Maya Rudolph and Kelly Ripa Have an 'Oprah-Off' (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Dec 2nd 2011 3:00PM
Maya Rudolph's been trying to tell people for months that her 'Up All Night' character Ava, who just so happens to be a flight talk show host, isn't a re-imagining of her famous 'SNL' Oprah impression. But Friday on 'Live!' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC), at the behest of guest-host Neil Patrick Harris, Rudolph and Kelly Ripa broke out their dueling Oprah impersonations for an 'Oprah-Off.'

Rudolph started off the competition by announcing a fake audience giveaway that would make Snooki proud. "Today, we're giving away ... pickles!!" she exclaimed, as the audience cheered wildly. Ripa followed up with, "You get a pickle, and you get a pickle and you get a pickle," and got some feedback from Rudolph on her impression.

NPH and Kelly Ripa Inhale Sulfur Hexafluoride, Get Hilariously Deep Voices (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Dec 1st 2011 2:35PM
Everybody knows that inhaling Helium will give you a temporarily high voice and make you sound like Pee-wee Herman. Today on 'Live!' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC) Kelly Ripa and guest-host Neil Patrick Harris demonstrated the inverse scientific effect. They had on Science Expert Bob, who came carrying a canister of Sulfur Hexafluoride, a chemical gas that makes your voice hilariously deep.

Bob filled each host up a balloon, and when Harris asked if it was dangerous, Bob could only reply, "Okay, let's do it." Things got pretty entertaining after they inhaled, as they each launched into movie quotes fitting their newly baritone voices. Kelly went to 'Star Wars,' quoting "Luke, I am your Father," while NPH went with a slightly darker reference. "It puts the lotion in the basket," he said, quoting Buffalo Bill from 'Silence of the Lambs.' After that, they burst out in laughter and pretended to be addicted to the stuff.

Neil Patrick Harris Sneaks a Kiss From Betty White (VIDEO)

by Alex Moaba, posted Nov 29th 2011 12:30PM
Yesterday, 'Live! With Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC) guest-host and 'How I Met Your Mother Star' Neil Patrick Harris joked that he wanted to make out with Betty White. On Tuesday he got his chance, as the 89-year-old comedienne stopped by 'Live' in advance of the 'Hot in Cleveland' Season 3 premiere (Wed., Nov. 30 at 10PM ET on TV Land.)

The two talked about a potential White 'HIMYM' cameo that never came to be. Before White's late-career resurgence, Harris wanted White to guest-star on the show as sexy cougar that his character Barney Stinson would hook up with. White shared that she was thrilled after getting a call from a 'HIMYM' producer asking her to be on an episode, but never heard back about it.

To make up for the missed opportunity, Harris asked White for a kiss on the cheek. When she leaned in, he turned his face around snuck one on the lips. Something tells us she didn't mind.

It Didn't Go So Well When Neil Patrick Harris Met President Obama (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 28th 2011 4:33AM
Neil Patrick Harris, 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon'Meeting someone with the stature of the President of the United States is one of those moments you kind of need to mentally prepare for. That could be why things were a little awkward when Neil Patrick Harris met Barack Obama recently, as he detailed on 'Late Night' (Weeknights, 12:37AM ET on NBC).

NPH was hosting an event "about LGBT stuff" for the DNC, and there was a line for photo ops with President Obama. Harris was moving through the room, getting ready to get back on stage and continue with his next part of the show when he was ushered around a curtain.

"You turn around a curtain and there's the freaking president of the United States," he said. "And you quickly panic because, what do you say?"

Neil Patrick Harris Describes a Circus Move Stephen Colbert Showed Him (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 26th 2011 4:04AM
Neil Patrick Harris, 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart'First of all, Jon Stewart paid a genuine compliment to Stephen Colbert on 'The Daily Show' (Weeknights, 11PM ET on Comedy Central). That's shocking alone, but the image Neil Patrick Harris created when describing a circus spin move Colbert knows was just as unexpected.

Colbert knows how to do "the spin move" -- which involves two people jumping up into his arms and then him spinning in a circle -- and after hearing both Harris and Stewart describe it we demand to see him perform this move for ourselves.

According to Stewart, "Two more years, he throws out a hip" doing this move, so we'll need to see it as soon as possible. Colbert is sure to watch this episode, because he'll want to clip out the bit where Stewart calls him "a multi-talented individual."

Andy Cohen Finally Tells 'Real Housewives of NYC' to 'Shut the F*** Up! (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 26th 2011 3:24AM
Neil Patrick Harris, 'Watch What Happens: Live'While you didn't get to see it on the reunion special for 'The Real Housewives of New York City,' Andy Cohen revealed the moment he truly lost it during taping of the special on 'Watch What Happens: Live' (Mon., 11:30PM ET on Bravo).

We think he probably deserves a medal anyway for trying to herd those women through proper conversations. They talk over one another so much and jump up so often yelling like they're on 'Jerry Springer,' it's a nearly impossible task. And this time, it just got to be too much.

"This time, ladies and gentlemen, they broke me," Cohen said before revealing the clip. In it, after several tries to get the women to all stop talking he finally yelled at them to "Shut the f*** up!"

Something we've wanted to do on multiple occasions each week during the show. It's fair to say we're actually jealous of Cohen now that he got to do it!

Neil Patrick Harris Reveals a Magic Trick Gone Wrong We Never Saw (VIDEO)

by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 19th 2011 5:34AM
Neil Patrick Harris, 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno'The last thing a magician ever wants is for a trick to go wrong. It immediately damages their credibility, and in a worst-case scenario, can reveal how the trick is done, destroying the illusion of "magic." Neil Patrick Harris didn't have to worry about the latter, but he revealed a well-kept incident when things didn't go well on 'The Tonight Show' (Weeknights, 11:35PM ET on NBC).

In this case, it was more of a mechanical failure, but Jay Leno and 'The Tonight Show' staff had cleverly edited out the entire segment, possibly because it was the staff that had pressured Harris into doing it when he started worrying something might go wrong.

Celebrity 'Jeopardy!' Contestants and Schedule

by Brad Trechak, posted Apr 20th 2010 1:15PM
Jeopardy and Wheel of FortuneThe game show 'Jeopardy!' has announced the semi-finalists for its Million Dollar Celebrity Invitational Tournament, in which celebrities compete for $1 Million to go to the charity of their choice. The list of celebrities and the charities they will sponsor is as follows:

May 3
Pat Sajak (Vietnam Veterans of America)
Jane Curtin (U.S. Fund for UNICEF)
Harry Shearer (Common Ground Relief)

May 4
Michael McKean (International Myeloma Foundation)
Charles Shaughnessy (1736 Family Crisis Center)
Isaac Mizrahi (Good Shepherd Services)

May 5
Neil Patrick Harris (Food on Foot)
Jane Kaczmarek (Clothes Off Our Back)
Cheech Marin (Hispanic Scholarship Fund)

The winners of each round will move on to the 2-day finals, on May 6th and 7th.

It must have been easy for the studio to get Pat Sajak since both 'Jeopardy!' and 'Wheel of Fortune' are produced by Sony Pictures Studios. The line-up on May 4th isn't as interesting as the other two dates (Andy Richter had to drop out for that day due to his appearances on Conan O'Brien's tour), but the other two days pretty much rock, celebrity-wise. I'm secretly hoping that NPH wins it all but I have no idea how good each of the contestants are at 'Jeopardy!'.

Tell us: Who do you think will win?

'How I Met Your Mother' - 'Home Wreckers' Recap

by Joel Keller, posted Apr 20th 2010 12:02AM
(S05E20) It figures that right after I do a long post about the prominence of silly standalone episodes on 'HIMYM' this year, Bays and Thomas come back with an episode that could both stand alone and be part of the "mythology" of the show. And it gave us a new drinking game, to boot.

Neil Patrick Harris on Nerves During Award Show Appearance (VIDEO)

by Donald Deane, posted Apr 19th 2010 11:30AM
Fans of Neil Patrick Harris might be surprised to learn the actor suffered a slight case of nerves when performing his surprise musical number at the 2010 Academy Awards, he said on 'The Early Show' (weekdays, 7AM ET on CBS).

While the actor didn't panic while performing in front of the Hollywood elite, he did admit to having some anxiety during his unannounced song-and-dance number, which was a last-minute addition to the award show and required him to rehearse in secret. "I was a little bit nervous," Harris said. "When you're looking down and seeing George Clooney, it's a little freaky."

Good News for Gleeks

by Stephanie Earp, posted Apr 13th 2010 3:29PM

I think I have established in my previous columns that I don't like 'Glee.' But here's the thing: you do. Or at least a great many of you do. Oprah likes 'Glee,' Ellen likes 'Glee,' even Michelle Obama likes 'Glee.' I have decided this week, in honour of the show's return on Tuesday, to put aside my own distaste and bring you, my readers, as much good news about 'Glee' as I can.

1. More Music

According to the producers, the second half of the first season will be even more loaded with musical numbers, jumping from 3-5 numbers to at least 5 numbers per 1-hour episode (some episodes are closer to 10 songs).

What other 'Glee'-ful things are in store? Read more after the jump!

'Glee' Star Jessalyn Gilsig Talks Madonna, NPH, New Directions & More

by Maggie Furlong, posted Apr 13th 2010 9:00AM
Jessalyn GilsigJessalyn Gilsig is known for playing the bad girl, the beeyotch, the woman you just don't want to mess with. Think about it: 'Nip/Tuck,' 'Heroes,' 'Friday Night Lights,' 'Boston Public' and now 'Glee.'

But changes are in store for Terri Schuester -- looks like it's really truly over with the once conniving, hysterically pregnant Mrs. Schue and her better half, Will. She's seen the light and is supposedly turning over a new leaf ... and, most importantly, she'll finally get to join in the singing and dancing fun.

I caught up with Gilsig to talk dream guest stars, new relationships and all the juice on the much-anticipated final nine episodes of the season -- including the big Madonna episode and a Sue Sylvester moment she says will "go down in history."

Barney Nails It on 'How I Met Your Mother'On the latest episode of 'How I Met Your Mother' (Mon., 8PM ET on CBS), Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) finds himself in a slightly sticky situation. Barney finds himself trapped between two sexy girls who believe that he is "Neil Armstrong" -- who is apparently either an astronaut or a famous cyclist. (Possibly a small confusion with Lance Armstrong is happening here.)

'How I Met Your Mother' - 'Zoo Or False' Recap

by Joel Keller, posted Apr 13th 2010 12:04AM
'How I Met Your Mother' - 'Zoo Or False'
Many of the episodes of 'HIMYM' this season have been slapsticky and silly, but mostly in a good way. It's part of the effort of Carter Bays, Craig Thomas and their crew to not get so bogged down in the "mythology" of the Mother story, allowing them to touch on it much less than they used to. It also sets up some nice standalone episodes for syndication.

Sometimes the silliness works, sometimes it doesn't. This time it worked. And because it worked, I won't get the phase "mugged by a monkey" out of my head for quite a while.
