When Jon Stewart announced before a studio full of deafening cheers and Stephen Colbert's deafening silence that Barack Obama would become the 44th President of the United States, the show seemed to be in an interesting pickle.

Could the show be just as funny as it had been under an administration that didn't blur the line between setups and punchlines? Could Stewart and friends find the funny in a president who inspires more love and fear in people than a teddy bear with a switchblade?

So let's grade The Daily Show's first 100 days under socialism President Obama report card.

Imagine, if you will, that President-Elect Barack Obama asks you to come work for his new administration. Yes, you can also imagine that you're a neurosurgeon who's also a TV personality on CNN and CBS. So, what would you say if Mr. Obama asked you to come work for the White House?

That's the question facing Dr. Sanjay Gupta, who was asked to be surgeon general, a fact that he confirmed today. The CNN health reporter was offered the job as America's top doc, a role that hasn't been filled by anyone with real influence since Dr. C. Everett Koop.

Dr. Gupta is reportedly contemplating the request, but if I were him, I'd say yes. Sanjay Gupta is someone who wants to make a difference. As CNN's chief medical correspondent, he's been all around the world reporting on health issues.

MSNBC has summarized how historic this is -- Keith said it best. "This is man on the moon historic." He's right. Nobody will ever forget where they were when the first African-American U.S. President was elected.

11:18 John McCain is conceding. He's a class act. A person sometimes shows more about himself in defeat then in victory. McCain recognizes that this is a great moment in history and he must acknowledge it gracefully. He's doing it well. I especially like his mentioning the passing of Obama's grandmother. He's taking the blame for the loss and calling for unity. I think he couldn't say it any more plainly or with courage. Call me crazy, but this sounds like the McCain of 2000. Very classy.

There's another Bill in Hillary Clinton's life now. Talk show pundit Bill O'Reilly, who interviewed Clinton on his Fox News show, The O'Reilly Factor this week. The interview covered a lot of territory, including the economy, high gas prices, illegal immigrants, the war on terror, and foreign policy.

All the presidential candidates have their strengths and weaknesses, but Clinton made a smart move towards unifying her platform by agreeing to the O'Reilly interview. Although they're on opposite ends of the spectrum politically, O'Reilly and Clinton showed that two diverse personalities can sit down together and have an intelligent debate about the issues without resorting to a screaming match.

Here is an unimpeachable truth: anyone who wants to be president probably shouldn't be president. If you spend $400,000,000 for a $400,000 a year job, you're either stupid or corrupt or (most likely) both. In an ideal world, a presidential hopeful accepts the nomination with reluctance, George Washington style.

It's with this in mind that I'd like to start a movement to draft the one man who I think can turn this country around. The one man who has the credibility and the credentials to unite a society fractured by war and recession. The one man who connects with young and old; gay and straight; really, really gay and butchy gay. That's right, I'd like to nominate Simon Cowell for president.
