The Twelve Days of Festivus: Ten shows on DVD
by Nick Zaino, posted Dec 14th 2009 11:29AM
On the tenth day of Festivus, TV gave to me... Ten shows on DVD.There are plenty of great TV collections being released all the time now, bringing back classic TV, shows that had short runs, and current favorites. You know about most of the big shows, so here's a mix of more popular and some maybe less-heralded collections.
House, M.D.: Season Five: This was a breakout season for the show, where the secondary characters really came to life and House broke down and finally had to face his addictions and personal failings. Season five may wind up being a pinnacle for the series as a whole.
Caprican Patton Oswalt's special My Weakness Is Strong
by Nick Zaino, posted Aug 26th 2009 3:01PM
If you missed Patton Oswalt's new special, My Weakness Is Strong, Sunday night on Comedy Central, you can already pick it up on DVD and CD. According to Amazon, you can but either the CD for $10.99 or get both the DVD and CD in one package for ... $10.99. Either way, it's worth it to get the DVD. My Weakness was a good special on Comedy Central, but it's a better special on DVD. There are a few extra bits on the DVD/CD release (the jacket lists it at 64 minutes, and the TV special, deducting times for commercials, was probably about 44 minutes). It also features some amusing bonus features, including a commercial for how you can make money selling products for AVT, a merchandise warehouse operation (with guests Zach Galifianakis and Paul F. Tompkins).
Patton Oswalt's new comedy special is coming
by Annie Wu, posted Aug 21st 2009 1:04PM
Back in February, Patton Oswalt headed to DC to record his new comedy special, My Weakness Is Strong. It's set to air on Comedy Central on Sunday night (that's the 23rd, you lazy bum), with the CD/DVD coming out two days later. If you can't hang on that long, just hop on iTunes, where his album is already rapidly climbing up the charts, currently sitting at #3 and making the likes of Reba McEntire weep Internet-tears.I was lucky enough to be in attendance when Oswalt taped his special, and I was not disappointed. Since I returned home that evening so many months ago, I have been thinking about the DVD, quietly praying and hoping that the cameras did not catch me wiping tears from my eyes or awkwardly leaning too close to the person sitting next to me as I laughed. Excuse me, I have a surly image to maintain.
