'Saturday Night Live' star Jason Sudeikis has joined the cast of HBO's 'Eastbound & Down.'

According to Variety, Sudeikis, who is starring in this summer's buzz-worthy comedy flick 'Horrible Bosses,' will play Shane, a new friend to Kenny Powers.

No other details have been revealed, except that his role will be recurring.

At the end of Season 2, Kenny Powers was seen heading back to North Carolina.

Sudeikis recently hosted the MTV Movie Awards and his voice can also be heard on 'The Cleveland Show.'

Could Dominic Purcell be the new Spartacus? The 'Prison Break' star has reportedly tested for the lead role in Starz's 'Spartacus: Blood and Sand.'

According to Deadline Hollywood, Purcell has been vacationing in Australia and taped a test and sent it along to the producers the same day Starz chief Chris Albrecht spoke to reporters at TCA.

Besides Purcell, Australian actor Liam McIntyre is still in the running for the role previously held by Andy Whitfield. Purcell's 'Prison Break' costar Wentworth Miller has also expressed interest in the role.

• Nick Stahl has joined the cast of 'Locke & Key.' The Fox pilot, based on Joe Hill's comic book, follows Nina Locke (Miranda Otto) and her three children after they move to her deceased husband's family home. Stahl will play Duncan, Nina's art teacher brother-in-law. [Deadline Hollywood]

Long-time readers of this site might remember the recurring feature "Short-Lived Shows." While this column may bear a resemblance to that beloved early TV Squad staple, there are notable differences. In particular, I'll be going much more in-depth about the show's fate, its cast, continuing fan support, and possible story continuations in different mediums.

Also, to make this column, a show must have actually been good. Shows that are canceled and deserve it certainly aren't "Gone Too Soon." They're perhaps not gone soon enough. Furthermore, a GTS could just as easily have been on the air for years before ending abruptly. If I'm sitting here wondering what happens next and now I'm never going to find out, that's gone too soon.

Which brings us to our first entry. HBO is known for groundbreaking television, but even they didn't know how much ground they broke with Carnivàle in September 2003. On the surface, it was yet another brilliantly produced period piece, perfectly capturing the look and feel of the Great Depression era United States. Underneath, it was nothing short of the epic struggle between good and evil.

Entertainment Weekly ran an interesting online reader's poll asking, "Who deserves more fame?"

While I'm not sure I'd wish big time, privacy-destroying fame on any of my favorite performers, there are definitely some TV actors out there who are severely underrated.
