What to Watch: NYE Edition

by Stephanie Earp, posted Dec 31st 2009 2:02AM

New Year's Rockin' Eve - Thursday December 31, 10 pm, ABC

For the first time, the pre-taped musical segments will originate in Las Vegas, where they really know how to throw a party. Fergie will play hostess, with musical acts The Black Eyed Peas, Robin Thicke, Colbie Caillat and many more. Jennifer Lopez returns from the rock she crawled under to perform live in Times Square, along with 'American Idol's Daughtry.

Adam Lambert booked on The View

by Allison Waldman, posted Dec 5th 2009 2:00PM
adam_lambert_foxThe on-again, off-again love affair between ABC and American Idol star Adam Lambert is making my head spin. In the past week or so, still stinging over Lambert's over the top performance at the American Music Awards, ABC dropped Adam Lambert appearances on Good Morning American, Jimmy Kimmel Live and New Year's Rockin' Eve.

Adam absolved ABC of responsibility for the cancellations. He Tweeted that it was pressure from the FCC. Then the folks at GLAAD weighed in, coming to Adam's defense. That was followed by the announcement that Adam is now set to appear on ABC's The View on Thursday, December 10. He'll also be on Barbara Walters' Most Fascinating People special on December 9.

Ryan Seacrest and the charitable kissing

by Brad Trechak, posted Dec 29th 2008 6:02PM
Ryan SeacrestRyan Seacrest and Proctor & Gamble will be kissing cousins. Well, in the sense that they're co-running a charitable promotion to catch couples kissing on camera for New Year's Eve.

At first, I thought they were going to have various listed celebrities kiss Ryan Seacrest, which I would have found far more amusing (two of them are Billy Bush and Mario Lopez). Sadly, it is not. Ah, who'd want to kiss Ryan Seacrest anyway?

Scope mouthwash ran a similar promotion at the last New Year's Eve special. Frankly, I don't even watch the networks on New Year's anymore, but I understand that I'm in the minority. I prefer to be at a party with friends or watch reruns of anything I find entertaining.

Why can't the networks run a special showing people with hangovers the next day? Perhaps it could become a reality show when people realize with regret the next morning exactly who they kissed.

Could Live with Ryan and Kelly be in our future?

by Jason Hughes, posted Apr 11th 2008 3:01PM
Regis Philbin, Kelly Ripa, Ryan Seacrest and Mickey MouseYou've heard of Ryan Seacrest, right? Well, one of the most reliable news source in the world, The Globe, tells us now that the folks behind Live are courting Ryan Seacrest to replace Regis Philbin on their morning staple. It makes perfect sense. Consider that Regis, who turns 176 this year, has racked up more hours on television than anyone in history, but now has announced he'll be cutting back his television work to three days a week. Then we have Ryan, who can be seen and heard everywhere from his work on E! to American Idol to New Year's Rockin' Eve to his radio show to American Top 40. Maybe he'd give up his morning radio gig for a morning TV gig. Or maybe record one during the commercial breaks of the other.

I almost missed this story, though, because that same issue of The Globe promised to show me how to win the Lottery and I'm busy spending all the money I'm gonna win! So for now, we'll say the rumor's unsubstantiated but if the Weekly World News or The Onion picks it up, then it's official!

New Year's Rockin' Eve with ... Ryan Seacrest?!

by Keith McDuffee, posted Aug 16th 2005 10:18AM
ryan seacrestYou may remember (or not remember, depending on the obvious circumstances) that Dick Clark did not host last year's New Year's celebration on ABC due to a stroke he suffered just days before the event. Regis Philbin stepped up to the plate then. Now it seems we all had either get used to seeing Ryan Seacrest hosting the remainder of the events, or watch something else (or you could go out for the night, but we don't talk about that here). The next New Year's celebration show on ABC will be co-hosted by both Seacrest and Clark, with Seacrest eventually solo-hosting the show for several years to come.
