Oprah's 'Favorite Guest' Says Being on Show was 'High-Brow Exploitation'

by Chris Harnick, posted Aug 5th 2010 1:30PM
Zachary CollingerZachary Collinger, a "favorite guest" of Oprah Winfrey, told ParentDish that being on the show and receiving that honor has had little effect on his life.

Collinger and his sister appeared on an episode of 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' about death and dying. The young siblings had just lost their mother to lung cancer and were asked to share stories about their recent loss.

"To be even more candid, I regard my appearance on her show as little more than high-brow exploitation in the name of creating a compelling (and yes, marketable) story: an emotional brother and his adorably poised younger sister cherishing the smallest details of their last days with their dying mother," Collinger wrote in a column on Parentdish.

Tyra Banks helps make an SNL skit come to life

Parent Dish -- one of TV Squad's... cousins? step-aunts? -- has a great article about the newest baby fashion accessory: baby wigs. Seriously. Someone has invented and is marketing wigs for infants. In fact, Tyra Banks devoted a segment on her talk show to the phenomenon. I expected her to be all for it, as she has made no secret of her love affair with wigs, but to her credit, she seems appropriately disgusted by the idea.

The article makes it seem as though parents are buying these for their children because having a bald head hurts the baby's self-esteem. That sounds somehow... familiar.
