by Jason Hughes, posted Jul 21st 2011 10:15AM
'The World According to Paris'Paris Hilton has certain standards for celebrating her birthday. "It's not a birthday unless I celebrate it in at least two time zones," she explained on 'The World According to Paris' (Wed., 10PM ET on Oxygen).

We're sure most Americans feel that way, which is why most Americans will have to simply stop celebrating their birthdays.

But Hilton has no problems having a lavish party in New York in anticipation of the "big party in LA" in a couple days time. Until then, she had to settle for the likes of Adrian Grenier, Lil' Wayne and Kathy Griffin to keep her satisfied.

As Hilton looked off-camera to her publicist, Harris said, "You wanna wrap up?" and Hilton walked off. At the end of the hub-bub, we hear Hilton saying, "I don't want all of this being used." She apparently did not get her wish.

Paris Hilton and Craig FergusonCraig Ferguson either has some crazy ideas about massages, or else he's trying to push Paris Hilton into doing bizarre things. On 'The Late Late Show' (Weeknights, 12:37AM ET on CBS), he asked her if she was ever worried her massage therapist was going to run to TMZ with sordid details about her body.

"I only have one person I've used for years. I don't use random people," she said.

"You should," he replied. He then laid out a scenario where she was far away from home and needed a massage. What would she do then? We're pretty sure no one would do what he considered.

Would you ever knock on the next door and say, "Hi, I'm Paris Hilton. Sorry to bother you. Could you give me a massage?'" he asked.

'The World According to Paris'If you're going to be four hours late meeting your boyfriend, it might not be a good idea to have him waiting at a party overflowing with booze. Paris Hilton found out the hard way that booze and anger don't go well together on 'The World According to Paris' (Wed., 10PM ET on Oxygen).

After showing up late to the party, Paris tried to start snuggling with boyfriend Cy as if nothing had happened. But the four hours he had to wait for her obviously meant a lot more to him than it did to her.

Chelsea HandlerAfter spending a lot of her time talking about Lindsay Lohan and other tabloid celebrities, Chelsea Handler said she likes to unwind with a nice glass of -- wait, she doesn't want to drink, she wants to watch '60 Minutes.'

Yes, the comedian is a fan of shows such as 'Rock of Love' and 'Tool Academy,' but when Handler stopped by 'The Rachael Ray Show' (weekdays, syndicated), she revealed her love for the serious side of TV. "I like '60 Minutes' and boring stuff like that ... my job is constantly talking about Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton and it's like you want to shoot yourself ... so you want to kind of like train your brain to try and remember something and work on your IQ a little bit," Handler said.

Paris Hilton does 'Top 10' List on 'David Letterman' You've gotta hand it to Paris Hilton. Everyone makes fun of her and her penchant for getting publicity out of doing nothing, but we like her just a teensy bit more for making fun of herself.

She appeared on the 'Late Show with David Letterman' (weeknights, 11:35PM on CBS) to do a 'Top 10 Reasons I'm Not on the Late Show' bit. Our personal favorite? "I was on Regis this week, and I only talk to one old dude a month."

Best TV of the '00s: Reality Participant / Contestant

by Annie Wu, posted Dec 29th 2009 7:02PM
the osbourne familyMore of our best of the decade coverage, which started earlier today. You can read the other posts at the link above. Here, we talk about our favorite reality contestants and participants.

Whether we like it or not, the '00s introduced us to a new form of celebrity: the reality star. In previous decades, the closest we got to this were especially entrancing personalities from MTV's Real World. These people gained fame for acting like well-crafted exaggerations of their real selves.

Faster than you can say, "I didn't come here to make friends," networks picked up on the public's fascination with reality TV like Survivor and they pushed it to the popularity that it has reached today. Now, reality shows barely reflect what happens in normal people's lives but are generally more like high-concept game shows or extremely scripted improvs. But people keep watching, because the personalities are big and captivating.

Yup. Strategic footage editing does wonders. Here are some of our personal favorites from the genre, but feel free to comment with your own worthy additions!

The Twelve Days of Festivus: Seven shows a-thrivin'

by Kona Gallagher, posted Dec 17th 2009 11:03AM
john lithgowOn the seventh day of Festivus, TV gave to me... Seven shows a-thrivin'.

The 2009-2010 season is a great one to be on TV-- especially for returning dramas and new comedies. If we had 20 days of Christmas, I probably could have filled the list with shows that were either thriving right out of the gate or making a resurgence after being on the air for several years. As it is, we just have seven slots, so here are some noteworthy series that are thriving this year.

Dexter
I've always liked Dexter, but it's never been appointment TV for me. I've generally been content to wait until the season came out on DVD and knock all of the episodes out in a weekend. However, after a creative dip in season 3, I've found myself positively glued to my television every Sunday night that season 4 has aired. John Lithgow absolutely made the season as the creepy Arthur Mitchell. Plus the finale? I know some of you saw the big twist coming at the end, but I certainly did not. Who doesn't like to end a season with their jaw on the floor?

Why is ABC giving Nicole Richie a situation comedy?

by Allison Waldman, posted Dec 1st 2009 3:01PM
nicole_richie_necklaceIf you don't count Hank -- and I'm trying to erase the two episodes I saw from my memory banks -- ABC has had a pretty good year launching new comedies. In fact, if you go back to the spring, you can add Better Off Ted to Cougar Town, The Middle and Modern Family.

Why then would ABC be giving Nicole Richie a new sitcom? I just don't see where she's worthy of a show, let alone that she has the star appeal or talent to carry a situation comedy.

Perhaps ABC has some take on The Simple Life star that I'm missing. She's cute, yes. She's not a complete airhead judging by what I've seen of her on talk shows. But, really, aren't there better actresses -- stars -- who are more viable for a new comedy series? Stars will more talent than celebrity to their credit.
