by Catherine Lawson, posted Jan 27th 2011 7:40AM
ABC logoAs pilot season continues apace, ABC has announced that it's greenlighted another pilot for a multi-camera family comedy: 'Other People's Kids.'

According to Deadline, the comedy centers on a 32-year-old guy with no responsibilities, who suddenly finds himself with an instant family when he falls in love with an older woman with two kids, an ex-husband and ex-in-laws.

New ABC programming chief Paul Lee is a fan of the multi-camera sitcom format, and he's said to be mulling over a return to the ABC Friday night 'TGIF' comedy block. To this end, the pilots ordered by ABC so far this season have skewed heavily towards multi-camera comedies, including 'The Last Day of Man,' 'Work It' and 'Smothered.'

New ABC Exec Paul Lee Wants to Strengthen the Network's Brand - TCA Report

by Joel Keller, posted Aug 1st 2010 4:25PM
New ABC Entertainment president Paul Lee at the Summer 2010 TCAsNot much in the way of actual news or information happened at the ABC executive session this morning, mainly for two reasons: 1) ABC refused to elaborate on Steve McPherson's departure, and 2) McPherson's replacement, Paul Lee, had only been on the job for 36 hours when he took the stage to talk to the gathered critics.

ABC publicity exec Kevin Brockman brought out a large stuffed pink elephant before introducing Lee, to joke about the pink elephant in the room of McPherson's departure. But that was the only comment he made on it, saying that their previous statement, issued when McPherson left, will stand as the only thing they'll say on the subject.

What did come out of Lee's session was the idea that ABC has a brand and it needs to be strengthened. As much as any broadcast network can be branded, of course. Lee's last job was as the head of ABC Family, where he had to "not only channel my inner American, but I had to channel my inner female teen."

More episodes for Kyle XY in season 2

by Richard Keller, posted May 12th 2007 4:04PM

A full season for Kyle XYABC Family is giving a little more love to Kyle XY, which became the most-watched original series on the network last year. According to The Hollywood Reporter the science-fiction program, which was given a 13-episode pickup last August, has been picked up for 10 more episodes. That's 23 episodes, folks. Pretty decent for a cable series.

Why the extension? According to Paul Lee, president over at ABC Family, it's due to the quality of the new episode; executives have been so delighted with the shows for season two that the order for new episodes was released. In addition, Lee states that Kyle XY has defined the network. I can believe that because before Kyle the network was known more for repeats of Step by Step than for original programming.

For those of you unfamiliar with Kyle XY, it chronicles the adventures of a mysterious teenager with superhuman powers (yes, another one of those) who has no memory or history of his past life. In the second season, which begins on June 11th, viewers will be introduced to some of Kyle's past and how he gained his abilities. The new order of episodes will air sometime early in 2008.
