Monster Squad
TV on DVD: Week of June 23
Here are the highlights of this week's DVD releases. Enjoy!'The Girls Next Door' (Season 5)
What the Season's About: This season chronicles the lead-up to the buxom blonde trio's flight from the Playboy coop. While we now know that Kendra and Bridget landed their own series, we will always remember their time in the mansion -- even if Hef doesn't.
Why You Should Check It Out: It's the last season that features Bridget, Holly and Kendra as Hef's girlfriends. While there is a season 6 in the works with all new Hef gal pals, the chemistry between these three will be hard to match.

New TV on DVD releases this week
Here are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.I can't think of another DVD week where there's so much that I don't want to buy. So few new releases, and nothing that really screams out "buy me." OK, maybe the Tom and Jerry set could be fun, but for some reason I was never into that series of cartoons. For my animal battle cartoons I'm more a Sylvester/Tweety and Road Runner/Wile E. Coyote fan.

The kinder, gentler Halloween monsters of children's television - VIDEOS
Children's television is the ultimate pacifier. Where else in the world can a terrible, horrific monster that destroys both life and property with nary a whiff of sympathy be turned into a soft, cuddly character who has his own line of soft, cuddly dolls being sold at the local Wal-Mart? It's only later in life, after they've adjusted to these de-fanged monsters, do they realize that their beliefs were so wrong. Aaaannnddd, that's where the therapy comes in.
But, we're not here to talk about the emotional problems that are paralyzing you today. We're here to talk about those vampires, ghosts and mummies that were stripped down and made to be funny, clumsy and even musically oriented. After the jump you'll see a few examples of what I mean. Don't worry, they won't scare you...they've been homogenized for your nightmare-free pleasure.
