MacGyver heading to the big screen...still
by Allison Waldman, posted Mar 16th 2009 12:06PM
What are the odds that a big screen adaptation of ABC's 1980's hit MacGyver will be a success? Judging by the success-to-failure ratio of TV-to-movies, I'd say it's 50-50 at best. For every The Fugitive, there's The Wild, Wild West. A Mission: Impossible reboot works well enough as a Tom Cruise vehicle, but a live action Speed Racer is an unmitigated disaster. Still, the optimist in me will hope that New Line's MacGyver to the big screen will work. They first mentioned this about a year ago, but it's picked up some traction now. There's no star attached as yet, but a lot of De Laurentiises -- Dino is exec producer, Raffaellla and Martha are producing for Raffaella Productions. (Giada is sticking to the Food Network.) Fortunately, the series creator, Lee Zlotoff is attached, too.
More Sex and the City movies? Believe it
by Allison Waldman, posted Jun 1st 2008 12:44PM
Just as the Sex and the City movie is surging to the top of the box office charts -- beating out week two of Indiana Jones -- Michael Patrick King is cashing in on the success. DreamWorks has offered the writer/director/producer of Sex and the City a first-look deal for future film project. And one of those future films could be sequel to the new Sex and the City movie. This may seem unimaginable, but -- come on -- this is Hollywood. If this film does boffo box office, which seems likely based on a $26 million Friday, why wouldn't Warner Bros. and New Line cash in with another episode from the lives of Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte? According to King, he wasn't thinking of launching the ladies into a film series, especially since they had such a good run on HBO and are still doing well on cable. "I wrote that movie with a beginning, middle and end because I didn't want to leave the audience unfulfilled. The actresses are great, and if the gods smile and people are still interested, why not?"
(Mr.) Big news for the Sex and the City movie

Unlike Adam, who first reported back in April that Sex and the City was heading to the bigscreen, I have no opinion about the former HBO comedy. I didn't watch the original run on HBO (except the very last episode) and never watch an episode of the watered-down, syndicated version. I also would not like to have children ice skate across my face. Rollerblade across it? Fine. Just not ice skates. Those things hurt!
My non-opinion doesn't stop me from reporting that Chris Noth will be reprising his role as the dashingly rich Mr. Big in the movie adaption of the show.
Casting call for Battle of the Wedding Singers
by Adam Finley, posted May 9th 2006 6:35PM
Are you between the ages of 21 and 99? Are you also a man or woman? If you are, I just want you to know that's totally awesome. Oh yeah, and New Line television has sent out a casting call for a new reality series called Battle of the Wedding Singers in which two wedding singers compete at the same wedding reception. The bride, groom, and all of their guests then vote on who they think the best singer is. The loser is then taken out into the street and shot in the head. Or so I assume, there's not much information. The idea of a competition for something that doesn't really require much more than mediocre vocal talent doesn't seem especially appealing to me, but at least the rest of the show sounds incredibly boring.TV Squad Hot Topics
