute to Win It'A couple reached the $250,000 level on 'Minute to Win It' (Wed., 8PM ET on NBC). This is the largest amount of money that any contestants have gotten so far on the show.

Aaron and Kimberly are a good-looking pair, and they displayed what host Guy Fieri called "superhuman" skills. The couple mastered the art of picking up stuff with their teeth, eating swinging cherries, rolling eggs, and balancing springs. (This description will probably make more sense if you actually watch the clip, by the way.)

Also, Aaron and Kimberly are currently engaged, and want to win at least $50,000 on the show so that they can get married. ... And, um. Wait a minute. If we could just break in and interject for half a second. Your current 'TV Squad' columnist is who is writing this column is not engaged, but he does have a girlfriend. ... And how does it cost $50,000 to get married? Can't you just get married whenever you feel like it? Why would it require that much money?

Hot Twins on 'Minute to Win It' (VIDEO)

by Oliver Miller, posted Jul 8th 2010 12:45AM
Hot Twins on 'Minute to Win It'Twins! On 'Minute to Win It' (Wed., 9PM ET on NBC), host Guy Fieri welcomes a pair of sexy twins, who are competing to win a one million dollar prize on the game show.

The two sisters are named Becky and Jessie, and they're wearing surprisingly revealing outfits. Which is odd, considering that their tasks on the show involve doing stuff like bouncing ping pong balls into a basket -- not exactly something that requires form-fitting clothing. It's almost like the producers are trying to show them off -- but that would never happen, right?

Anyway, the twins win $75,000. They decide to risk that money in an effort to win the million dollars. But they lose, and end up walking away with a mere $50,000.

By the way, on a slightly unrelated note, we'd just like to say something here. We realize that some dudes have sexy fantasies involving twin girls. So we'd just like to say one thing -- twin girls are sisters. That's just simple science or biology or what have you. Therefore, any fantasy involving twins would also involve, um, incest.

TodayGuy Fieri stopped by 'Today' (weekdays, 7AM on NBC) and challenged the anchors to do the $1 million challenge from his game show 'Minute to Win It.'

The challenge: Bounce a quarter off a table and into a water jug. Lester Holt and Ann Curry gave it their best, but didn't land the quarter.

On the other hand, Meredith Vieira had different strategy.

Instead of bouncing the quarter off the table, she walked right up to the jug and placed it in. That's cheating, Meredith!

Kevin Jonas on 'Minute to Win It'Pop singer Kevin Jonas appeared on the game show 'Minute to Win It' (Wed., 8PM ET on NBC). The singer apparently loves the series, and wanted to be a guest on it. He was attempting to win up to $1 million for his favorite charity, Change for the Children.

In-between preforming the show's ridiculous tasks -- such as blowing a deck of cards off a bottle and moving eggs across the floor using only a pizza box -- Jonas took time out to respond to his adoring fans in the audience. He signed the aforementioned pizza box and presented it to a young girl, while the crowd exploded into cheers. "We'll be back to our [regularly] scheduled program," said host Guy Fieri, but that still failed to stop the screaming from Jonas's fans.
